customer service 9/2/2008

Jimbo's Steak & Fin, I have read all 16 reviews, and I'm really afraid of eating here. I keep looking for a good or great seafood resturant here in Boston and there seems to be none. Chris the only good review your resturant has recieved are from 2005- 2006 . 2007 and 2008 seems like you need to reinvent. I'm from Wash DC Metro area. You should make a trip down and see what good seafood resturants are all about. Seafood can be deadly if not fresh. Goodluck. more

Horrible experience, mediocre food, rude and indignant service. 8/29/2008

I was the coordinator for the large group in the previous post. I did in fact have multiple conversations with Chris the owner and Jonathan the manager prior to our arrival. I was in contact with them for weeks before our arrival and I had a tour of the establishment on the Thursday prior to this Saturday night event. I was assured everything was in order and that it was no problem to have separate checks and to order from the menu and that we could come and be seated in groups of 4-6. The owner Chris called this "shotgun seating" whereby you take the large group and scatter them around the restaurant in said small groups or tables. Chris assured me that this was both efficient and convenient for both the group and his restaurant and that he had vast experience in doing this. The events unfolded exactly as described in the previous post with 40+ of our group having to wait 2-2 1/2 hours to be served, not to mention waiting literally 45 minutes to an hour just to have a drink refilled. On top of all of this the food was mediocre at best and downright horrible in some cases. Plus the wait staff in some cases was absolutely rude and indignant in doing business with us. I did indeed meet with Chris and told him of the total dissatisfaction of those who experienced this. I told him that I would really appreciate him taking care of this situation with some form of compensation. He assured me he would look at the checks and "make them happy". Unfortunately this was the last time Chris would be seen by anyone from our group that night as he went to his office and would not come back out. As a result of this debacle I have filed a complaint with the Beter Business Bureau of Braintree and asked for a full refund on behalf of those 40+ people since Chris did not own up to the mistakes of his establishment that night. We will see where that leads. more

Do Not Eat at Jimbo's! 8/25/2008

I was part of a large group that dined at Jimbo's on August 23, 2008. We had contacted the owner Chris as far back as May so that the restaurant could be well prepared for a crowd of over 100 on a Saturday night. Our group coordinator was assured by both the owner and the managers that there would be no problems with our group dining there even going so far as to contact him weekly and showing him around on a tour of the restaurant. We were specific in what we asked for: separate checks, the ability to order individually , being seated in small groups of 4-6. When we arrived, the first 40 people in our group received satisfactory service. They were seated promptly, they were served a bread basket after their order was taken, their drinks were refilled. Getting the check was another matter however. Not only did we have to ask for it multiple times, the waitress made many excuses as to why the check could not be split up as we had asked. The next 60 members of our group had one of the worst experiences in dining any of us could recall. While their orders were taken promptly, and they received their drinks, they were never served bread. The waitress did not come back for nearly an hour at one point. After waiting for over two hours, having to hunt down the waitress, and threatening to just walk out, the rest of the group finally received their food. But things did not get better. Several of the kids orders of fish and chips were clearly cold and had apparently been fried well over an hour before being served. Those of us who had ordered scallops had all noticed that they had an off taste, not something you want to encounter when eating seafood. One of our party was even violently ill that night. It was another hour long battle just to get the checks. Our coordinator talked to the owner that evening and was told that there would be some compensation for this. The only compensation that came was the owner and manager locking themselves in the office. Pros: Casual Atmosphere Cons: horrible service, spoiled seafood, better food for the same price elsewhere more

Now I remember.... 8/24/2008

Friday evening, my brother and his family joined my son and I for dinner at Jimbo's. I couldn't remember why I hadn't been there in such a long time seeing that I live 5 minutes away. We were seated right away but the service and wait for food was awful. I also would mention that the Fishermans Lobster was not very good. The seafod stuffing and bread crumb topping was Ritz Crackers!!!! Everyone was dissappointed except for my son who will eat anything. Now I remember and will never go again!!!! more

STAY AWAY.... 8/24/2008

Me, my wife and 6 year old son along with my sister and her son went to Jimbos on Friday night. And I have to say it was one of the WORSE eating out experiences that I have had. We were sat promptly (best part of the night) and proceeded to look over the menu while placein orders for drinks. Once the waitress took our drink order than our app order she disappeared. Came back 15 min. later (no prob) with the drinks and sid apps would be right out. 45 MINUTES later the apps arrived minus my shremp skewer. Almost forgot (they ran out of steamers at 8pm) they arrived maybe 7 minutes later and were okay. now the worst part.... my wife ordered: pasta diablo ~ looked like a kid size meal she was done in less than 10 minutes and was upset the rest of the night. I ordered the Lobster scampi ~ I asked if they could add shrimp and they obliged (tip rising..:-). Before the food came out the waitress came out to tell me that they ran out of LINGUINI and would I like ZITI. I may not be Italian but I know replacing LINGUINI with ZITI does constitute the same plate. Even worse, the Ziti was overcooked. Sister order struufed lobster: had she known it had ritx crackers for breadcrumbs she woud have saved her 30 bucks and ordered a pizza. My 6 year old son who eats ANYTHING never touched the chix (he did like the waffle fries and the rasberry lemonade) lastly my nephew who eats like a college lineman ate everything he ordered from the broiled cod to the tower app, to the brownie sundea. BUT WHEN HE GOT HOME.......... out of 5 stars Jimbos gets a 2 and that was bc of the lemonade andn Long Island Ice Tea..... Pros: RASBERRY LEMONADE Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE more

Jimbo's gone bad! 7/17/2008

I visited on July 18th with some family members. The food was not good. The clam chowder could have been mistaken for potatoe soup. They advertise onion straws as their onion rings...no way-- they were thick typcial onion rings with a nasty taste. The clam strips were fine (the ones that weren't undercooked and gooey) but the tarter sauce was absolutely terrible unless you love a lot of relish. The lobster tail was tough and not worth $25. The chicken tenders were rubberish and hard to swallow. The pre-dinner rolls were warm and hard around the edges. The diet coke was flat. I had to get myself a refill of water. Boston may have a lot of water on it's coast but it's hard to get a refill in Braintree! The waitress disappeared constantly and the restaurant wasn't even busy. She was there with her hand out at the end of the meal tho'. I went with high expectations based on prior reviews---but I was very unimpressed! The scallops were good. One scallop had an unidentifiable crunchy substance (not a shell) in it..but they were good tasting. Pros: the Heinz ketchup was good Cons: lobster, rolls, onion rings, chicken strips, and service! more

Just got back from there and I had the best pizza ever!!! and its from a restaurant known for seafood 7/10/2008

So I haven't been to jimbos in a while because thats where my parents go all the time.... well now I know why they go there and not the trendy new places. It was great. we sat in the bar area in a huge booth that could have sat 3 more people than us 4 girls. We were greeted by a nice guy from behind the bar (cute too:) and he gave us the dinner menu and the bar menu. We had some of each. Lobster slider for $4 and pretzel bites for $2. We ordered a bacon chesseburger pizza and a BBQ chicken pizza they were both great. samantha, diane and I had the bucket of beer, 4 bottles of bud lite and a pound of wings for something like $10. they have Buzztime trivia and the red sox on the tvs so you can play trivia and watch the game at the same time. I tell you this is our new hang out. We are coming on saturday because they do KARAOKE at 10 in the lounge. see you there Pros: Great bar, buzztime trivia, great pizza, great nar menu, great prices, great booths Cons: parking lot could be bigger but you can park accross the street at the bank more

Very nice service and great food, I wish there was one in Chicago 7/10/2008

My wife and I flew in to Boston and stayed at the Holiday Inn express in Braintree. I asked the girl at the desk where was the best place for new England Seafood. She said Jimbos. Before we went I checked this website and read the last review so we went with a little trepidation. Boy am I glad we went. It was fantastic. the lady at the door was nice, the room was nice, the girl who served was sweet and knowlegable. But the best part was the food. We had calamari to start- it was delicious. we also had two crabcakes and they were all crab. I had the almond haddock. it was delightfull - flakey, gold brown with zuccs and squash. my wife had the fried whole belly clams. she is a good eater yet she could not finish because the portion was huge. When she had left some on the plate the server was all concerned that she did not care for them but she just could not put another one in. She texted her sister back in Chicago teasing her as to how great her meal was and that Andrea was still in Chicago. We have a McCormick & Schmicks which I thought was the best seafood anywhere but Jimbo's beats them. We went 2 more times in a 5 day visit to Boston. Pros: everything... the food , the service, the value Cons: I guess it would be the old bathroom, and the small parking lot more

I wish I could give less than 1 star it was so bad 7/5/2008

My husband, daughter and I went to Jimbo's about 3 weeks ago (in June '08) and I have to say this was the absolute WORST dining experience I have ever had! First, the front entrance looked dirty, when I put my hand on the top of the hostess counter, it felt greasy. The whole place needs a good old fashioned cleaning. Secondly, we visited during one of the hottest days in June, so we wanted to go out for dinner to cool off. Well, Jimbo's either didn't pay their AC bill or decided to NOT put the AC on because it was brutally hot in there. We were taken to the front room (that overlooks the street) and they are clearly undergoing some sort of construction because wires were exposed, drywall was not replaced, etc. Our waitress came over (never introduced herself) and took our drink orders. The Coke was flat, and my 5 year old spilled her Coke. I found our waitress at the server stand and said she'd spilled her Coke and could I have something to clean it up with. She gave me two, dry, napkins (not a wet towel or anything) and sent me on my way. She didn't follow me back to the table to help! Needless to say, these two napkins didn't help, so we took some more napkins off other empty tables. The waitress came to our table and told us to "just leave it; I'll clean it up after". Um, excuse me...did you happen to notice I've got COKE all over the table? She then came back with Purell. Sure, whatever. When the food finally arrived, I couldn't eat my Fried Clams since they had a really odd taste to them. My husband's picatta was more like gruel as it was so doused in sauce that you really couldn't taste anything. Even my daughter's kid's meal was gross, and she'll eat anything. I took my daughter to the bathroom and all the lights were out--very creepy. The bathroom was disgusting and didn't feel like anyone had attended to it in a while. All in all, Jimbo's is a place that should be visited by the board of health and shut down for a complete and total overhaul. NEVER again! Pros: None...only if they tore it down and started from scratch Cons: Too little space to list the plethora of cons more

The most awful dining experience I have ever had 3/23/2008

Haven't been to Jimbos in years; about 6 or 7, so I decided to take my mother (since she prefers fish ) on Easter Sunday. The food was awful; Yes, we got seated right away; because we had reservations, as we waited for my daughter to arrive, my mother and I noticed how dirty the front of the restaurant was. We got seated and ordered 2 Broiled Haddcok, with mashed potatioes and squash and 1 Ham dinner. The fish was tasteless..except for the breadcrumbs and butter. The mashed potatoes had a funny odor..and the taste was tinny. Can't figure this out..awful. The squash wasn't squash at all, it tasted like pumpkin for a pie, and was so sweet I couldn't eat it. We ordered 2 sodas and even that was flat. ! My daughter got the ham dinner it had some nasty cloudy pineapple sauce on it..awful. She said it tasted like a bad hotdog. Frankly, It was the most awful dining experience I have ever had. Someone should revamp the menu and find a good cleaning crew, because this restaurant really needs help. I would never go again; or recommend it to anyone. Right after we left, there was a party of six outside and they heard me say how awful tmy food was; and they joined in by saying that everyone of their meals was equally as awful. I was embarassed and had to apologize to my mother and daughter for even suggesting Jimbo's. Pros: Awful Food, Dirty Restaurant Cons: Good Location more

Nice place for a girls night dinner 3/2/2008

Two of my girlfriends and I got together at Jimbo's. I had forgotten about Jimbos as an option. We just stopped going there a few years ago. What a mistake not to have gone lately. We were seated wuickly after a ten minute wait that the hostess got right. Don't you hate when they say ten minutes but it really is twenty five.... The server was great she walked us through the menu as it is bigger than i remember and she made a few suggestions. we ordered mussels and chicken fingers. Both were great she came back often but was not annoying. She timed our dinners nicely. I had the seafood stirfry which was hot, tasty and very good. Michelle had the five corner salad with pears, grapes, shrimp and a great dressing. first time in a long time she was quiet for ten minutes while she ate so it must have been very good. Amy had a small pizza called XTs thin pizza. it was very thin and delicious. We have already made plans to go back next week for the Sunday Brunch I Highly Recommend this restaurant Pros: The food, the Service and the prices Cons: The parking lot is small but there is parking at the Bank also more

Yikes!!!!!!!!!1 2/9/2008

Took my wife and 8 of our good friends out to a dinner on Saturday night. I have been to Jimbo's before (6-8 years ago) and I was expecting a nice casual meal....man have things changed!! We arrive and we are put into a nice quiet room, our waitress comes and takes our drink orders. 20 minutes later we get our drinks....that's ok, we are having nice conversation. We order apps....basic apps which include fried cheese sticks, calamari..mussels..scallops wrapped in bacon..chicken fingers (sounds fantastic). The apps arrive in a timely manner, my friend bites into her chicken finger (who is pregnant)...red and raw inside...these things must have been cooked for 2 minutes max. After trying to get our waitress for ten minutes I tell her about both the chicken fingers and our scallops which have not been cooked. She takes them away and promises to bring them back in a timely manner. This is where it get's fun: She brings back both the scallops and the chicken fingers...IT'S THE ORIGINAL ORDER!! They took this raw chicken which everyone had cut into (you can see because 3 pieces of the chicken were cut in the middle from where we "tried" to eat it) and they refried them and brought them back to the table!!! Are you kidding me!!?? Dinner...arrives. My wife orders haddock which once again is undercooked. At this point I am ready to go. Not once did the waitress come back in to see if we were ok with our meals. Only time she came in after that was asking if we wanted anything else to eat. CHECK PLEASE!! I was very dissapointed in Jimbo's. What use to be a very nice place is now a dump!! I was shocked when I pulled in on a Saturday night and saw the parking lot pretty empty...I now know why. Overall Jimbo's experience- F Pros: Nice casual setting Cons: Atleas the night I went..no service...uncooked food more

Warming Experience 11/28/2007

My girlfriend and I decided to give Jimbo's a try and we are both glad that we did. We were greeted by a very nice gentleman who promtly seated us. Our waitress was very nice and informative about the menu. Let us know the spcials and was more than happpy to answer any questions we had. Although I can't remember what my girlfriend ordered, the burger I had was delicious. Good environment, great service, cold beer, and good food...what else can you ask for? I high recommend Jimbo's to anyone who is looking for a nice relaxing and casual dinner spot. Pros: Atmosphere, Staff, Food Cons: parking more

What a disappointment 7/15/2007

It was a birthday dinner. Seated immediately. Wonderful waitress. Quick service. (Only 3 other table occupied at 3PM) Appetizers: Bacon wrapped scallops, Crispy brown on the outside, cooked properly inside Stuffed mushrooms, well cooked, but under seasoned Seafood Chowder - creamy, warm Clam chowder - thick, lots of potatos, couldn't find the clams and it was TASTELESS. Waitress went to the kitchen to taste and returned and said she'd take that off the bill. Dinner. Birthday boy had the fish and chips. Small portion of fish but he liked it. Small portion of frozen french fries and small cup of slaw that he didn't eat. My daughter & I had Baked Sole with Crumb Crust. Fish wasn't seasoned, crumb crust was just that. Crumbs, no seasoning, no butter or oil, held under the broiler until the top crumbs were black. Fish hadn't turned bad, but it has a definite "off" flavor. Must've been on the counter too long. Evidently the chef didn't taste anything he sent out. Dessert. Rather than list what's available, the waitress carried out a very large round platter with a slice of everything available. All quite past thier prime. A list would've been better. Daughter ordered a slice of cheesecake. Definitely commercial, but had been sitting at room temp for too long. Graham crust soggy, cheesecake no texture because it was so warm Didn't have the heart to send anything back because the waitress was so accomodating. $75 isn't a lot for meals for 3 but not here. Sorry to say we'll never be back. Don't think anyone else will be either if they don't change the chef or management or both Pros: Ample parking, wonderful waitress, convenient location Cons: The food, The food, The food more

more than just a seafood restaurant 6/4/2006

My wife, freinds and I ate at Jimbo's Steak and Fin last night because my wife wanted seafood. I fought going because Jimbo's was so-so in the past. She insisted --we went. I am glad we did. I had a great sirloin/shrimp combo, she had scallop marsala that was fantastic. My buddy had the ribs-great. His wife had lobster-devoured. We had great appetizers and wine from a nice list that surprised me. The server was friendly, knowledgeable and had a great smile. Manager came to the table in a freindly manner. He told us about the new owner and all the changes they made, in food and structure in the restaurant. There was a rehearsal dinner in the front room when we were there. It was lovely with hurricane candles. THE IMPORTANT PART WAS THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD AND SERVICE and VALUE. Pros: Great value, Great food, Nice people Cons: need new sign more

What A Surprise!! 3/20/2006

Wnet to Jimbo's Steak And Fin after hearing that there was a new owner and boy were we glad that we did. It was great. the service was very friendly and efficient - no more of the old and crabby waotstaff that they used to have. The food was fantastic same chowder thank god but you could tell they get fresh seafood because it melted in my mouth. my daughter had a shrimp scampi that they downsized for herso she was full and I didn;t get killed with a full priced adult portion. And then to top it off my son had the cheeseburger pizza and I ate two of the pieces because it was fantastic. who would of thought that you could get great pizza at jimbos. I strongly reccommend this restaurant to you.. Pros: different rooms, great value, wide variety Cons: can get crowded more

unexpectedly great 12/13/2005

I have not been to Braintree Jimbos for a few years. It never did anything for me. Saw the ad about a new owner. Went in last night with two friends. everything we had was great. Malpeque oysters and shrimp cocktail were fresh and cold. fried calamari was fresh not frozen. Spinach salad was crispy and the presentation was very nice. The prime rib was very tasty, ribs were out of this world and the stuffed salmon was awesome. Service was very friendly not stuffy and the bill was much less than in town or Legals. They have renovated the place. You should go as every thing was great. Pros: food was great, very good value, nice servers Cons: old bathrooms more

  • In Short
Longtime favorites of area families looking for an affordable seafood meal, Jimbo's Boston and Braintree locations feature lengthy menus of classic fish dishes (scrod au gratin, stuffed shrimp casserole, broiled bluefish) and kid-approved fare (pizza, tuna melts). The clam chowder has won numerous awards, and the popular Greek salad is large enough for three. Fried seafood platters come in "lite" and full portions, and there are plenty of low-carb options for those watching their weight.
