Fondue is a fun night out for us but it is expensive. The food is good however and we enjoy the atmosphere. Service was good but could have been better. more

Not very understanding towards the military 2/12/2010

My husband is deployed to Iraq and he emailed them twice to get a gift certificate for me for V Day. This is one of my fav restaurants and knew I would enjoy this. They never emailed him back then finally did after a third and final email stating this will be our last time visiting this establishment. The email (from the manager) states, what exactly is it your looking for. DUH, so we may pay over the phone with a credit card since he cannot go in there himself and get it. His parents went in there for him and did get a GC, but I will never eat at this place again. Poor Customer service Cons: Poor Customer Service more

Overpriced & Tacky 6/2/2009

Ugh... where to begin. First off, I have had better fondue out of a plastic bag from Trader Joe's at a fraction of the price. This place is not only over priced, but pretentious for no reason. The wine list is totally predictable and over priced as well (shocker, I know.). The owner (who happened to be there the night we went) who has the air of being pompous and narcissistic, thinks this overpriced, tacky hole is God's gift to the epicurean community. The whole vibe was overly-pretentious for no reason what so ever. No one who worked here was friendly to us as we entered the restaurant. The attitude was just as unnecessary as the over priced fondue, not to mention I felt sick for an entire day after eating at this establishment. There are so many other great friendly reasonably priced restaurants in the bay area. Avoid this place like swine flu. Pros: Non Cons: Pretty Much Everything about this place more

Hype at a price 1/20/2009

Hype is what they are serving and boy at a price. It starts at the parking lot ($6), then $9 for a cocktail (which you are going to need because the wait in between to see your waiter and bus boy are long ones). The $30 cheese fondue, $10 salad, $50 meat choices, $20 dessert. $175.00 with tip. We couldn't help but think this meal must cost them no more than $20 granted someone should be paying for the stove and lucite chairs we were sitting in and then there is all that slicing.\r \r I told the waiter to express to the chef (?) ( food cutter or meat marinader) who ever is back there that the teriaki meat was beyond salty. Word did get to someone that came to the table to confirm it was salty. No concession was made only an apologize and so all I could do was to drink as much water as I could and carry on.\r \r The most disturbing part of the meal other than the too bright overhead lights on the front patio was the fact that our finished dishes sat for at least twenty minutes before they were cleared. When they were finally cleared the technique is to stack the plates with the food on them in front of you. Flatware and food still on them and some sauce dishes on the very top to finish it off. Does anyone use a tray here? I have never eaten in an army barracks but my guess is they use this same technique of clearing dishes off the table. We were not the only ones...stacks started to appear at all the tables. For what we were paying we did not need to see this.\r \r As we left I couldn't help but notice the cocktail glasses from the beginning of the meal were still there still full of ice. Hype at a price.\r \r \r \r I for one am not buying it....again. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food and Service more

Made my b'day extra special! 9/26/2008

We went to La Fondue for my birthday and to have a quiet romantic night together. It was absolutely fabulous. Started on the four course meal, with huge yummy salad. I had to stop myself from eating it all...i would have never been able to finish the rest of the meal that was coming by. The cheese fondue was next and since I was pregnant, they didn't use the usual champagne with cheese, but just broth. It was really tasty. Then the grilled meat plate n' finally the sumptuous dessert.- chocolate fondue...it just made my day totally extra special. The server was great and her suggestions really worked well for us. We loved it and highly recommend it to everyone who wants to have a romantic dinner with the special someone! Pros: The fondue dishes Cons: Expensive more

Learn to cook for a price 9/16/2008

You have got to be kidding! You pay this much and cook your own food. Only in America, only in San Jose area can this restaurant survive. Maybe for desert I'll have samores and we'll tell stories around the campfire. Never again. What a rip off. I would, however, like to invest in the restaurant. No chef required. No professional wait staff required. Make it look sort of like Marakesh and serve Swiss fondue. What a racket. I wish I had thought of it! I'm sure the profit margin puts McDonalds to shame. Owner is laughing all the way to the bank and patrons think they are being sophisicated. Plenty of turkeys for the plucking in Silcon valley. Pros: sleepy Saratoga Cons: sleepy Saratoga more

From the moment i walked in the front door I knew i was in thew right pla. La fondue oooooozes deliciousness. Appetizer was a 10, salad a 10, dinner a 9 and dessert a 10.5. Service was unobtrusive and attending. I felt like i was in Paris the entire night. Loved it, loved it, loved it........ Pros: atmosphere, cheese, chocolate. Cons: too hard to get in. more

CHEESY atmosphere and service to forget 8/14/2008

I'd rather be at Red Lobster. That was the thought swirling around in my head as I tried to enjoy the ambience and my friends. The food can maybe pass as okay at best. I was in a group of eight being waited by half a server. I can't remember what the salad was called but it resembled something like a Pazookie dessert from \r BJ's. There was a hint of lettuce underneath big scoops of carrots, cheese, and younameit. Unfortunately I didn't care for the salad as much as I do the dessert from BJ's and I truly love eating my vegetables. Steak and chicken was smothered in a way too salty teriyaki sauce...boring. The food overall out shined the waiter if you can believe it. This guy must have decided that waiting tables wasn't his thing during our meal because he just wasn't very good at all. When you experience true fine dining, you expect tables to be cleared between courses and concerns like ""my food is hardly edible"" to be met with at least a hint of concern. This sort of behavior would have gotten me fired from the fine dining restaurant I used to work at years ago. I guess I shouldn't be asking so much after spending a measly five large on dinner and maybe tips are not as important as they used to be. Is there an all you can eat king crab night at Red Lobster? more

great menu and service 7/27/2008

La Fondue offers one of the best dining in the bay area. If you are a real food lover and not just looking for hyped up cafeteria food, you will love this place. The Foie Gras appetizer is out of this world and changes seasonally. The lamb is the best I have ever had with its divine sauce. The new beautiful bar gives one the opportunity to dine in a less formal setting within the restaurant where one can sample the lovely appetizers. more

Disappointed 4/4/2008

This was not a good place to treat my employees for our Christmas dinner. There were six of us and it just wasn't the right setting for a group that size. I think I might have enjoyed it if I'd been there with just one other person. It was quite expensive for what it was. I was expecting the atmosphere to be more elegent. I thought it was a bit tacky and over-priced. Ordering for a party of six seemed to require a PhD. We really aren't under-educated dummies, honest. My recommendation would be to go there with no more than four. The food was good but over priced. Pros: Good food Cons: Over-priced more

Spendy and worth the splurge 2/16/2008

I have been to La Fondue on many occasions. Last week was the first time I had stepped foot into their new location - which I really enjoyed. It is much brighter than their previous spot. Everything here from the salad to dessert is wonderful. This is a great place when you want to eat and enjoy great company and conversation over a long dinner. I will say, this is a lot of food but, you don't have to eat it all! Pace yourself for dessert. My favorite part is the cheese! La Fondue offers various cooking methods for your meats and definitely a wide variety to choose from. If you have not been, try it out. There is plenty of parking behind the restaurant or you can opt for valet! more

My All-Time Favorite Restaurant 9/27/2007

When I want to go somewhere for a really special occasion (anniversary, best friend visiting from out of town), it has to be La Fondue. I absolutely love this place. Plan to spend quite a bit of time and quite a bit of money, but more than worth it. Definitely make reservations! A month in advance if you want a specific date and time, even longer for Valentine's Day. The ambience is lovely and very romantic, with low lighting and secluded tables with a lot of privacy. Every single course is delicious, from the salad (choose your favorite) to the cheese fondue with fruit and bread (again choose your favorite), to the main course, to the absolutely to-die-for chocolate fondue dessert. Unlike some other people, I dislike the grilling method of cooking. It's boring! The whole point of eating at a ""fondue"" restaurant is to eat fondue-style, and this way everyone gets to cook their own food and eat at their own pace, which is a lot of fun. Try the less well-known meats, they're terrific, and haven't you always wanted to say you've eaten ostrich and bison? I wouldn't recommend La Fondue for young kids (who may not want to spend 2+ hours eating dinner), but my 10- and 13-year-olds love the place. You can also make reservations for dessert only, which I wish I could do every night. A big vat of chocolate of your choice (milk, dark, white) with the option of a liquor of your choice as well, along with a huge plate full of cookies, marshmallows, fruit, cut-up candy bars, you name it -- if it goes with chocolate, they have it. Plus they'll ask you which were your favorites and bring you more. You'll walk out of this restaurant a bit poorer, a lot fuller, and with a big smile on your face. Pros: Ambience, Privacy, Service, Selection, DESSERT!! Cons: Parking more

Best Fondue in town!! 3/23/2007

I first made a reservation two weeks before the actual day I chose to go with my husband and the girl (Katie) I spoke to was a bit unprofessional when she handled my reservation by phone. She sounded like she was goofing off with another female co-worker and did apologize for her behavior, but kept being unprofessional. I later confirmed my reservations for 2 with another employee by the name Ali (very professional). Having dinner at ""La Fondue,"" has been my very first experience although my husband ate here twice before with business related. The atmosphere was very professional, friendly and the place was clean. I loved the dark lighting with candles lit on each table and thought it was very romantic. I liked it how all the tables were apart from one another and that each table were able to have their ""privacy."" Our waitress was very friendly and outgoing that she explained to my husband and I how everything worked. She even suggested what kind of wine we should have or rather we had any questions for her to answer for us. The salad, the cheese fondue, the meat and as well as the chocolate fondue was very delicious I'm sure my husband and I will definately come back here to enjoy another meal with his parents who don't live in the Bay Area in near future. I definately recommend ""La Fondue"" for everyone and should try it at least once. La Fondue accepts Reservations for up to 1 month and is very important to have one. more

Fantastic! 11/21/2006

This place is terrific! The food is really outstanding and if you've never tried fondue then this is the place to go for your first attempt. You can order individual items off the menu but I prefer to go with the ""Fondue Feast"". It's a LOT of food but since this is a once every 3 or 4 month place (mostly due to price and the time it takes). They start you with a very good salad and then you move to the cheese fondue. They have a great selection to choose from and they make it at your table, telling you all the ingredients that go into it. After that you move to the ""main course"". In the ""Feast"" you choose 6 different meats ranging from chicken to shrimp to buffalo and elk. I would HIGHLY recommend that you choose the grilling method of cooking. We've tried the more traditional style fondues for the meat and you really just end up boiling the meat - the grilling adds much more flavor (although it can be a little smokey). After that you're on to the chocolate. It is delicious and they give you a great assortment of goodies (rice crispy treats, apples, bananas, marshmallows, snickers, etc) to dip. You really can't go wrong here. Don't forget that Mondays and Tuesdays are BYOB (bring your own bottle) nights - bring a bottle of wine (or two) and there's no corking fee!\r \r The atmosphere is eclectic and very nice. It's a great place to go for a romantic dinner or to hang out with a couple of friends (if there's more than 3 of you ask for a 2 burner table). The service is consistently great to excellent. The servers tend to tag-team the tables so you usually don't have to sit too long between refills, etc. The pace is quite a bit slower than most restaurants so go when you have the time to enjoy the meal. I wouldn't recommend this place for younger kids (maybe under 8 or 9 years old) since the meal takes awhile and you have a hot burner on your table. Parking is usually OK - better on weeknights than weekends. more

Excellent food, great ambience! 10/9/2006

We loved our entire experience! Food quality was excellent, selections were impressive, wait staff was good, host was a little short and acted snooty, but overall, a great evening! Worth every penny! Try the exotic meats, ostrich, venison etc...an enriching experience! Pros: Excellent food, great variety, worth a try Cons: host/hostess very snooty, even on the phone while making reservations more

Fun place to dine, the place to be if you're a chocolate lover! 8/23/2006

I've heard of this place for years but never tried it as the idea of cooking my own food doesnt sound too appetizing. It turned out to be a great experience. There's not too many restaurants in the Bay Area that have as many varieties of wild game such as boar, buffalo, ostrich and vension on the menu. The wine list and salads could use improvement but most go there for the main course and chocolate fondue (yum!) anyway. I'm not a cheese lover, so I found the cheese fondue a little wierd. I dont know if I'll be back, but am glad I checked it out. Its a great date/birthday place! Pros: Great date/birthday place, great place for wild game Cons: Poor salad, could use more lighting more

Fabulous chocolate! 8/11/2006

Great atmosphere, the food ws wonderful and the chocolate was absolutely delicious! Our server was very nice although a little forgetful on one occasion. Overall a great experience and a wonderful night out. Pros: Great food, nice ambience more
