We were in Lincoln City over the weekend and one of my wife's co-workers said that The Sea Hag was not to be missed. The menu is extensive, but the dishes are well thought out and flavorful, while relatively simple. I had a couple of local oyster shooters, big, fresh and tasty, then we tried the calamari appetizer, which was in the form of 'strips' from a steak rather than rings. It was tender, lightly battered and hot. My wife had the crab and shrimp au gratin, which was over the top; fresh seafood, a wonderful sauce that complemented it, and a little cheese on top. I had the fresh local oysters, lightly breaded and flash fried; again crisp and hot, juicy and well seasoned. With the appetizers, two entrees, plus a beer and a glass of excellent wine dinner was around $60. Very well worth it. The clam chowder had more clams in it than any I've had elsewhere, and it wasn't over thickened, the bane of many 'homemade' chowders. Seasoned well, and hot. My only (minor) criticism is that the baked potato wasn't GREAT, it was hot, presented with whipped butter and a mix of sour cream and fresh chives, but was notably the only thing that wasn't truly superior. Having just come off of an unsuccessful whale watch, we asked a young local where the best place to get good fresh crab was. He said almost any place in town had good crab but mentioned this one because it was close. We were not disappointed. Hubby and I each had our own large boiled Dungeness crab. All it came with was bread sticks and drawn butter. What else do you need with fresh crab? Oh yes, beer. Several good choices of beer including local beers which we liked. The crab was indeed fresh and was EXCELLENT! The atmosphere was as one might expect from the name ? very nautical and rustic, but pleasant. The service left something to be desired. We had to flag the waitress down every time we needed something. I don?t know what the rest of the food was like. I tried to hear comments from the next table because they had ordered other things. One man liked his oyster stew but that was all I heard. They apparently had a seafood buffet for dinner because they were beginning to set it up as we left.
