Best

Went there last night with a group of six and everything was absolutely fantastic! It was a Sunday night so it was a very chill atmosphere. We ordered a few appetizers which cam...

Worst

Love the atmosphere. The wait staff is rude and unproffesional. The food needs a lot of work. Too bad as the Valley could really use a class act. If they do not improve the atti...

We Walked Out 8/2/2005

Our party of 12 made a reservation for 8:30p.m. When we arrived, they had a reservation for 8 and a table for 8. We were told we could have another table when it opened up to accomodate the extra 4 people. One finally became availible, but we were told it was reserved and we could not take it. When the next table opened at 9:30p.m., we pulled it over to the large round table and sat down. The hostess informed us we would not be served until we separated the tables. We told her if we couldn't sit together and would leave. She refused to let us sit together so all 12 of us got up and left. We went to a lovely Italian restaurant just down the street where we were able to all sit together. Firefly lost a $400 bill and 12 people who will never visit again. Cons: Too dark to see menu, Unfriendly staff, Unaccomodating more

foodie oasis in the valley 7/29/2005

firefly continues to amaze me with a consistantly good product. The food is the best it has ever been, the mussels are amazing, my wife and I love the intimate & romatice atmosphere. We both love the warm and welcoming feel we get every time we come, we can not recommend more highly Pros: ambiance more

Cool Place I found 7/29/2005

I went to firefly with some people I work with in the studio for dinner....The first thing i noticed was the cool dressed valet's in their chuck taylors and dickies....seemed well thought out..Even though they were a little slow getting our car back to us..they were pretty good and looked professional....we sat in the bar area and had some drinks and then we sat in this cabana type seating that I had never seen before..that was unique and very comfortable.....the staff was very informal, but knew the wine and the food we had very well.....everything was really fresh and well prepared... I would for sure go back and plan on it very soon..thank you to the staff at firefly.....regina Pros: food, service, value Cons: no sign more

over the hill... 7/28/2005

It's not often that I make a trek over the hill to the valley but as my girlfriend keeps telling me- ""it's not the valley it's Studio City!"" and after my night out at Firefly I think she might be on to something. I had know idea that this place existed and was blown away from the moment I approached and saw the fleet of gray clad valets standing at attention- ""Am I in Cuba?"" Once inside I felt that I had been transported to another place and time. The classic feel of the bar & lounge with rich colors and plush sofas to the candle lighted patio. All this is great but to think the food is as good as it is pushed the whole experience over the top. Oh, and the people aren't too hard to look at either... but don't tell my girlfriend!! Pros: service, food, atmosphere Cons: no large parties, busy, there isn't one in my more

Worst dining experience EVER 7/21/2005

Rudest people in the service industry. Made reservation for group of 13, could not sit more than 8. Weren't allowed to join tables, or else were told to leave. Still were made to pay for drinks! Waitress took the ""not my job"" cop-out and manager has never heard the ""customer is always right"" mantra. Lady, it's not a cute saying, it's the heart of the service industry! Took our business elsewhere, they have no clue what they're doing. Pros: nothing, nada, zilch Cons: terrible service, rude, pretentious more

Highstrung management 7/21/2005

Serious this place is to be avoided at all costs. It is pretty bad when I asked the management a simple question, and she told me it was impossible because of ""policy"" and then continued to rant about it until I was the one calming her down. Menu is miniscule and service beyond terrible! DON'T GO!!!!! more

Still wonderful 6/23/2005

Been coming her for over 2 years. It continues to excel. Came for anniversary. We received the table I requested when I reserved. Food and service as phenomenal. Manager brought over complimentary champagne to go with our dessert. I was blown away by the fantastic service and attention to detail. Sit in the cabanas. Love the french fries. Some of the best I've ever had. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

i loved it 6/21/2005

your place was reccommended to us by people we work with and we came last week after setting a reservation...we were graciously sat on time and given a little snack of olives and carpaccio( which was awesome and free). we ate a lot of things off the menu and had a special fish as well. The food was amazing and creative...The patio with the fireplace set the mood of the place and we ended up staying all night and drinking some ice wine and getting sugared up with great dessert ( the peach Parfait)..I have nothing but good things to report. I think this is one of the best places in LA and for sure in the valley. more

BEWARE!!!! 5/10/2005

first called to make reservations for 9. the lady, who was RUDE as hell, said she can only do 8. asked if she could just check to see if they can accomodate, just said no and to find some other place. what kind business tells their customers to go somewhere else. Long story short, dropped one person to make eight. food was horrible, and so was the service (as expected.) its just sad to see that when a place gets busy and popular, their service goes down the toilet. would never recommend this place to anyone. food was nothing worth waiting for!!!!!!!!! more

Awesome Seasonal Food and Great Place to go 5/10/2005

I went for the first time the other night.. I am from New York and eat out often. I find the dining scene pretty boring in LA and was very surprised at the experience I had the other night when a friend brought me to Firefly.. From the cheeseplate with the oozing honeycomb and educated cheese choices to the mussels on the flat skillet to the monkfish I was pretty much blown away.. The prices were great the portions very fair and I would for sure take a date here..matter of fact this weekend....The service was informed and very laid back in the attitude department...The outside was very beautiful and I loved the varied music...We stayed late for a few more drinks and the people were gorgeous, not over dressed and relaxed in the comfortable lounge.. I would say if you have not gone-you should...thank you-Regina Pros: gorgeous plateware Cons: not my personal chef more

My Local 5/10/2005

I work in the neighborhood and am so happy to have Firefly as my local afterwork meeting place or just simply relax and grab a great bite to eat!! Great atmospere, Food & very friendly service from folk who make me feel welcome every time I visit. Oh, and they pour a great drink that's not hard to swallow when it's time to pay the bill!! Enjoy! more

food for thought 5/10/2005

I always enjoy myself at Firefly and I have been coming since way back when. Firefly put the 818 on the map for hot new spots and has continued to fulfill its duty as the father on the blvd. And I think the food has never been better. I sit at my desk sometimes and crave that apple salad. I never write reviews, but I was so offended that my local night spot, good food and all was being attack, I had to speak up. all in all, Firefly is a magical restaurant behind that ivy covered door. Pros: Ambiance, Staff, Food Cons: Limited Space, Smoking more

satisified 5/6/2005

firefly is a great addition to Studio City. The ambiance is relaxed, the food is good, the service is attentive. The door can be a little tight but they do a great job of weeding out the riff raff. What is there not to like. more

USED to be one of my favorites..... 5/5/2005

but now, after an owenership change it is NOT the Firefly my friends and I used to know and love. The music was terrilbe, suitable for the 45+ crowd, the new chef butchered the menu, which is now overpriced and just not good. Even the cheese platter (who knew any restaurant could screw that up) was almost unedilbe. In previous reviews other citysearch members ripped apart the staff for being rude, I never had a problem. Now however, the service was among the worst I have had (waiting 20 min for a glass of wine after we were sat.) they were rude, had no customer service skills and should have had both to make up for the bad music and menu. i will miss the OLD Firefly. Pros: Abience is still good Cons: New chef, Music, Service more

User review by askmeanything 4/18/2005

Wow, this place has gone from a great bar and restaurant to just a great place to have a drink. The food was very good when it first opened a couple years ago and now just passes as mediocre...I know they told me at one point they were working over the menu to focus on quality instead of quantity (funny as they only have a one-page menu) and it just didn't happen for them... Pros: fun bar scene more

Hip Studio City Scene 3/9/2005

This is a really nice place to go in the Valley. It's sort of hidden behind foliage and ivy, so watch for the valet stand, and on weekends, sometimes the line. The food is good but often secondary to the scene. Lots of good looking singles. I like the layout of the patio, but it can get smoky. The inside is nice as well and I like the sort of study-like look of the bar. Make reservations. more

Hollywood Scene in Studio City 1/17/2005

Great atmosphere and food! The menu is limited however the food is delicious and the ambiance can either be fun or romantic. The restaurant is mostly lit by dim lights and lots of candles but if you look hard enough, you'll spot a celeb. Dinner menu is available until 11pm and thereafter, they have a late-night menu. And the bar area has a cozy, library decor. Look for the ivy covered building or you'll definitely drive by it and yes, the bathrooms are unisex. Pros: Declicious food, Great Atmosphere, Open late night more

love this place 1/9/2005

Great food, good service (wow) and the best atmosphere. Ask to sit at a table with curtains... so nice and romantic. I will surely be back. Pros: good food, ambiance, service more

BLEW ME AWAY 12/14/2004

I gotta say, i live in Hollywood and this was the last place on earth I would've thougnt woud've impressed me. I came begrudgingly and left a fan. Not just a fan but a major fan. The service was some of the best I've ever had, knowledgeable but not only that, truly friendly. I had an Asian waitress who was so charming and friendly that she pretty much made the evening for the whole table. She better appreciate the big tip. I can't wait to go back the next time im over the hill, if fact, I may just go over the hill just to go to Firefly Pros: waitress, fireplace, good prices Cons: , turned into a party, busy more
