DO NOT Eat at this restaurant 5/8/2008

This was, unquestionably, the worst restaurant experience that I have had in quite some time. The fact that the place was nearly empty at 6:30 p.m. should have been a clue, but I figured that I would give it a shot because it was so close to home (a decision that I immediately regretted). The entire restaurant looked like it had been neglected since the mid-1980s. The wait staff was strangely aloof. I wouldn?t say rude?more like clueless and out of touch. We were given menus that were cracked and falling apart; my wife?s looked like someone had taken a bite out of one of the corners. We were served water in dirty plastic cups that had probably been sitting on the table since the previous summer. The rug in the bathroom was soaking wet, as if there had been a flood of some sort, and the whole place had an odor reminiscent of a retirement home. I would have been willing to overlook all of this had the food been good. But, alas, it was not. The Caesar salads of limp, soggy, brown romaine set the stage for our entrees. The sauces on our pastas were clearly premade and frozen, and the pasta itself was inferior to even the worst TV dinner. While the utter lack of taste in my dish was disconcerting, the horrendously offensive taste of my wife?s dish rendered it inedible to all but a canine palate. The worst part of the experience was the price. For the prices that they charge, this level of food and services is just unacceptable. If you are in Newtown and looking for good Italian cuisine, keep looking, because you won?t find it at Il Sol. Pros: none Cons: did you read my review? more

Good Food 3/17/2006

It's a quaint little restaurant in the heart of Newtown. We went there with a group and found the food to be very good. We had reservations, so we were seated immediately. Even though the food was good, we felt it was overpriced for what you got. It was crowded the day we went and being a small place it was not very comfortable. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Expensive more

Before La Stalla, there was... 10/18/2005

Il Sol has been around Newtown before La Stalla, before Dolce Carini, and well, before many of the too many italian restaurants in Newtown. Yet it still gets business, just not as much as it once did. Most of the things about this restaurant stand in the average/good category. Besides far too many chipped plates, and a leak from the waterfall up front, this place is a great local restaurant which too many take for granted and find themselves at places such as La Stalla, waiting a hour and a half to be seated. I fear that the next major blockbuster Italian restaurant that opens in Newtown may bring Il Sol to a nonexistance. more
