Editorial review from Citysearch 4/1/2014

Have been coming here since Dr. Gorman took over. It is now called ""Folsom Hills Dental"". He and his staff are great! Very friendly office and they make you feel safe and comfortable. Anne did a great job on my whiting (Zoom) and Mansi is so gentle when cleaning my teeth. Dr. Gorman is always kind and fun to be around. Sometimes he will even sing a song while working on you. For a dental coward like me, that is a nice touch. \r \r Only had one bad dental tech named Josh but Dr. Gorman said he would make sure that never happens again.\r \r They make it easy to afford dental work and will work with your budget to get you the care you need. These guys really are the best!!\r \r My partner and I will keep coming here!\r more

Dr. Gorman = Awesome! 10/20/2011

I've never been a fan of going to the dentist, but I liked Dr. Gorman so much, that I followed him to Folsom when he recently took over this practice after moving from a previous office in Citrus Heights. I can't speak for the other dentists at Gateway Dental, as I haven't met them, but I highly recommend Dr. Gorman and his staff to anyone who wants to feel good about their teeth and the people who take care of them!\r \r I could not speak highly enough about Dr. Gorman. His bedside (chair-side?) manner is impeccable; he is friendly, caring and quite funny. He is able to explain in detail what may be affecting your teeth without going over your head, and he has great recommendations on how to improve your dental health.\r \r The dental hygienists that I worked with were professional, efficient and cordial. Frank did a great job taking my X-rays, making sure I was comfortable during the entire process and showing me how everything worked as he did it. Nili, who cleaned my teeth, made an exp more

very very bad service! 8/31/2011

My front tooth broke and I could hardly talk, and I went to this office for an advice. The dentist was leaving but he quickly made a decision to stay and give me the treatment since he saw me as an opportunity of making a quick cash. I got the bridge done, spent few days in a horrible pain and in a few months, a blister showed up on the gum right above the crown because the tooth underneath the crown had died and caused the infection. I went back to the clinic and asked them to give me the treatment for free because I believed it was their responsibility to take care the problem and they did not, they asked me to pay more more more... after spending thousands of dollars on the horrible service. more

Worst Dental Experience Ever 5/25/2011

I normally do not write reviews. This is an exception because the treatment and attitude is so poor. I went to Gateway Dental Group to have a tooth filled and for a teeth cleaning. I got neither. Instead I waited for thirty minutes before I saw a technician. The technician was kind and knowledgeable, but it soon became apparent that Gateway sees its patients as cash cows. After two and one half hours in the office I was told that it would cost me over $13,000 even with insurance to correct "dental problems". Notwithstanding a sign outside that advertised a $39.00 teeth cleaning and examination, I was told that it woule cost me $435.00 per "quadrant" to have my teeth cleaned, again with insurance!. I asked to consider their proposal but requested to have my tooth filled. They said I would have to wait. They never got to it. The dentist, who had graduated in 2007 was too busy to fill the tooth. I left. The office manager then called and suggested that I come back for a free filling. The office then changed my appointment from 3:45 p.m. to an early morning 8:00 a.m. appointment. I arrived promptly before 8:00 a.m. Again, no dentist. After waiting for the dentist, I was ushered into the dentist's office only to be told that the dentist had not arrived yet. I have never experienced such a lack of professionalism in any office. I was then told that because I had complained about the office's tawdry practices and lack of concern for the patient's time that the dentist would not want to fill my tooth. In the end I waisted more than four hours and got no service and only a cost estimate that was outrageous. I am going to complain to the licensing board. I also subscribe to the opinion that this office is bent on the "get rich quick" business philosophy. Don't waste your precious time on this crowd.. They out to be shut down. more

Will Never Set Foot in This Office Again 3/10/2011

My belief is that this is a "get rich quick" dental office. The "Crowns in a Day" machine should have been a giveaway. If you walk into the office they will try to sell you at least $1000 worth of unneeded (in my opinion) services. After four hours and two attempted crown creations, I left with a crown that has a gap underneath and cement leaking between the teeth. The dentist was the roughest and least compassionate I've had in my life. His bedside manner came across as "It's going to hurt, so sit back and take it as I shove the needle in your gums." (over and over and over) more

Horrible! 2/2/2011

Gave them a second chance, because they are covered by our DHMO. Never again--waited an hour and never even got checked in. It is worth it to pay out-of-pocket for their competition. more

Worst Experience at the Dentist Ever 5/7/2010

I mean, this place made the place I got braces at seem like Heaven. So my day starts with the receptionist telling me that my insurance can't identify me and won't cover me. I say that's impossible so she gets on the phone with them and finds that Gateway has my information wrong. I blow it off thinking, oh well, easy mistake. Well, after spending 4 hours at the dentist and shelling out almost $400 for an "onlay" I'm not exactly sure I even needed, I'm a little ticked and feel like this whole visit was a mistake. Come to find out, this happens a lot. At first, I had read good reviews of Gateway Dental and that is why I had opted to visit them. Well, too bad I didn't find this site sooner. Probably could have saved some money. They try to upsell you on all different things from advanced cleanings, crowns, fillings for teeth that might not even have cavities, etc. They told me I had all sorts of issues with deep pockets between teeth and grooves in my teeth that my previous dentist had n more

The Worst Experience I've Ever Had! 3/23/2010

I would never recommend this place to anyone. They have done work for both my husband and I. The crowns that my husband had put on both broke off and had to be replaced. And when I was getting work done I started to get sick from the Novocaine so I almost left -- they hurried to proceed on replacing my tooth BEFORE the Novocaine was working and it HURT like crazy, and they balked at me as I told them how bad it hurt! Rude, terrible bedside manner and faulty work! I have never been nervous to go to the dentist- now I'm petrified to go back! more

terrible experience at Gateway Dental 2/26/2010

I spent more time waiting to see someone than I did in the examine or cleaning. The staff shuffled me around during my initial visit, most of which I spent alone waiting - well over 2 hours!!!! I don't think I spent even 5 minutes with the hygenist. I left the office with any uneasy feeling about the lack of dental service/care I just received. After calling the office manager I was met with her two choices: 1. Come back in and see another dentist there OR 2. Call it a wash and sever my ties with them - both her suggestions!!!!!!! Zero customer service - would NOT recommend this dental office. Pros: none Cons: poor service, poor quality and EXPENSIVE more

My (short) experience... 1/21/2010

My first (introductory) visit last fall: After zillion X-rays (high technology - all computers) the dentist advised to replace one of the bridges. (This bridge was marked to 'monitor' by my previous dentist a couple of months earlier.) I assumed that it really has to be done. After expecting an appointment for the bridge work, they said that they can start right away. (This was the first warning sign.) Since - like most people - I am a bit weary of dental procedures, I thought, I was lucky, they had a cancellation and I thought that let's get over with it - the sooner, the better. Then they gave a sales presentation (on a computer monitor, installed at the dentist chair) about different bridges/materials. (Like "this is the cheapest, but wait, there is a better one!" And, of course, there was a better one until the computer presentation got to the last page: "space age technology, last forever, last bridge you ever need", etc.) Sitting in the chair, wishing to get over with this whole more

The dentist turns every simple filling into a crown. The front desk is very rude and lie deliberately. I would not recommend this office to anyone. more

Gateway Dental Group drills a hole in your wallet 12/19/2009

This place is a big scam. A simple filling turns into a crown treatment. The front office is rude. I do NOT recommend at all. more

Watch your wallet is right 9/14/2009

I am not surprised to read the other reviews. Everyone I spoke with was very nice, but I felt like I was buying a car not going to get my teeth cleaned. They also took way to may xrays. I was so disgusted with the long wait and the upselling that I switched to a new dentist. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone I know! more

Would not recommend this office to anyone 8/13/2009

Poor Quality work, Rude service. Misleading. I would recommend that you research this place before having any work done, I have found that they have a record of this. Pros: Receptionist is nice Cons: Poor quality work more

Woods Michael - Gateway Dental Group Folsom 7/29/2009

The dentist was good. It was nice to have your own room. The hygienist's work was very bad and unsatisfactory. The front office was very bad. They use a lot of creative accounting and treat you as if they are doing you a favor and not as if you are paying to be treated. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Sorry! more

Think three times before going there.... 1/21/2009

I have been seen by several dentists in this office over the course of a year. The office itself is very modern and the receptionists and x-ray technicians were always nice but watch out for the dentists. They do very poor work, 2 of them in particular are not thorough and then when I questioned some of the decisions they had made about my dental care they were defensive and condescending. If you search around you will find many complaints made against this particular office. Pros: digital xrays, convenient location Cons: long wait, problems with actual dental work and no compassion or resolution more

Think twice before going there..... 12/31/2008

I recently had to goto a dentist, I had a filling that broke and I was in pain. So I looked up the closest dentist to me that took my coverage and found Gateway Dental. When I got there they were very nice during the whole process. But when I kept asking what my insurance covered, I could not get a straight answer... After they were done drilling away the bad parts, hardly any tooth left. The dentist then gave me the prices on crowns (again still in pain), which ranged from $500 metal/porcelain, $650 gold/porcelain and $1100 full porcelain (stupid me took his word). I didn?t want any metal crowns (FYI: metal isn?t good for your gums or teeth unless it?s gold), so my only choice was a full Porcelain crown at $1100 (or so the dentist told me). When I was still undecided because of the cost, he suggested a Partial Crown called an overlay to save me money - $750 my cost over what my insurance covered (again what the dentist told me)... So I went with the overlay to save me money. The receptionist came in and went over ONLY the cost of the work would be. She quickly had me initial for the COST of the work ONLY she said before they got started. So I did and they did the work. Now, when I took a look at the receipt when I got home, I saw a basic coverage under what I paid, which showed a metal/porcelain $50 not $500(which was the price given) and no coverage for an overlay. So I called the insurance company and found out that ALL the crowns were covered for $50+$150 upgrade for a molar ($200 total). When I called the office to try and get an answer as to why they MIGHT not have told me the truth about the costs, they told me the overlay was better than the other crowns and it was too late I already signed for the work, sorry. I asked why would I pay $550 extra per tooth... they wouldn't tell me and said it was my fault for not knowing. So if you decide to go there KNOW what exactly is covered (including Procedure codes) or they will take advantage... Pros: Nice Dentist Cons: Taking advantage of people who dont know exactly what your insurance covers.. more

Good dentists, but watch your wallet 9/18/2008

Very modern office, with digital imaging and records management. And so far, no complaints about the dentists themselves. But watch your wallet. I became suspicious when the dentist began talking to me like a used car salesman, way too friendly and chummy for someone I just met in a professional setting. Sure enough, when the time came to tell me I needed a crown, they brought out the sales kit and upsold me to a Lava crown. I didn't want to spend that much money, but they showed me that their regular rate is $2400 and because of my insurance, they'd give it to me for $1150. After I started treatment, contract having been signed (i.e., too late) I decided to check around, and found out that the average cost for that crown with NO INSURANCE is $1100 installed. I called to complain, and they went through a very elaborate post-sale pitch which essentially was that my insurance didn't pay for anything on this treatment. So I paid the same price I would have paid without insu more
