Editorial review from Citysearch 7/24/2012

We've been going here for over two decades. First date, and every anniversary of it thereafter, plus special occasions in-between. The decor is nothing special, but who cares? The pizza is the best, and the lasagne is great too!. Far better than any chain, fairly priced, and locally owned and operated too! You could do worse at twice the price. more

Worst taco pizza ever! 9/3/2011

Plain and simple it sucks! do not get the taco pizza! more

Stay away, stay very far away! 5/21/2011

After trying this place TWICE, I can tell you there are far better choices for American Italian then Giovanni's. The breakdown: The meatballs in their spaghetti & meatballs were MICROWAVED to the texture of cardboard. They tasted more like bread crumbs then MEAT. The red sauce was MEH! (Better then jarred Ragu though). more

GREAT EGGPLANT , pizza , service , atmosphere. 12/29/2010

Had a craving for eggplant . And it is HARD to find italian food around here, especially eggplant. Olive Garden and the Spaghetti factory were too busy . This place was also busy but I was too tired to drive anymore , so glad we stayed. What impressed me most was it was ONLY eggplant , when I want eggplant I want JUST eggplant . I don't want noodles , bread , soup or salad like Olive Garden gives you with a pitiful portion. It was DELICIOUS and definately satisfied my craving . My husband had a pizza and they liked that as well. The antipasta in the beginning shut the kids up , nice touch. LOVED it , SO glad olive garden was too busy or I might have never tried this place . Theres also a cool looking bakery right across the street (though this was late and it was closed ). Will be back . more

Worst Pizza in Beaverton....if you get it! 11/26/2010

This has to be the absolute worst place to eat in all of Beaverton. The last THREE times at this place have been HORRIBLE with the very last one being the one that made me write this comment. The pizza was BURNT to a black crisp and served by it's waitress to me like there was nothing wront...OMG! she has to be blind! The other 2 time were was terrible, I phone ordered my pizza on a busy Friday....40 minutes later..NO pizza...no order NO apology! The third time I am referring to this past summer, went in for lunch 30 minutes later asked where our food was after we noticed others get their lunch..NO FOOD! NO ORDER! NO APOLOGY...nothing........she lost the order and never said that she lost the order..asked if we wanted to re-order 40 minutes into a one hour lunch hour! NEVER again.........This place is a BIG fat ZERO!!!!!!!!!! I beg my Beaverton friends......BOYCOT thisplace it needs a reality check, there are better palces to eat in Beaverton. Decarli's..Number ONE in my book for Italian! more

terrific Italian 11/1/2010

Growing up, my family always counted on Lido's Restaurant on Belmont as a terrific place to take out of town guests and supplement a family dinner with take-out. (My dad would be sent with the Kerr canning jars for the excellent soup) It was a fabulous alternative if you weren't in the Bay Area with your family. Well, Giovanni's is an excellent restaurant in the same vein. (I've always wondered if they weren't related as a family) Very good raviolis and gnocchi and real home cooking. The sauce is wonderful. The other critiques say the decor is very plain, but in their banquet room, they have a very nice mural. The restaurant itself has pretty much remained the same as it was back in the 50's, a ""soda-shop"" look. But, I don't care..it costs money to remodel and make things all aesthetic for everyone. The food is great and the service is too. And that's the most important. So, if you're in the mood for some good old fashioned Italian food, like you remember, this is the place to go. more

Fantastic homemade Italian food 1/18/2010

I eat at Giovanni's frequently and I am always satisfied. Their salad dressings are homemade, as well as their soups. I think everything there is homemade, and if it isn't I can't tell. I'm a vegetarian and they actually have a lot of options for me without anything sounding too out there. My favorite is the number 1, spaghetti con pomodoro. The vegetable pizza is also really delicious too. Giovanni's is simple and comfortable, nothing is too fancy or complicated and that's what I really like about it. It's not like Pastini or the Spaghetti Factory, the servers are genuine and the food is always hot. Giovanni's is classic but casual. This is the place for a family dinner or night out with friends. The only con's about the restaurant is the interior. It's pretty outdated but it gives it a comforting charm. The owners are definitely trying to fix the place up though. A few years ago they painted the outside of the building dark red and got new signage for the front and side which makes it look a lot nicer. Pros: Great pasta, great service Cons: Outdated decor more

Help Support YOUR Local Economy!!! 1/9/2010

Giovanni's is a family-owned and operated restaurant in downtown Beaverton which is what first drew me in. The location is great (just two blocks from the BTC and right off Hall Blvd). Giovanni's has been a staple in downtown Beaverton for decades and holds many happy memories for my family and I. Giovanni's will always surpass the nearby Olive Garden, which only offers impersonal service and mass-produced microwaved food. Small businesses are drying up every day in this economy and we must support honest family businesses, like Giovanni's. So next time you are thinking about getting some delicious, well priced Italian food in Beaverton, steer clear of heartless corporations like The Olive Garden and grab some home made minestrone at Giovanni's. Pros: Family owned and operated, delicious food and great location more

Excellent Homeade Italian! 1/2/2010

If you are looking for fancy fine dining, this place is not the place for you. However, if you appreciate wholesome homeade food, giovanni's is perfect. I've been there a few times and each experience has been a pleasant one. The soups, dressings and sauce are all made at Giovanni's, and you can tell. The meatballs are also homemade and make for THE best spaghetti and meatballs ever. The pizza (when crispy) is absolutely delicious and generous. Although the salads are basically greens, croutons and dressing, the dressing is exceptional! Especially the italian. Pros: Homeade Sauce! Homeade Dressing! Piiizza!! Cons: Cheesy Decor more

Are you kidding me? 10/16/2009

I ordered a meatball sub for lunch and was amazed at what I got. An open-faced sub on supermarket bread with a thick, greasy, rubbery layer of melted cheese. What did I find underneath? Meatballs? Frankly, I have no idea what it was. Spongy gray discs of some kind of meat product. No meatballs. I took several out and ate them on their own, and they tasted like... nothing. The so-called salad was nothing but clearly old green leaf lettuce (it was browning) and five little pieces of purple cabbage. The only thing that was passable was the bottle of soda and maybe the sauce. Never again. Cons: the food more

Big Disappointment 3/10/2009

After reading the reviews I took a group to try Giovannis out. We were sorely disappointed. Service was slow. Food was marginal. We were looking for a new experience and what we learned was stick with what we know. Don't waste your money or time here. more

Not bad, but nothing special 4/26/2008

I ordered a three-meat pizza from Giovanni's for take-out after reading the rave reviews, but was somewhat let down. The pizza was certainly large, and the crust was thick, making for a filling meal, but the flavor was lacking. The beef and sausage were almost indistinguishable from one another, the sauce was non-existent, and the cheese was flavorless. Pros: Free parking, Very filling Cons: Not open late, no delivery, mediocre food, slightly expensive more

Best Pizza in the Area. 2/11/2007

This place has awesome Pizza, Only other Pizza that Compares is Nonna Emilia's in Aloha, Pros: Best Pizza and Italian food in town, Call Ahead and order TO-GO Cons: If you want Ambience this is not the place, if you want good food this is it. more

I LIKED IT! 9/22/2006

Went there in August 2006 for lunch. The place was pretty empty. More people getting take-out than eating in. It was also pretty outdated but that was okay-just more casual-like a pizza place, not an itailian resurant. The service was friendly and fast. Started with salad which was...plain, but fresh. I had the lasagna which I loved and will have to go back for. My sister had the pesto pasta which she thought was really good but not great. Place was clean. I liked it. I thought it was refreshing to go to a place that didn't try to be something they're not. Pros: clean, casual, lasagna Cons: plain, outdated more

I don't know about this place. 9/9/2006

The service was good. The decor, come on it is a low priced restaurant. I would say it is better than a bunch of cheez set pieces like at the chain restaurants. The sauce tasted like green peppers which was more reminiscent of that served at a Baptist Church pasta dinner than what I'm used too. Did I mention that I grew up in St. Louis eating good Italian food. more

Best Italian food in portland 7/1/2006

This place has been around a long time. The pizza is awsome lots of sauce ,cheese and the toppings are piled high. The meat sauce is also very good. My personal faviorite is the Lasagna, Its some of the best lasagna around. Dont miss this one. Pros: All the food more

Good food, bad service 3/9/2004

My wife and I have been to Giovanni's many times. We really like the food, and the atmosphere is cheezily pleasant. But, we've stopped going there because of the service. The last 3 or 4 times we've been there, we've had to wait more than 30 minutes just to place our order. Nobody seems to care that we are just sitting there, waiting to order. And what's odd is that we normally eat at odd times, when there is nobody else in the restaurant. After finally ordering, getting the food seems to take forever as well. Granted, the food is good, but for us, the wait isn't worth it. Pros: Good food Cons: , Long waits more

Big Night Wannabe 10/6/2003

This once-solid staple of Beaverton dining is hanging onto past glories, but is on the downward spiral toward ""mall food"". Refusing to let go myself, I keep going back in vain. You can only hope that the dated, plain decor belies hidden gems coming from the kitchen. Or that maybe there's a table of ""distinguished Italian gentlemen"" dining in the back who know something you don't. It's neither. The pizza, not deep-dish mind you, is bready, and good luck searching for cheese or sauce. While the sauce shows hope, I can only assume the mushy pasta is coming from a steam tray. Boxed wine and iceberg lettuce salads just complete the picture show you that Giovanni's has given up. The one culinary redemption is a homemade chicken soup that you'll cry for when you have a cold. Otherwise, head to Sbarro's. more

Yummy Food 6/15/2003

The decor leaves a lot to be desired, however the food is great! It's a bit spendy but you usually get to have leftovers the next day. One of our favorite places for italian munchies! Kudos to Giovanni's Restaurant Pros: Giid Food, casual Cons: expensive, decor more

Romantic?? Not so much... 4/1/2003

The food was pretty good and the portions were large. However, I'm surprised this was deemed a ""romantic"" spot. The atmosphere was definitely ""basic Italian DINER"" -- there was nothing romantic about it. (unless fake hanging plants and vinyl booths do it for you....). Also... I'd say the service was fair, at best.... We were seated promptly then had to wait for extended periods for everything after that... We got there just before the dinner rush so maybe they weren't ready for our group of 4. We're willing to give it ONE more try, just to be sure we didn't get there on an off night.... Pros: food quantity, food taste/quality, value Cons: service, atmosphere more
