Great Quality but Beware the Creepy Employees 7/8/2007

The art in this museum is exceptional. However, ditto to the first review, the employees fuse with your shadow, breathe down your throat, and inhibit you from having a positive viewing experience. If they would tell their employees to back off, the visit would be more worthwhile... more

Excellent` 4/4/2007

I love this museum of art. From the rotating displays to the permanent ones, each is tasteful and artfully displayed. They offer family days with projects for the kids to dabble in. They have free times occasionally, but fees for entry are very reasonable even at full price. Worth a stop! more

Beautiful Art 8/28/2006

This is a great little museum with world class art. It was so nice to get to look around without it being over crowded. We love that they have a free day, and that they offer a childrens program one day a week. I didn't love that the security tends to follow parents with kids around. We were "shadowed" by one our entire visit. We did nothing wrong, nor intended to, so it was unnerving to be followed like that. I know they are just looking after their art, but still. Otherwise, it was lovely. Our only other problem was parking, as you have to park in the student parking area. PROS: CONS: parking is difficult more

Don't miss the Weitzenhoffer Collection 7/9/2005

Fred Jones Museum is on the University of Oklahoma campus. It's not just for the campus community but for the entire city. They received the most important French Impressionism collection a few years ago. It is a wonderful exhibit - Weitzenhoffer Collection which offers Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir and other well known artists. Admission is around $5 for adults and I know they give a discount for children of a certain age and seniors. Parking is limited close to the museum but there is more parking near by.   • The University of Oklahoma's Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is one of the finest university art museums in the United States. Strengths of the nearly 17,000-object permanent collection (including the approx. 3,300-object Eugene B. Adkins Collection and the approx. 4,500-object James T. Bialac Native American Art Collection) are the Weitzenhoffer Collection of French Impressionism, 20th century American painting and sculpture, traditional and contemporary Native American art, art of the Southwest, ceramics, photography, contemporary art, Asian art and graphics from the 16th century to the present. Temporary exhibitions are mounted throughout the year that explore the art of various periods and cultures. Museum space also is available for weddings, presentations, and other special events!
