I had the most appalling experience at Isobune last night. First, my husband and I weren't greeted when we entered the restaurant. Usually the Japantown location is very big with this, especially since they usually have a waiting list at the door during prime dinnertime. At Burlingame, we pathetically had to seat ourselves.
Then, the dreadful looking sushi passes by. One limp, pathetic offering after another. One passes by, called Black Tobiko with (boiled) Quail Egg - eew! Usually, this is done with Ikura and a raw Quail Egg, no such luck. This must be cheaper. Keeps longer too to avoid salmonella, I guess.
What else can I say? Well, last time we were here, I remember ordering from their sushi chef: Hamachi, Uni, Tai, all of which were way past their prime. So this time, I was afraid to order from the sushi chef to see what he could pawn-off.
I just tried to find something halfway edible on the already pre-made, choked those up, and am promising myself to never, ever return. Never, ever again.
