Its very obvious that the individuals wirting these reviews complaining about a 30 dollar facility improvement fee not only have little to no training in law but also don't have much common sense.\r
\r
First off, we will start with the common sense part. French Riviera has the most gyms in Memphis and sports a 24 hour facility. Unlike other gyms all memberships are unrestricted meaning you can use all facilities at any time with all the memberships. Classes are included, childcare and tanning are availiable, there is a pool and a sauna at a few locations, and also has a cardio movie theater. The flagship French Riviera gym on Poplar sports the largest selection of resistance and free weight training of any gym in memphis. \r
\r
I dare you to find a gym anywhere in the country that you can work out at with those ameneties for only 35 dollars a year. You would have to be an absolute fool to go to another gym and spend 15-30 dollars a month and fork over another enrollment fee.\r
\r
I do realize the concept of it might be disconserting...""Well if they create a 30 dollar fee they will just keep adding fees they will just keep hiking on us OMG!!!"". First off the Facility Improvement Fee was voted on by the members and passed with an overwhelming majority. People like having new fresh equipment to work on and gym improvements.\r
\r
Also if the fee ever raises to a point that is unnaceptable than take your buisness elsewhere....This is America people, we basically worship the concept of capitilism. If your un happy than just leave and pay alot more somewhere else ;).\r
\r
Now lets move on to the legality of the fee increase. I am a member of the gym and have personally read every part of the contract, unlike the people who posted some of the reviews here.\r
\r
The first loophole in the contract is that it states if you EVER move residences and don't notify French Riviera it nullifies the contract. That in and of itself doesn't mean the French Riviera can increase fees at will but it does make it near impossible to form a class action law suit because simply put the majority of members, especially life time members have at least moved once in about twenty years.\r
\r
Secondly it is an at will contract. Once the term on the membership expires we can ammend it, if the terms are unnaceptable you don't have to sign it. Thats why you renew every year, its another loophole in the contract.\r
\r
I know this sounds partially bad, but go to any gym in this country and the contracts are structured very similiar.......\r
\r
Business is business people, companies are out to make money. But if your only having to pay 35 dollars a year for the best gym in memphis capitilism says you stick with it.\r
\r
I guess we have to realize some people don't have much sense...
Pros: Great classes, helpfull staff, great pricing.
Cons: Not open 24 hours on the weekend
