I lived here my sophomore year and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely move back if the age range wasn't so small (most of the girls are 19-20 and the guys are new RMs for the most part, 21-22).- - - - Rent: I lived in a 6 girl apartment and I think for what I got it was overpriced. The furniture was standardized in every apartment and not anything great, but it was functional. However, there are some apartments, such as in Marshall, where you get a much nicer apartment...and pay for it too. The deposit you put down when you signed the contract is very rarely returned to you in the proper amount. My roommate only got $29 back from her $150 deposit. On the plus side, you don't have to buy a year contract.- - - - Parking: Underground spaces are tighter than anywhere I've ever seen, but there are plenty of spaces (uncovered and underground) for all the residents. Two problems I had: The price for an underground parking space is catastrophic! $80! And they're on a first-come-first-served basis so when the underground spaces run out you only have the option of the above ground spaces which aren't assigned. I had roommates who didn't pay for either one and were able to find street parking within a block around liberty. Parking enforcement is very quick and they boot people without a sticker almost immediately after they park. Visitors have to park on the street which is a pain. The second problem I saw was the chance of getting your car broken into in the underground lot. Liberty needs some security cameras or something down there. However, the only cars that got broken into were the really expensive cars or the ones who left their electronics in plain sight (even the cords can draw the attention of a thief!). Be smart and you'll be fine.- - - - Ward: If you're looking for somewhere spiritually uplifting Liberty Square is great! My ward was very good, and I loved the bishopric. All of the ward activities were well attended and we had almost no inactives in our boundaries. It was nice to have the whole ward right within liberty square. Even a year later many of the people in my ward still plan parties and sit together at football games. We were a very close ward.- - - - Social: THIS is what you pay so much for. Because there are so many people tightly packed into a complete city block this is the most social area I've lived in so far.- - - - Management: It was kind of a hit and miss. Not always the most cooperative. Our ward planned an activity in the clubhouse volleyball court and scheduled it in advance, but the day of the management said they had no record of the scheduling and would not accommodate us. They wouldn't take the volleyball equipment out of the closet and set it up for us or let us set it up ourselves...as our whole ward and bishopric are standing there. I had some trouble with a roommate vandalizing and stealing my things and the woman who managed the office gave me a few options and offered to help me in any way she could. I appreciated her help. But when it came to my roommate stealing and tossing out my mail, the office made me pay to have the locks changed if I wanted my mail back. - - - - Amenities: The pool and hot tub were closed for most of the time I lived there, so it's upsetting I had to pay for it anyway. No W/D in the apartments, but there's a place to do your laundry in the center of the complex. It can get pretty expensive though because a lot of the machines don't work as well as they should. The wireless internet used to go down often, but that improved greatly halfway through my contract there. You have to bring your own TV and DVD player, though the apartments come with an entertainment center.- - - - Despite all of my experiences there, I think most of my problem with living here was my terror of a roommate, which wasn't Liberty Square's fault, though she should have been evicted. I would live there again because of how social and uplifting it is. In the end, it does get expensive, however.
