Sometimes I just want a cheeseburger, you know what I mean?
Then this happened *sigh*. I went to Johnny Rockets at MacArthur Center.
Gross. Our waiter was sitting at the counter after taking our order eating chicken wings and throwing the bones over the counter into the trash, same with his napkin. Then he starts putting his finger inside his ear, I am not kidding. Another employee working behind the counter was eating off an employee's plate who was sitting at the counter. Soda was flat (forgivable) strawberry shake was sour and chunky (bad milk), employees were out of control. Place was dirty.
We left before eating and quietly(as not to cause a scene) told the waiter why -the drinks, his eating/throwing trash, no hand washing etc. Basically we were grossed out.
I wondered where the management was. I have worked as a chef for over 25 years and have never seen anything like this. Remember, this is an open kitchen. The unconcern for anything remotely sanitary was amazing. It blew me away. Look, I'm no snob. I eat anywhere the food is good, including dive/hole in the wall joints (they have the best food a lot of the time). I can over look a lot of things if the place rocks.
I can't remember the last time I left a place before getting the actual food. I just kept thinking ""well, maybe the burgers will be good"", but when the shake was sour and he put his finger inside his ear...I couldn't take it.
Oh, and our waiter didn't bring the shake to the table, some line cook still in his plastic gloves did. And we wondered what station he was working, hopefully not the burger area.
