Best

Perfect location and good food! I highly recommend when u want to get away.

Worst

Let me just say that this place gets points for its location and for the fact that it is a staple of old L.A. However, the food was absolutely atrocious. For a place that is widel...

Neptune's Net is a BIG disappointment 3/18/2011

After many years of driving by the Neptune's Net, I finally stopped there for lunch yesterday. I was looking forward to having some clam chowder. The server gave me a cup of green, creamy, stuff. When I asked her about it, she said they made it green for St. Patrick's Day. Now, I was not interested in eating this greenish goo. When I told her I would rather not order it after all, I was treated rather coldly and made to stand by the counter to get my money refunded while the rest of our order was ready. Also, I ordered a side of crab cake and a side of coleslaw. Instead I was charged for the Crab Cake Basket. After the ordeal with the green clam chowder, I was not about to start all over again about the incorrect order. Besides being overpriced, the greenish goo and the cold treatment, made for a very unpleasant meal. I will no longer be thinking to stop to check out Neptune's Net in the future. That won't be happening again. more

Always comeing back. 12/31/2008

Moved out of California now for some years, but still come back to visit family. And when I do, I HAVE to come here at least once (if not more) per visit. Can't beat the atsmosphere and great food, with the flavour of the ocean right next to you. Also being bias too, growing up close by in Simi Valley, this place (and the surounding coastline) will always be a fondest of memories for me, with more and more to come as life goes on. I highly recommend this place to anyone ,to at least experiance once, and decide on your own. Pros: AWESOME PLACE TO HANG FOR HOURS. Cons: Closes early. more

Jumbo Shrimp Tastes Like Lobster 12/8/2008

I travel,&this is my favorite seafood joint in the U.S.A. The steamed seafood is great-really fresh-& relatively reasonably priced($1xtra to upgrade to JUMBO shrimp-do it)Compared to other Malibu eateries lobster crab etc.here is a steal.Notice any bad food reviews center around the fried?this place may not have the best fish &chips(for that you go to Andrea's in Ventra),but clam strips(wide&meaty) and calamari(crunchy tenticles)are exceptional.. Now,who expects""service""from a walk up window? You people are Whinney Little Babies. The beer is in the cooler-help yo'self-(p.s. we like it that way)HOWEVER we DO NOT LIKE the PORT-O-LET so-called restroom. If flush toliets arent possible ,how about CLEANING the portable ones? They are so gross I can only suggest this place to my""adventurous"" friends. BUT THE VIEW....not just surfing PARASURFING,the best place to see stunts in SoCal,I know I,ve done the research.Costal access(free )beach parking can be hard to find so DON'T spoil your trip to the shore, pony up the small fee to park at Leo Carillo State Park.Explore the canyon&look for the elusive secluded coves.Maybe camp over nite?Let's at least stay for dinner too & watch this AWESOME SUNSET...Hey,grab me a beer ,wouldya? Pros: JUMBOshrimp best ""show""in town $2 beer Cons: your mom CANNOT USE THE BATHROOM HERE more

Tasty sourdough bread plus yummy frozen custard 10/27/2008

The shrimp, veggies, and clam chowder are always so fresh and filling. Quite a deal in this economy. Pros: Parking lot is free Cons: Flies more

Worth the drive 7/15/2008

This is no doubt some of the best seafood you will find in the area. Yes, you do have venture out of LA county, and yes, you will mix and mingle with a surly crew of bikers and soldiers on leave from Point Magoo, but it's all worth it. The freshest seafood you'll find anywhere (as you pick it out while it's still moving) and all of it prepared with a greasy spoon's touch for taste. Not to mention a great view and outdoor seating that's really hard to beat. There's a reason you see paparazzi shots of stars pulling up outside this place. Pros: You won't find better seafood with a cooler atmosphere Cons: No cons, unless you mind sharing a table with ex-Hell's Angels more

Awesome seafood 7/9/2008

I went there after a day at the beach, and I had a blast. We ordered calamari, fried shrimp, and fish tacos, and everything tasted really good. I wish I would've gotten the clam chowder. Someone at a booth nearby had it, and it looked delicious. I liked the casual, beachy vibe, and the service was quick. Pros: Fun place Cons: Super busy more

It's about the food 12/18/2007

If you go to places for the restrooms, and not the food... Then this isn't the place for you... more

Its a biker bar, not a French bistro 11/30/2007

I love how people complain about the service. Its a biker bar, what service did you expect? Nobody is going to greet you at the door, your waiter isn't going to pull out the chairs for you and wipe them down with his white apron, you're not going to get a wine list. The only thing one should expect from this place is cold beer and good food. And Neptune's delivers on both counts. The only bad thing is the crowds but even then I cant imagine Neptunes without the people. You got everything from out of town tourists to old school bikers, hot women, families with kids.... And pretty much everybody is friendly and just having a good time. Pros: People, food, location, classic Southern California Cons: sometimes hard to find place to sit more

Cool location, the food is a disappointment 7/3/2007

Let me just say that this place gets points for its location and for the fact that it is a staple of old L.A. However, the food was absolutely atrocious. For a place that is widely renowned for its seafood, I was really disappointed. My fish and chips was bland and the fish had a funny texture. It doesn't deserve all the hype but I gave it 2 stars because it is located in a really cool place. Pros: Interesting location Cons: Bad food, limited parking more

Unique atmosphere 3/31/2007

The combination of bikers, tourists, and surfers certainly isn't found just anywhere. The clam chowder was very good, although it did need a little pepper, and the fried shrimp and french fries were excellent. I enjoyed the crab cake, but wish I'd skipped the fried fish--dry and bland. Still, it's better than some of its competitors closer to Santa Monica, and it's a fine place to eat if you're driving out PCH toward Oxnard. more

Average Surf and Turf, Great View 12/24/2006

If you go to Neptune's Net, you're pretty much going for it's A+++ location across from a great surfing beach. It offers the typical surf and turf fare. However, for the most part, it tastes like they got it from the frozen food section at Costco and heated it up in the back room (except for the live lobsters). Overall, the prices are somewhat high for the food that you receive. However, the location makes up for it as it is closed to the best open beaches in Southern California. So, go there for the location and vibe, but prepare for average food. Pros: Relaxed, good location, close to the beach, great for Biker Sundays Cons: Value of what you pay for / get more

great fried seafood. 11/14/2006

great fried seafood! if you come on a sunday, expect at least a half an hour wait for you food. all the bikers meet up here on sundays, so it's ridiculously crowded. more

Great setting and good seafood 11/5/2006

Beautiful view of the ocean...and of biker dudes and chicks. Most people come for the fried seafood, which is great, but the steamed seafood is also delish and much healthier. If you don't want to drive all the way out here just for lunch, try combining it with a nearby hike. If you go up Yerba Buena road you'll find a great trail. It's 4-5 hours if you do the whole loop (and totally worth it, incredible views) but of course you can just go as far as you want and then backtrack. And then get the fried food at Neptune's Net - you've earned it! more

Neptune's Net is loved by Cool people everywhere! 10/7/2006

Neptune's Net is a world famous Surf Shack landmark. Emphasis on SHACK! THis place hasn't changed in 50 years and if you don't like it, then it is not for you. First of all, it is in the middle of no where -- so EVERYBODY drives an hour an half to get there. Why? Because it is what it is. Good food, good people and good atmosphere. Laidback is the key word to describe the customers - many of which have been coming for decades. I have seen my fair share of customers who come and think they are going to a 5 star restaurant. Dream on. The only people who write bad reviews about Neptune's are the same people who come into EVERY restaurant and complain because they have nothing better to do. Here's tip: Neptune's is a beach shack with amazing food and cheap drinks. What else can you ask for? Pros: Beer for under $2.00, steamed Maine lobster, Cool crowd Cons: Too crowded on weekends more

Bad food, bad service, high prices. 8/31/2006

This place is all hype. True, it has an amazing view and an interesting ambiance and concept. However, I'm not ever going to drive an hour and a half for overpriced, bad tasting food, and to top it all off, rude service! I know good seafood, and this is as far from it as I've ever had. You're much better off going to any of the more well-known chain varieties! The fried seafood was average to below average, the fresh seafood was downright nasty and took over half an hour to prepare, and the clam chowder was extremely watery. All of this for a much higher price than was merited by the quality of the food. This place is great to go and check out once, only to never return again! Pros: View, ambiance, being able to pick your own bottles of liquor straight from the fridge. Cons: Food, service, overpriced more

Good Food... Bad Service 8/24/2006

Food here is delicious, but they dont wait for anyone. Let me explain why, My husband and I drove for an hour and half to try this place and we got there 10mins before they close. The lady in the counter was rushing us to order and my husband jokingly said, ""we drove an hour and a half"" and before he could finish his sentence the lady said it doesn't matter we close at 8. I don't care how good the food is when the service is bad. To us the quality of your food is as bad as your service. Pros: Good View Cons: Bad Service and the second dining area(little park by the parking) is dirty. more

Best Place on Earth 7/26/2006

I love Neptune's Net -- weekdays especially. Weekends bring the crowds which is good if you like people watching. But, go on a monday or tuesday... So relaxing and mellow. Its my church. Pros: atmosphere, fresh seafood, surfers Cons: crowds on weekends more

Biker Bar n Fish n Chips 7/21/2006

The long drive (2hrs on a Sun) from Los Angeles to this legendary Malibu establishment on the overcrowded PCH made us hungry for some unique fresh seafood. And having seen it advertised on Food Network, maybe my expectations were a little high, but this breezy restaurant that was a bit like a liquor mart meets cheap roadside fast food place. Admitted, the atmosphere was uniquely Malibu, but the fight for the self seating on dirty tables made the $15 fish/calamari/chips combo a little disenchanting. I've had better deep fried seafood and it wasn't really worth the drive to sit next to a highway inhaling car fumes and Harley exhaust. ""Ocean View"" is a far fetch, but if polishing off six packs of Coors is your thing, then you're set. Pros: Beers in Fridge Cons: Crowded, Dirty, Highway View more

Average Seafood and Hungry Road Warriors! 7/21/2006

If you like rowdy crowds, hungry road warriors and average seafood - then this is the place for you! I have been coming here since I was a child in the late 70's. Almost 40 years later, nothing has changed. Long lines, bad service, dirty floors and expensive average seafood make this place a Malibu landmark. Truly a Southern California experience. Do not misunderstand my review. Yes, it sounds harsh, but at least it is truthful. No. This ain't Gladstone's. Yes. This is a nice place to visit. So, bring your family, your wallet and your thrill for adventure and enjoy at your own risk. Pros: Pacific Ocean View - Clean Ocean Air! Cons: Self-Seating - Viking Style Dining Experience more
