Houston's GREAT Salads 5/27/2010

I love this place :) Pros: GREAT croutons and ranch Cons: nothing more

great place to eat 12/21/2009

I have been eating at Houstons since it opened. The food is the best and the service is top rate. You never want for anything. Shelia a long time employee is one of the highlights of our visit. No one can beat your service and food. Pros: best chickent fingers in town Cons: none more

Romantic? 7/1/2009

This place is about as romantic as Burger King, crowded with nowhere to wait for your table except the bar which is packed. If you think you can make a marriage proposal here be sure and bring a megaphone! Pros: location Cons: long wait more

Year after year: Consistantly Good to Great 5/29/2009

Houson's is the most consistant, high-quality restaurant in Memphis. The service is excellent as well. more

Always Good! 7/5/2008

Ah, Houston's....what do they serve that ISN'T always good and consistant? The Hawaiian Ribeye is wonderful...probably my favorite entree. The spinach artichoke dip could be a meal in itself! Customer service is nearly always top notch (save my last visit there - the server's mind was elsewhere). The fresh squeezed orange juice makes for a nice screwdriver at brunch and the atmosphere is dark wood and dim lighting. My only complaint is that they took my and my fiance's favorite item, the Biltmore chicken sandwich, off the menu. :( more

Best steak, beef in town 7/5/2007

The wait is long, but worth it, get there early for lunch 10:30 - 11:00 or dinner 3:00 - 4:30 p.m , but food is great, steak is excellent, Try to avoid weekends or your wait is very, very, long. Romantic setting, not really for kids, so not a family resturant. Menu is not family friendly. Pros: Good food, wine, setting is nice for a evening out with your love one Cons: the long wait to be seated more

All hype, menu-mechanized regional chain ! 4/20/2007

I never understood why the people in Memphis stnd in line to eat this high-priced junk....never....and it's not special (menu)! Only easily impressed buffoons spend their money on this type of chain, uninspired food ! Who cares about salads ?? You normally go for the entree, right? Pros: decent location Cons: Chain food, limited menu...expensive for the quality more

Good salads, everything else average 8/1/2006

If you think this is a romantic place, I feel sad for your spouse/partner. It's a food factory where you wait forever to get in, then rushed out as soon as you put your fork down. I don't get the attraction. Pros: Good salads Cons: The awful wait and the bums rush to leave more

Overrated and overpriced! 7/24/2006

Please, I can't believe people actually think this is a great restaurant. It's a grill, glorified pub grub for God's sake, and people are waiting in line to get seated. I just don't understand Memphians sometimes, they actually come here to have a steak. My husband and I went and split a bowl of soup, each had a salad, he had tea and I had water and the meal with tip was over $50. To their credit, the salads are good, but my God, you'd think they were flying in the lettuce from France. Once in a blue moon I'll come here, but I'll never make it a habit. For those prices, you could go to a nice family-owned steak restaurant and have a phenomenal meal. Try Jim's Place East. Pros: Good Salads, Friendly Wait Staff Cons: Overpriced, Long Wait more

Houston's : a perfected hussle 6/27/2006

Chain food, rush you in rush you out. In my view only idiots would wait in the lobby over thirty minutes to eat this fare, but if you don't know any better, you might think this stuff is gourmet cuisine, it's NO big deal here, whether in Memphis or in Lenox Square in Atlanta...same ole same ole more

Best ribs I've ever eaten, anywhere, chain or not 6/15/2005

...always consistant, even though the server was snooty this past time. I wanted to add a salad to my meal (cheaper that way) and give it to my daughter to eat (12 yrs. old), and the server barked that is not allowed and the person who orders it must EAT IT! HUH??? It's my food, honey! Also noticed my rib serving was slightly smaller than in the past. Pros: Ribs, salads Cons: Service, no sharing!, limited menu more

Houstons 1/15/2004

Probably one of the best restaurants in the city. You have to start with the Chicago style Spinach and Artichoke dip. The ribs are best in town. The salads are large portions, try the grilled chicken salad. Save room for desserts. more

Disappointed! 2/24/2003

We don't have a Houston's in the Charlotte area, but I have had wonderful meals in the Atlanta location. This was extremely disappointing: Quoted 15-20 minutes wait; Sat in cold lobby for 35+; Very limited menu (unless you like beef); Server OK; Ordered salmon - nothing special; vegatables were burnt and cold. Need I say more? Pros: Good atmosphere Cons: Limited Menu, Expensive choices more

waste of time 1/2/2003

a late friend of mine used to refer to this place as an "over-rated sandwich shop". the wait, service, and food is placed way to high on the pedestal for the price. if you like spending your hard earned money for less than average quality, this is hte place for you. Cons: food, overall quality, price more

not the same 1/1/2003

My family has dined here for approximately 16 yrs. It is just great to get away for good food since we live in a small town about 100 miles away. Our last trip was a little disappointing. I love the prime rib. In the past, the size was always very nice. This time the cut was about one third the normal for your restaurant. I beg you. Please don't change. We want to experince the same portions. I don't mind the expense . Pros: good service, quality food Cons: crowded, small waiting area more

rib-ticklin' good 12/19/2002

During past two visits to Houston's, we have been impressed with consistency of the food, and its high quality. The ribs are particularly wonderful! The dinner salad, for $4, is almost a meal in itself, and can easily be shared by two, prior to the main course. Pros: Responsive service, plenty of parking, good value Cons: No reservations more

The Best 12/13/2002

The best 'thing' at Houston's is the service, the Hawaiin steak (medium), and the Pork Chop butterflied. The service is truly second to none. A true steak lover never gets a steak well done and if cooked properly, the steaks here are the juiciest. True, i have been served a medioce staek once, but never twice. I guess it depends on the cook. The ambience is exceptional and the wait speaks fo itself. The people you run into and hob nob with are of the best that Memphis has to offer. The parking lot looks like a car show of excellence. Just the feel of being in tht restaurant is worth the outing and once again the food is exceptional. Pros: service, people, steaks/pork chop Cons: limited wine list more

Highly Recommended 10/15/2002

If you've never dined at a Houston's restaurant, then you have to at least give it a try. Even though this is a "chain" restaurant, the menus do vary. Their service is always outstanding--guaranteed. The food is great & often changing (at least some of the details). There can be a wait if you decide to go during the weekend & maybe some weeknights, but I think you'd find that at any good restaurant. I don't recommend the restaurant for children, but it is an excellent place for a night out. Pros: Service, Food Cons: No Reservations, No Deliveries more

YOU'VE got to be Kidding! 9/25/2002

This place is a masterful "chain"..brilliant in standardization...awful in imagination...and the place is NOT cheap...and the wait?? the place is not worth standing in line like cattle..I've heard people say things like: "but they have great salads!", yeah right, what idiot goes to "dinner" and actually orders "a salad" for an entree... You've got to be dumb as a box of rocks to buy into the notion that "Houston's" deserves some kind of award, for being another "chain". It's expensive, fair, "chain-like" food, that's all Pros: east location, nice bar Cons: the food, the menu, no real value more

best place to be 9/12/2002

houstons is the best place in memphis. it is also the hardest place to work in town. i dare any one of you people who gave terrible reviews to try and wait tables there just one day and see how long you last. i guarantee you wont make it more than 2 hours at most. if you dont like the place, dont come back. we have many loyal customers who have eaten there every day for 17 years. now if that doesnt say its a great place, then youre missing out. of course the wait is long, because its a good place. name one place that enjoyable where there isnt such a wait. excellent food. excellent service. more

  • In Short
Burnished brass and stained wood complement roughly mortared brick and the occasional plant. Amid ubiquitous earth tones, corporate types and small parties (celebrating or simply living large) occupy deep booths done up in fine upholstery and lit from above by pin spotlights. Burgers, prime rib and steaks are the specialties of the house, but the menu also includes salmon, salads, pork chops and roasted chicken.
