Great food, but service was terrible 8/17/2010

I went there for dinner. The host was very rude while taking on the phone not in english. The food take too long to come out. They over charge me on fountain drink. Since it was hot, they charged me over $10 for refill. They add an extra 4cent on my tap saying the computer did it. So be very careful when you eat there. more

Favorite sushi restaurant 2/15/2010

The restaurant is small and clean, reminding me of one you would find in New York. The fish is the freshest I've ever had, including the salmon! They have rare Ankimo, which you cannot find anywhere else except one restaurant in Metairie. Their specials are a must. Pros: Location quality service Cons: A little pricy but worth it more

Love Love Love 12/1/2009

The Sushi Chefs James and Komi were great the sashimi was the best I've ever had!!!! You must eat here if you really love Sushi! Pros: Most Authentic Sushi Ever Cons: A little small but I think it lends itself to the authentic more

Not bad if your hotel is near by 11/18/2009

Walking in, there was a distinct odor of bad fish. Add to that the fact there was only a table of two at 6:30 on a Saturday screamed get out. We had made a reservation so we decided to order a couple of pieces and at least give it a try since we had no fall back plan. The rest of the place smelled fine and the staff was very attentive as you can imagine. We sat at the bar and the sushi chef was very nice and skilled. The fish was better than expected from our 1st impression and the rice was THE best sushi rice we have ever had. While I will probably try someplace else next time,if you are in the area give it a try if for nothing else the rice. Pros: Service, rice, fish quality Cons: entryway odor, limited selection of fish more

Rude service made great meal worthless 11/2/2009

As a former waiter of 12 years, I understand a little bit about the service industry. Earlier this evening we had a party of nine meet up for a going away party at Horinoya. The food was great as usual, but the way we treated by both the owner and the waitstaff was deplorable. I would sooner eat fast food than consider enduring more abusive treatment by this restaurant. By doing everything from flipping chairs at the tables around us to telling us to hurry up with figuring out a check - it was a party of 9 paying one check - it was clear that they had no regard for us. I've heard from others about their attitude - now I know firsthand and do not recommend them. There are plenty of kinder options that have comparable food. Pros: good food Cons: extremely rude service more

My best sushi experience in New Orleans 1/19/2009

I've lived in New Orleans for almost a couple years now and tried pretty much most of the sushi restaurants around including Ninja, Kyoto, Rock-n-Sake, Sushi Brothers, and Sake Cafe. Being Japanese and from California, I have to admit I love my sushi and have some high standards, and although the places listed above were not bad, I never felt truly satisfied or trusted the sashimi enough to order nigiri sushi (the simple slice of sashimi w/ rice). However, I have now found my favorite place for sushi in Horinoya. I cannot say how the other sushi chefs are, however, on this occasion I sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef James made our sushi. He provided great service letting us know what sashimi he would recommend and the way the nigiri sushi came out was the perfect ratio of sashimi to rice, just the way I've had it back in Japan. By the perfect ratio, I mean that the slice of sashimi was so big, you couldn't even see the rice. Also as he recommended, the sashimi was perfect. The restaurant was clean, quiet enough to have a nice conversation, and had great attentive service. This is my first time writing a review and only because my experience was so good have I taken the time to write one. I would highly recommend Horinoya to anyone, particularly for their nigiri sushi! Pros: great nigiri sushi, great service more

This is the BEST sushi I have ever eaten anywhere! 1/18/2009

I live in Atlanta but also have a place in NOLA, and have had lots of sushi even in Japan. I looked this place up for a new sushi place to try with a girlfriend after it was given #1 in city from editors (great call guys). It is a small place but nicely decorated, even had the private room for traditional dining. None of this matters to me but it may to some of you, its also in a good neighborhood and near some very nice hotels. THE SUSHI blew my mind, tuna, whitefish, salmon, and yellowtail were all the best I've had by far. It literally melts in your mouth, and you can cut it (cause we shared each piece) with just one swipe of chopstick. Try that at your regular sushi bar. Pros: Sushi, an amazing find!! more

Truly the BEST Sushi in the South 9/14/2008

This place does the best freshest sushi I have had anywhere in the South. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Great for a group in the private back rooms. Pros: Quality, Service Cons: Parking more

One of the BEST in the South 5/28/2007

Absolutly one of the best Sushi locations in South Louisiana. The YellowTail was the best I've had. Very helpful service (these ladies are great) followed by excellent presentation and flavor. The rolls were not covered with massive amounts of rice. Just right. I think the owner is one of the Sushi chefs. He is very good at his trade. A very pleasent atmosphere and no screaming kids. This will be my goto sushi place for my A-line clients. The price was right in line for the quality and freshness of the meal. A perfect end to a great day of visiting the ""New"" French Quarter. I'l be back. Pros: Two thumbs up for sure. Cons: To far from home :-( 40 miles away more

Sushi in the CBD 8/28/2005
