Chicken Achari 11/28/2010

I live in the Gilbert/Mesa area and I know these areas are not well known for the best, or the most authentic food. With the recent boom of Indian restaurants, I have tried the majority and only one got me addicted to Indian food: Guru Palace. Settled in a shopping center near Trader Joe?s, Guru Palace has been around since 2007 and is going strong. There are multiple reasons why I choose Guru Palace: the food is amazing, the staff is nice, great pricing, and the ambiance is inviting. Like other Indian restaurants, there is a buffet offered in the day time but when dinner starts at 5 p.m, dishes such as Lamb Saag and Chili Chicken begin cooking. My favorite dish is called Chicken Achari. Served in a thick red and brown hued sauce, the flavors of fenugreek coriander and others fresh spices blend together and thickened with butter yogurt and chicken. Priced at 10.99, Chicken Achari is an affordable and tasty dish. more

Indian food that will blow your mind! 2/28/2010

While describing their experiences at ethnic restaurants, many make it out to be a disoriented and confusing experience which they felt would have been better some where else. Luckily, this is not the case after a visit to Guru Palace, located in Mesa. As soon as I walk through the doors of the restaurant, my senses are bombarded with enticing smells and a dazzling interior design. The staff tend to you with welcoming dispositions and show you to your table promptly. The buffet, which I consider to be Guru Palace's prime, is full of any and every Indian dish imaginable that makes for a perfect meal. First, I must order my usual mango lassi. This is a creamy drink that resembles a milkshake. It is rich and sweet; ideal before naturally savory Indian cuisine. Then, I make my way to the buffet. I always put medium sized servings of chicken masala, white rice, and raita on my plate. All three of these dishes combine to form the perfect explosion of spices on my palate while still leaving me hungry for more. There is no doubt that the best part of a buffet is the opportunity to return for more. One can go into an Indian restaurant for brunch, pile their plate up, and not be hungry for the remainder of the day. So come hungry! To finish, I've always chosen kheer for dessert. It is the Indian perception of rice pudding and is completely amazing. Being Indian, kheer has been my favorite dessert since I was a small child, so I know good kheer when I taste it. The kheer from Guru Palace is creamy, sweet and rich. I was shocked to find a restaurant that makes kheer almost as well as my mom! My visits to Guru Palace are frequent and enjoyed immensely. It's awesome to have a restaurant close to home that gives me a comfortable, unique, mouth-watering experience that has kept me coming back for more for years. It's really fun to go with family, friends, co-workers, or anyone else you can possibly think of. I love that it's casual but also has an air of elegance. The entire place exudes serenity; from the decorating to the music being played softly in the background! This is the place to be when you're in search of somewhere to just kick back and enjoy a great plate of delicious Indian Cuisine. Pros: Amazing experience as well as food. more
