Great place for a group!! 9/18/2009

We were a party of 8 for my friends birthday. Luckily we made a reservation and were seated promptly. We ordered a bunch of different apps for the table. The crabcakes and zuchinni cakes were outstanding. The homemade bread served with olives is a great surprise. Its nice to see that this place makes their own bread. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. I had the lamb which was moist and flavorful. My girlfriend ordered the stuffed tilapia with crabmeat which was just perfect! The fish was flaky and the sauce had the perfect touch of lemony flavor. A great experience!!! They even let us bring our own cake and sang happy birthday to our friend. Overall, everything was great; food, service, ambiance and the complimentary after dinner drink topped it all off for me. 5 stars...Bravo! Pros: Great food Cons: Parking more

GREAT PLACE FOR GREEK FOOD 6/23/2009

I was there last week with some friends and we had an amazing time. The food was awesome.. it reminded me of my trip to Greece. The lamb and their seafood is a must try!!! The wait staff was very helpful with recommendations, and they were also very entertaining. I highly recommend this restaurant for authentic greek food and I'm definetly going there again =) Pros: food is super fresh and made on the premises more

I was so dissapointed.. 2/10/2009

The food was awful, the service ok... but not great.. we were the only ones in there and I guess that should have tipped me off... it was 200.00 very badly spent.... Cons: lousy food, so so service, dirty windows... more

The Place to Be is Upstairs 2/10/2009

Took a nice lady there on a first date and we had a fantastic time. The music was authentic Greek tunes, the food was great and we danced the night away. The place to be is upstairs. Only my second time there but it looks like they have regulars upstairs that come for the dancing. Had a great time. Pros: Lively atmosphere upstairs, dancing, live music Cons: It's a little loud, wouldn't say it's a con but this is not the place for a quiet romantic evening more

Perfect Dishes 10/20/2008

My former boss's boss took me here for a celebratory lunch after my successful golf tournament fund-raising event. The only thing missing from a totally spectacular lunch was a nice glass of wine but we didn't drink much wine in the non-profit world... so we stuck with yummy iced tea!\r \r Anyways, I especially loved the interior of this restaurant. It was so cozy and inviting! I'm glad we had a reservation because it was VERY busy at lunch time. \r \r Our lunch was delicious! Everything was perfect starting with the bread. I don't know much about Greek food but was tempted by just about everything on the menu! I don't think you can go wrong with the super fresh veggies and perfect dishes!\r Pros: food, service more

really good baklava 2/19/2008

I ate at this restaurant last Friday. In my opinion it was pretty good. There were so many appetizers to choose from. I couldn't decide between the Ouzo Shrimp and the Octopus, so I had both. They were so yummy. The Octopus was lemony with vinegar and the Ouzo shrimp was more on the sweet side. The leftover sauce went really well with all the bread I had. For the main course I had black pasta with shrimp and asparagus in a tomato sauce. I'm a huge fan of black pasta and you don't really find that in many restaurants around here so I was glad to have some. Along with all my food I had their Sangria. It was slamming. It was a little on the strong side but I can't complain there. To top things off they gave us complimentary Baklava. I LOVE Baklava. It was so good if I had any space left in my belly I would have ordered some more. If you are in the mood for Greek food this is a pretty good restaurant to try out. more

A Great Gourmet Greek Dining Experience 2/5/2008

We were extremely satisfied with our meal at Mezzo. The restaurant is\r lovely. The wait staff were remarkably friendly, and stand-out in my mind as\r one of the nicest I have ever encountered. The food was very good,\r particularly the octopus appetizer and Ek Mek dessert. We both agreed that\r we would return to Mezzo, and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends. Pros: Delicious Food more

Amazing Authentic Greek Restaurant! 9/19/2007

I absolutely love Mezzo Mezzo! It is truly an authentic restaurant--Greek staff & amazing food. The spanakopita (spinach pie) is really delicious, as is the salmon. I took the advice of the waiter to try the crab cakes (a Mezzo specialty) and I had to stop myself from eating all of them. My boyfriend & I sat outside, and we both agreed there is a really romantic ambience at night. This is not your ordinary Greek restaurant. They have weekly jazz, salsa, and acoustic entertainment upstairs in their gorgeous lounge, open 'til 1 or 2 AM. I have already dined there 3 times in the past month (once on a date, once for business, and once by myself!)-- I'm definitely a regular there! If you want delicious authentic food & cultural entertainment, this is a great place to go. Perfect for so many different occasions! Pros: ambience, service, authenticity more

Not so much... 8/1/2007

I use to love Mezzo when I first moved into the neighborhood and didn't know any better, but once I experienced other restaurants I knew this place wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Out door seating is cool, but the food is not great and it is a little pricey considering what your paying for. Not a favorite but good if you didn't make reservations and there is a line everywhere else. Pros: out door seating Cons: everything else more

great food, great people, and great atmosphere 7/12/2007

SInce it was such a beautiful night last Saturday we were thinking where to go for dinner. We decided on Mezzo Mezzo's so we may sit out side and stuff ourselves with the awesome stuffed mushrooms and whatever entree we chose. We requested a table out side (so we can smoke) and our favorite server Michael. However he works the front, and they do not allow smokeing at the front tables. The hostess, Valentina, told us ""not a problem"" and seated us where we could smoke and said he would be our server. Even after not being there for about a month, Michael remembered both our drink choices and promtly brought them to us. As always we were given the specials of the day, and I swear he must get there 4 hours before his shift to take notes from the chef so that you can taste everything he described. After our meal, he again surprises me by asking about my parents who live out of town and he had only met once on a prior visit. So I called them, and gave him the phone, which he greatfully took and had a nice conversation. So not to bore anyone with this long winded blab, I highly recomend both of the seafood pasta dishes, the stuffed mushrooms, crab cakes, octopuss, the T-bone, and last but not least..... if you can get him, Michael. Pros: portions fit the price more

A DEFINATE Keeper! 5/8/2007

I found this restaurant on CitySearch and decided to go last night for dinner. Needless to say...it was outstanding. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the wait staff was extremely accommodating. After reading the reviews, I asked about the burger. Since that is a lunch Item, it was not on the dinner menu. However, the waiter talked to the kitchen and had them make one for me. Let's just say that it lived up to the billing and was fantastic. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Souvlaki with roasted potatoes...it was great as well and I highly recommend the potatoes...they were surprisingly good. Bottom-line...I look to return to Mezzo Mezzo! Pros: Food, wait staff, atmosphere, etc... Cons: It is in Astoria and I live in Manhattan...I wish that it was closer! more

Tasty food and friendly service 1/10/2007

I visited Mezzo Mezzo for lunch: I ordered a ""Greek burger"" which was deliciously juicy and well-spiced with Mediterranean herbs (ketchup would have been heretic on it). Then I took advantage of the ""Chill in Queens"" Jan-Feb 2007 MetroCard offer: I showed my MetroCard to get a free dessert, a ""galaktoboureko"": pastry dough ""pie"" filled with a dense milk custard, with syrup (or honey) poured over it, served warm. Music was playing in the background and I look forward to returning for Friday night music or the Saturday belly dancer. Pros: Close to public transportation (N W subway, Q19 bus) more

Great Service, and Cozy setting 9/18/2006

I found this restaurant on city search. A group of my girlfriends and I went to celebrate a birthday. This was the best choice. Service was great. The appitezers and salads are filling. I couldn't finish my main course. I recommend the swordfish, it was grilled to perfection. Also, it was reasonable. Pros: Ambiance, reasonable price more

WOW!!! 8/28/2005

Amazing appetizers, amazing seafood, amazing salad, amazing drinks...Didi I mention amazing??? Mezzo Mezzo is a beautiful, charismatic and welcoming restaurant...The food is wonderful as is the waitstaff, who are both friendly and knowledgeable...A wonderful experience from start to finish...Oh, they also have a lounge upstairs too, which is always fun...Definitely highly recommend!!! Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Trendy more

Fabulous! 7/5/2005

I've been here numerous times and have never been disappointed. I've always had good service, and the food is wonderful! You might have to wait for your bill, but just get your server and tell them you are ready for it....its nice to sit at a nice place and not feel rushed to leave after the meal is finished. FYI: They do have a kids menu with chicken strips and burgers, just ask. Pros: Good food, Reasonable prices more

Never Again 4/9/2005

We've stopped at this local eatery a number of times, for convenience and great outdoor seating. Each time we hope it won't be as bad as the last. The service is horrendous. It's unfortunate because the food is generally pretty good, although the waitstaff did try to convince us once that the flan they gave us was really creme brulee. Today was the last day we will ever stop there. We waited 25 minutes for 1 coffee and a mimosa, they told us the bartender was making it ""from scratch"". We ordered food which was meant to be hot but didn't show up that way and then waited another 20 minutes for the check before searching for it ourselves. Always a disappointing and frustrating experience. Pros: Location, Outdoor seating Cons: Awful service more
