Editorial review from Citysearch 10/21/2013

To those who poo-poo Miss Jeanne's School of Dance and the teachers who so once adjusted many sickled feet and many unturned toes, I suggest you go back and see what the individuals were going through at the time of your nasty comments! Not only was Miss Jeanne and Miss Barbara ill at the time of your nasty, tasteless tirade, but are you so aware of their untimely deaths within 6 months of each other? And to think that Miss Jeanne survived her granddaughter's murder and kept the studio going, and the mother, Miss Barbara, kept up a front as to what was going on in her personal life! I suggest before you make comments, you best do some research to back up your information. Miss Jeanne's was and is an excellent school of dance. As a former Sr. dancer, and a current teacher, yes - we had our struggles, however we grew through those pains and came out dignified, poised and ready to take on the world! Much more so than those who go to studios that throw up plaques which say, ""oh, I took dance for 5 years, so I have some information on becoming a dance teacher!"" I would think twice before entering my child into some of the studios in the Lehigh Valley. Do your research, observe, ask questions, be patient, because those who are uneducated remain that way. more

Incredible Experiences 6/25/2011

Dancing at Miss Jeanne's was one of the best experiences of my life. I started at the age of 3 and continued until I graduated at 18. While there were always ups and downs (as there is with life), there were way more ups than downs. Miss Barbara, as well as the other teachers, taught me not only about the art of dance, but about life as well. Miss B always told us that our dance friends were our best friends. That is a fact that remains true today. Even with busy lives, we all still find time to try and get together. Miss B also taught us about love. The love of dance and the love for each other. She loved every single one of us in her own way. Did she push us? Yes. Did she critique us? Yes. Did she tell it like it was? Yes. Were we all better for it in the long run when we took that stage? Absolutely. I always felt comfortable taking the stage at the end of the year. I knew our recitals topped every other dance studio in the valley. I also knew that we were dancing and truly performing at our best. This studio is somewhere to send your daughter (or son) to truly become a well rounded person. The studio will teach them dance, love, commitment, and how to build solid friendships. Miss Jeanne's is about dancing and finding a family. more

Best by Far 6/24/2011

As a former student who currently has their child enrolled at this studio, I must say these reviews are completely incorrect. Miss B was always a wonderful and loving teacher. Her discipline was always strict and always enforced. She was stern with a gentle hand. Never would she yell at a young child, she was probably the most patient person when dealing with screaming and crying children who wanted nothing but their mothers. Everyone will always have their own complaints, but this is a fabulous studio that has taught me and is currently teaching my daughter about discipline, poise, and respect for all of those around you. Having brought friends whose children dance elsewhere to the shows, they have had nothing but positive feedback on the talent and perfection that the studio exudes. Encouragement and fairness is what this studio stands for. And as stated before, having danced there myself and currently enrolling my daughter has been nothing but beneficial in our lives. I am thankful for everything that I have learned at the studio and for what my daughter is presently learning. And I know Miss B's legacy will live on through the wonderful faculty and staff that is there now. If you are looking for your child to learn and grow, Miss Jeanne's School of Dance Arts is the BEST in the valley. more

Do NOT Subject Your Children To This 5/30/2010

I would not recommend this studio to anyone. Please consider sending your child elsewhere. Before signing my daughter up, I read reviews and got the impression that the studio was strict, but fair and offered excellent instruction. I did not find that at all. While I did find the recital to be well run, that was my only pleasant surprise. The owner of the studio is not only strict...she is nothing short of emotionally abusive and rude to both parents and students. I was amazed at the number of parents who tolerated her yelling, criticizing and belittling both of students and parents. I watched as parents and children visibly cringed whenever she walked into the room...it was like watching a room full of battered women. I watched as she yelled at a little 4 year old who was modeling a costume so parents could see how to alter it for recital. The little girl was very quietly and sweetly modeling it for us and she kept yelling at her that her chin wasn't high enough and she wasn't smiling enough (and I emphasize here that she was yelling sternly, not politely encouraging). I am a big fan of discipline but Miss Barbara is not giving discipline, she is giving abuse. I also noticed that when she makes mistakes she will not take responsibility for them. We all make mistakes...but what does it teach our children when we do not take responsibility? I will not tolerate this type of modeling for my child...I will send her someplace that teaches her to treat people with kindness and respect and that she is deserving of the same in return. Pros: Nice Recital Cons: Abusive Studio Owner more

Miss Jeanne's School of Pain 5/29/2008

Does anyone have any idea if Miss Barbara is bipolar? I have never met a woman who appears so miserable and has such poor customer service skills. You would think she is the only dance school in the Lehigh Valley - which hasn't been the case for nearly 15 years. Not too mention, I have never seen 50 girls who attend dance for years execute so poorly when they leap. Toes are not pointed, knees are bent. We won't even get into the 10-12 year old ballet students that still sickle their feet. What a disgrace! She is certainly one of the best Marketers I have ever seen or she is playing on the general dance ignorance of her customer base - probably both! She should get five stars for Marketing, no stars for customer service, 1 star for not sinking the business her mother created. Pros: She doesn't beat the children physically.
