Run! Absolutely Horrible and Has A Strange 30's Vibe! 12/29/2011

I went there for an anniversary party, and ordered one of their rib eye dinners. When my steak came back, it was very fatty and difficult to chew. The person next to me ordered the same dinner, but his dinner came back looking ok. The only difference between us was he knew almost everyone there, and I knew no one. I would not go to this place again, because they only appear to give their cronies an all right cut of meat and the rest of us crap. Also, there is also a very strange 30's era vibe here. more

Not Good Food 4/11/2011

This place has really gone down hill. I think the founder would be applauded how this restaurants food and quality is terrible....The steaks are sub standard the salads are wilted escargot ? eh...Sorry just don't have anything good to say about this place. Maybe they should find a real Chef cuz this place needs it.... more

Must be doing something right!!!! 3/24/2011

We eat at Kiernans every couple of weeks. Last weekend I ate the filet. was cooked perfect and tasted great. My wife had the yellow fin tuna, she said it was one of the best meals she has had! I dont like fish, but this tuna looked like a steak. I wish I did like fish because it looked awesome. Love the escargot, the best I ever had! Kiernans has been in Dearborn for over 40 years. Must be doing something right!! more

Great Food, Ambiance, Drinks... 1/15/2011

If you're looking for a place that's warm, inviting, and a little bit old-school (dimmed lights, warm wood paneling, high-backed booths) Kiernan's Steak House is where you want to be. I've been going to Kiernan's for over 30 years - probably 5 - 6 times per year for lunch or dinner - I prefer the ""bar side"" which is the original part of this restaurant - really great now that it's non-smoking. This is dining the way it used to be - great drinks, great steaks, prime rib, seafood - I've never had a bad meal in Kiernan's & I've always found the waitstaff to be attentive. I've gone there with family, friends, and clients - they've all seemed to like it as well, and many have returned on their own after discovering it. Last year, I was in NYC and had dinner at ""The Palm"" - a famous chain of upscale steakhouses - the next week I was back in town & took a client to Kiernan's for dinner...the filet mignon I had at Kiernan's was better than the highly regarded Palm - and much more reasonably priced! If you're looking for a fab new style restaurant with flashy cuisine & halogen lights - that's not Kiernan's...if you're looking for a warm & inviting atmosphere, great food & drinks, well priced for what you get - then try Kiernan's Steak House! more

Not that great 12/22/2010

The food isn't that great (it has declined significantly over the years), it is very over-priced for what you get, and the service is spotty at best. We used to go there frequently, but now I would rather not waste my money. Unfortunately, I see this as another Dearborn restaurant that will close in the near future. more

Great Food, Rude Service 10/5/2010

I was in a party of four on a business trip, looking for a good steak restaurant during our visit to the Detroit metro area. We were very pleased with the greeting, the Cheer's-like atmosphere, and the food was fantastic. As for me, the ribeye I ordered was the best ribeye I've had anywhere. BUT...\r \r Our waitress was okay until we got our food. She came around maybe once in 30 minutes. Fortunately, three of us did not need more drink, and one of us had to flag her down to get another refill. One of the young men who was busting tables was far more helpful and friendly than this waitress was. He should have been promoted to head waiter. Anyway, when it was time to get our checks and pay, our waitress had everyone on one check. For business purposes, this was not a good option, so we all kindly asked her to give us each separate checks. Then, she blew a fuse and got really rude with us and gave us a hard time about it. She should have asked us if we wanted separate checks in the first place. As a reaction, we tipped very little or none at all to get our message across. When I reviewed my credit card statement, she had added her own tip, even though I had crossed out in ink on the check where the tip was to be added! This is poor, poor business any way you slice it. No one authorized her or anyone else to do something like this. If you really like to eat at Kiernan's, check your statements regularly or use cash. As for me, I will not go back to any place that does business like this. more

Very disappointed 10/27/2009

Four of us. Our night out. Had our drinks. And we waited and waited and waited for our entrees. Only to be told that one of our dishes had fallen to the floor. More waiting. Would have been nice to be told what had happened and that because of the inconvenience we could have a drink on the house. No such luck. And we waited. Finally our entres came. My prime rib was unchewable. No more prime rib for me. Considering the reputation of Kiernan's, I would have expected much , much better. Customer happy it was not. Cons: lack of diner consideration more

Not Worth the Money 2/12/2009

My husband and i are on a mission to try new restaurant and finally decided to try Kiernan's and what a disappointment it was. 10 minutes for waitress to arrive. She was very dry and rude, almost as if she was doing us a favor by waiting on us. Bread arrives 15 minutes later then we wait...15 min. our soup arrives. Good, but my husband's was on the cold side. We wait again, Escargot come out with absolutely no flavor. the waitress by the way was showing up every 15 minutes or so to refill water with no other acknowledgment. We wait again, 15...20 minutes go by and no salad. By then we were fedup with the delay 1h 5 mins to get a salad???. We asked the waitress for our order, she rudely responded that we have a busy dining room and you ordered full course dinner (app, soup, salad and steak) it will take a while (that was an 1hr 5mins later, we timed it). i called the manager and he stomped over as if we had insulted him. we heard the waitress talk to him before he arrived. he was even more rude than the waitress. We explained the long wait, the bad service but he sided with the waitress and accused us htat we had been on the phone when she came to take our order and we shooed her away (not true by the way, when she finally came around it was 10 minutes after we had been seated and off the phone). We told him to wrap the food to go he said no need, he will take care of it and just walked away with no apology/comment..VERY ARROGANT!! Whatever happened to customer service?? if i recall we were the paying customer here. They apparently don't need our business.\r We paid, left 10% and left. NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN. DON'T RECOMMEND!! to make matters worse, Valet guy was an older man who could not find the car. we had to wait 10 minutes in the freezing cold for him to bring the car. \r Dingy, dark place, bland food, poor service. They are trying to market themselves as higher end but truly you can get better service at applebees. We did not even get to the main course!! Cons: Service: Long wait, Rude wait staff, average food. more

Terrible, cold, food 9/21/2007

I will never go to this overprice, steakhouse again. The potatoes were cold, steak overcooked (I ordered it medium, got burnt). Service was poor. Waitstaff rude. Not recommended if you want a nice evening out. Pros: Nothing about this place is good Cons: Terrible, poor food quality more

Great as always!! 7/15/2007

Went to Kiernans again Friday night (7-13-2007). Service by Karen was great. She always does a great job. My filet mignon was awsome and cooked just how i ordered it. Baked potatoe was hot and very good.\r my wife had the steak Kiernan dish and she said it was great as usual. That seems to be the only thing she orders. We had a bottle of wine (Jordon Cabernet). My favorite bottle from the many selections on their wine list. Been going to Kiernans for years and everything is always good. The staff is very nice and one of the owners is always around to greet us and say hello. We hope to have many more enjoyable meals there in the years to come. Keep up the good work. Pros: geat food and a good drink more

Not Impressed 7/9/2007

I have lived in Dearborn over 6 years, my first visit to Kiernans was on 7-7-07.\r \r We started out with oysters rock, they were good.\r Our salads came after that and they were warm and soft lettuce, we didnt complain.\r \r Our entres came out and they looked good, the lamb chops I had were not cooked as I had asked, and absolutley no seasoning, very bland. The rice that came with it was worse than boxed.\r \r My husband had the sat. night special of steak, lobster tail and shrimp, his steak tasted mushy, like it was frozen, not seasoned well, his shrimp reminded me of dinner at red lobster, not good.\r \r The empty dining room should of been my guss as how the food was going to be, but we thought we would give it a chance, I can see why they added a martini bar next -door. Pros: Will not have to wait for a table on a saturday night! Cons: terrible food. more

Cold Food 1/4/2005

overcrowded for New Years - ordered sauteed perch at $28 with rice, received cold plate of mashed potatoes with colder fish. Instead of taking two minutes to cook fresh meal - they microwaved the fish - which made it rubbery. more

Dry, overcooked steaks and poor service! 6/30/2003

Our first (and last) visit to Kiernan's was terrible! The waitress seemed to be in a bad mood, and did not take good care of us. We waited approximately 45 minutes for our steaks, which were overcooked and dry when she finally brought them out. We normally would send them back, but based on her mood toward us, we decided to write it off. The food, the atmosphere and the service definitely did not add up to the $80 tab for my wife and me. We are the type of customers waitpeople like to wait on - we are not demanding people, we are friendly to our servers, and we typically tip 20+ percent. I state this to add context to my comments regarding Kiernan's - we will never go back. Cons: Poor quality of food, Poor Service, Overpriced more

Great Snails, too! 1/13/2003

We love Kiernans! It has been an established restaurant in Dearborn for many, many years & the food & service are wonderful...Kevin, & brother Pat Kiernan are fabulous hosts! We love the lighting...very conducive to enjoying good conversation with the delicious meal. Both sides are excellent (Silky's & Kiernan's). The management (Carmen) & staff provide excellent service. Always a great place for a date or to meet friends, entertain guests... more
