Terrible event and organization 7/4/2013

I had a similar experience with Weekend Aloft. We drove down from Charlotte only to be denied admission to the park because we had dslr cameras with detachable lenses. We sent a letter to the organizers requesting an explanation and they did not even bother to respond. We will not be attending this event in the future. more

FWA 2013-Simpsonville-Not worth the trip. 5/28/2013

Amateur photographers beware. 2013 Festival-came up from Charleston on Friday, hoping to get some good shots of the launch on Saturday morning, Saturday Evening and Sunday morning. We were planning on staying until Sunday, catching at least 3 launches. Got there at 7am Saturday, only to be turned away because they do not allow cameras with detachable lenses over 3" into the venue. Unless you have Media Credentials. Their (lame) excuse? The recent bombing at the Boston Marathon. So, I will take my $ elsewhere. more

avoid 4/17/2012

Beware. These comments are old. Fwa is in simpsonville now and sucks. It was great in 2007, wonderful in 2008...and then bilo took over. Food vendors left (except bilo and spinx), very few items to buy, and crappy concerts. No worry though...they are probably going to be kicked out of simpsonville next year because of a huge looming debt. they also up the price yearly. First it was free..then 5 dollars a person...then 10...now 12! For a family of 4 tthat's almost 50 bucks for entry! 5 for parking...and then food and ride prices. more

Freedom Weekend Aloft 1/2/2007

Freedom Weekend Aloft is a weekend long full of food, fun, music, faces, freebies, and sight-seeing. Held each Memorial Day Weekend, it's sponsored by GMC/Pontiac. You can buy souvenirs, ride hot air balloons (as this is what it is really about), listen to talented music acts, or much more. One time Charles Daniels Band came. It's so neat. I love going each year! Call them and they'll send you a bulletin of events, at least they did for me. more

Entertainment Excellence 12/7/2005

Freedom Weekend Aloft is an awesome weekend full of food, fun, music and of course hot air balloons. Seeing all the hot air balloons is reason enough to attend although weather conditions can down them so check before you go. There are plenty of tents with food and games. You can buy as many souvenirs as you wish. They always book a talented musical act. Very much worth the drive! more

Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival 8/19/2005

Freedom Weekend Aloft is an annual hot air balloon festival that takes place over Memorial Day weekend in Anderson at the Civic Center. The festival provides hot air balloon rides, food, music, and shopping. The festival, sponsored by GMC/Pontiac, usually attracts fairly popular national recording artists, such as Ryan Cabrera, Gavin Degraw and the Charlie Daniels Band. I think that it's the event of the year for Anderson. more

Memorial Day annual celebration 8/18/2005

Don't miss this.. it's a great activity for Memorial Day weekend every year! Every year, 100 hot air balloons compete in a variety of competitive events and the visual spectacle is stunning. There are tethered balloon rides during the event but it is possible to arrange a real balloon ride with an independent operator after the event closes. Admission is free (including watching the balloons) but everything else costs, including parking. The event is used to raise money for local charities so it is definitely money well spent. Very family friendly, offers amusement rides, outdoor concerts and food. more
