Easy favorite 3/2/2009

If you want fresh ""I can't believe this is vegetarian"" food then this is the place to go. I could spend a good three hours just shopping the aisles and learning about new and different foods and supplements. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and the restaurant is a must. They have my hands down favorite nachos and everything my husband and I have had there has been great. Easy to see why its a local favorite, never a disappointment. Pros: Fresh, organic, helps local farmers, great selection Cons: narrow aisles more

Tempting Selections 1/8/2009

They have lots of interesting vegetarian options, the food is always fresh and flavorful, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and the old fashioned feel of the place welcomes you in. I go there whenever I get a craving for their `Reuben?. My only grievance is that like most vegetarian places they have the best intensions of providing fresh healthy food, with organic ingredient, but they still didn?t figure out that Soy and Tofu is actually not that good for you. There are other, soy-less meat substitutes that are much better with less side effects. more

Great vegan/organic market 9/3/2008

All of the veggie and vegan products look really good. for being a small market they really do have a big selection. Cons: pricey more

so amazingly convenient! and delicious! 2/18/2008

I just moved walking distance to Follow Your Heart, and I must say, having a grocery store and a restaurant that caters to my vegan/vegetarian needs is a blessing!!! I recommend it to all my friends, and meet them there for lunch and dinner frequently! :) Pros: Nice employees, good food, great ambiance and convenient. Cons: that it's not open 24 hours a day! :) more

Southern California's best Vegetarian - but not just for vegetarians! 10/31/2007

This is the ONLY restaurant for which I will drive to the Valley. It's well worth the schlep! It's located in one of LA's first vegetarian health food stores so shop after you eat. The food is unreal! I'm not even a soup person, but their soup selection is awesome - changes daily - all made in house. Interesting flavors - they will give samples. Always a vegan and no-salt soup option as well. They have a fantastic and diverse menu. It's so hard to decide what to eat because everything is so good. Their fake-meats are spectacular. They have mexican, greek, indian, etc. dishes. There's usually a special - my usual choice! Breakfast and Sun Brunch are also fun. Great pancakes. Excellent coffee as well. The pies are also well-liked. We were surprised, but their Pizza is actually very impressive. Fri. night has pizza specials if you can handle the traffic.\r \r It's not fancy - very down to earth. Eat inside or on the patio. Food's not light, but sure is delicious - at least they use all natural products - no nasty preservatives and chemicals here. \r \r The store is also real cool. We stock up on the ""Chicken-Free-Chicken"" - I've never had anything like it. Put some bbq sauce on it, general tso's sauce, tandoori.... I like it better than chicken (I'm not one of those vegetarians that hates meat - stopped for health reasons and ethical reasons...I do miss meat -- but never at Follow Your Heart!). They make fantastic lunch dishes in the fridge section of the store - peanut curries, kung pao, and many others. Those are pretty cheap as well! \r \r Fun place to eat and shop, not just for vegetarians. Worth the drive! Pros: Top notch food - high quality, great variety, and natural. Fun, simple, & relaxed! Try some soup too. Cons: Have to drive to the valley. Build me one in Westwood! Tells you something if I'll brave the 405/101 to get there weekly! more

Great Brunch 6/18/2007

If I lived anywhere near Follow Your Heart, I'd be there at least once a week. As it is, I've been there about a dozen times over the last several years, and the food has always been great. Brunch is especially good here- I suggest the Mexican-inspired dishes (can't remember the names- I need to go back soon!) The patio is always a nice place to dine, and they even have water misters out there in the summer- it's hot in the valley! Pros: Great food! Cons: Patchouli scented more

The best veggie reubens ever! 1/28/2007

I don't live close to Follow Your Heart, but at least once a month I go there for lunch or dinner to have their delicious veggie reuben made with seitan. Then I buy all of the fixings at their grocery store and make them at home for the next week. (They sell Follow Your Heart recipe books that include the instructions.) Also don't miss their annual Thanksgiving feast the two days before Thanksgiving. It includes all of the usual favorites: turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, and sweet potatoes, but all vegan. It was so good this year, I could have wept! The mushroom gravy on the mashed potatoes was excellent, and since they were nearing closing time, the waitress was kind enough to give me a whole bowl full to go at no charge. It was really sweet of her, and so we left an extra nice tip! This place is extremely casual, and they don't serve alcohol. However, they have a full selection of teas, natural sodas, and coffee. Pros: Yummy food, fantastic variety, great prices Cons: Busy at lunch rush, understaffed, the parking lot gets crowded and clogged more

Good natural vegetarian food. 8/10/2006

Tasty vegeterian food..\r \r I've been going here for at least 15 years. Great food. Try the pumpkin pancakes when in season. Shakes are good too - I get the non-dairy peanut butter or date made extra thick. The Follow your heart burger is good. They always have good specials on the board too. The crowd is very eclectic. Relaxed atmosphere. more

Follow your stomach too! 4/9/2005

The cafe provides great food that shatters the ""sticks and twigs with tasteless tofu"" vegen stereotype with thoughtful, prompt service. The Spinach Lasagne is amazing, packed with fresh, crisp vegetables and a savory sauce. The Garden Salad is crisp and refreshing with any one of their tasty dressings. The grocery store itself, however is a bit pricey, especially when compared to the numerous specialty grocers in the valley, but well worth a look. One corner of the store has a delightful collection of gift items you might expect to find on Venice Beach or in Topanga Canyon. more

I left my Heart at Follow Your Heart! 6/12/2004

I highly recommend trying this great option for San Ferando Valley Vegetarians. I always bring my out of town friends/family there to try and broaden their notions about vegetarian dining. Pros: inexpensive, good parking, healthy Cons: , location, small more
