UnFriendly Staff Old interior, Worst Gym I ever set foot in! 12/2/2009

I started off my first month at Kirkwood Fitness having recently moved to the area and needing a new gym. I had heard from a guy at work that that is a good gym. He was wrong, the staff seemed as if their time was more valuable then to respond to questions. There seemed to be a click of people that they were helping/chatting with rather then being able to respond to a simple equipment location question I had. I was there for more then an hour waiting for a treadmill to open up. There was a small group of body builders and one staff member working out/talking at the free weight area. I felt like the new kid in school walking into that part of the playground where the kids hung out who's parents didn't show them enough attention. They were rude and made you feel like you didn't belong and shouldn't be using up oxygen in 'their weight area'. So if you want to go to a gym full of tools, with unfriendly staff, old interior, long waits for equipment, this is THE ONE for you! Pros: Easy to get to Cons: Old interior, Snobby staff, Long waits, not worth the money more

Dated facilities, rude staff 11/14/2009

I'm looking for decent gyms in the area with swimming facilities, so I tried to call this fitness ""club"" to see if they had an indoor pool. I spoke with the receptionist (who was curt and unfriendly) for all of two seconds before she transferred me to their membership sales guy who wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise before pitching how wonderful the facilities are and how inexpensive a year-long membership is. After prying myself out of that phone call, I figured I should just go and check the place out for myself - maybe the sleazy used-car-sales guy was a fluke. Boy was I wrong. I got a trial pass from their website to try the place out, and was given a hard time about using it as soon as I walked through the door. They immediately tried to sell me a year membership again - harder than before. Understandably they don't want people just waltzing in with a free pass for a day to use the place, but they barely let me see the facility before pitching me on a year-long membership. When I finally convinced them to let me see the building, I could see why they tried to sell me before I made use of the trial pass. The building looks like it hasn't been updated since the late '60s. There seemed to be one or two TVs in the entire building, and one of them is located as soon as you enter in front of these reclining bike cardio machines you usually see little old ladies using. And the TV has CNBC on. I know that's what revs my engine and gets me in a cardio mood. The free-weight area was severely lacking, and the layout was not very user-friendly, so I didn't even bother wasting time on them. The resistance machines they had were okay, but again there were few. The pool is a joke. It has two lanes - one for swimming and one for walking. Yes, two lanes. And one is taken up by grannies who need to walk in water to get their exercise. I won't even mention the cardio portion since the other reviewers seemed to take care of that pretty well. In short, stay away from this place unless you like a rushed workout on subpar equipment, eye strain from horrendously outdated interiors, and unhelpful staff who just want to get you out the door so they can make their next sale. Cons: Old facilities, staff not helpful, time limits on everything more

would not recommend at all 2/2/2007

The ""managers"" there did not care about the members, they only cared about the money. I heard from someone that they got a fungus from the hot tub. The layout is not very catering to weight lifters. The cardio area has no Tv's. There is a lack of machines and the time restraint onthe machines is horrible. If you plan on going there, make sure you get a month to month membership just incase you want to leave promptly, but even then they will still take your money. Not helpful and didn't care. Pros: nothing worth talking about Cons: plenty worth talking about, equipment was older, time limits on machines, staff was rude more

not very welcoming to new members 2/2/2007

The facility layout was poor. Not enough treadmills and no TV's to watch while running. The cadio equipment seemed like it was never available and when you did get a machine they were very strict on the 20min rule. Hard to get a good cardio workout in. Management wasn't very friendly/welcoming. Make sure to sign up for a monthly membership....so you can leave, I did and i'm glad because I found a much better gym. Pros: racquetball courts Cons: all other fitness equipment and management more
