Ichiban 12/22/2011

We have not dined here for quite a while now, but we thought that we should give it a shot again. When I had to wait an hour to get our food I was thinking in my head that I should have listened to my fellow yelpers! We had to wait literally an hour to get our first order, I am not exaggerating. I was counting the minutes! So if you do not mind waiting for a long time to get a table and to get your food for just a mediocre sushi, ignore what I am writing here by all means. We ordered one of the boats. Teriyaki chicken tasted like it was pre-cooked a day before and heated up right before they put it on the boat. Seared halibut appetizer did not have any taste at all. It tasted like fish without any seasoning even with their lemon sauce on top (imagine that!). Definitely not worth $11 for that. We ordered baked salmon, salmon skin, caterpiller roll, fuji roll, philadelphia roll, and a few other rolls since there were about ten people in our party. Salmon skin hardly had salmon skin in it. Cream cheese in the philadelphia roll was just way too soft. Caterpiller roll was ok to me, but way more avocado than eel for some in our group (don't get me wrong, I like avocado, but there was hardly any eel). We ordered a few assorted sashimi and the fish were fresh enough, but definitely not one of the best. I guess Ichiban is not ""ichiban"" after all. This place used to serve great food about 5 or 6 years back, but the quality and service had gone way....down since then. We are not going back again for sure. If the food was just outstanding, I would not have cared about waiting for an hour to get my food, but there are many Japanese sushi restaurants way better than this place around the area for that. more

Great food and service 8/28/2010

I have been going to Ichiban for years and was surprised to read the negative reviews. Every time I go there the fish is fresh and the people are friendly. I would recommend trying the Sashimi Latina and Mt. Fuji roll they are both excellent. The owner is also a very nice lady, it is no wonder that Ichiban has been open for 23 years. more

Stay away for now. Worst service I ever had in sushi place 6/1/2010

On the memorial day I decided to take my folks for a good sushi. Ichiban used to be great! Now all of the previous servers are gone, instead there is a bunch of young yuppies who do not understand what good service means.\r \r I call for service, they look straight at me turn around and go in a different direction. I said that tea is cold; the guy tells me that it is steaming, so it must be hot. Get the f%^& out and get me some nice hot green tea.\r \r If you are in the area go to Magaroya in Placentia or or Kiory in Fullerton.\r \r This place needs a major attitude change before I ever go back there again. After 10 years of frequenting this place, I am done unless something visibly changes.\r \r I never had service like this in Japanese sushi! What a dump.\r \r Pros: used to be a good place Cons: Terrible service. Authenticity is gone. more

I do not recommend here! 7/24/2009

I went to Ichiban long time ago. At that time it was great.\r However, these days it is terrible. There are a lot of items in memu, but nothing to eat...\r I don' t recommend this place... Cons: quality of food, expensive price more

Worst sushi place ever! 4/27/2009

Unfortunately.....I thought this is the worst sushi place in the U.S. The service was terrible and sushi was not so fresh. \r I don't recommend this place especially to the Japanese born in Japan. Cons: Who wants to eat sushi here? more
