Ella Marie School of Dance

My daughter danced here for 10 years doing multiple classes. At first she loved it but then the favoritism of certain students in her classes took over. The teachers would focus mainly on these students, giving them featured roles in the recital and basically letting them take over the classes. The girls formed a clique that received the majority of the attention. This shouldn't happen in a dance school where everyone should be treated equally. more

Ella Maria Dance Studio has been and always will be the best dancing studio. My daughter has been dancing there since she was 24 months old! Not only is she learning and improving every week, she has made wonderful friends there too. I love watching her practice dancing what she learned at home. All the teachers and staff are professional and talented. I look forward to many more years!!! more

With all due respect, I don't think this dance school is all it's cracked-up to be. The skills of the dancers are not at a high level, and the few who are, are only in these higher level classes because they're in (and pay for) every class. A friend goes there, and she said in order to be moved up into a more challenging jazz class, you have to take tap or ballet. And my friend doesn't want to spend the money. Also, they have hundreds and hundreds of students, and it's comical because thier slogan is "Ella Marie: Where YOUR Child is the Star!" Please explain how with hundreds and hundreds of students, one child can be the star, and get the attention they need. The friend also said the director had no idea who she was. What kind of a dance school has so many people, that they don't know who anyone is? A dance school that's centered around profit. I'd much rather go to a dance school that makes you feel like a family, and where you actually KNOW EVERYONE you dance with, and become extremley close with everyone. I just don't like how they go around saying they're the "best dance school on Long Island," when there are MUCH more talented dancers on Long Island, at a much more advanced school, who are in the shadow to Ella Marie, just because hundreds of kids go there. Everyone on Long Island THINKS they're the best dance school on Long Island, but in reality, there's much better out there. They give thier dancers' simple, repetitive, and down-right boring coreography, and they also steal routines from my dance school, other dance schools, as well as WELL-KNOWN shows like So You Think You Can Dance. And yet, they still get the credit for "The Best Dance School on Long Island." Pathetic. more

I have been going for 12 years and it's always been great...until the past 2 years. Now, the teachers really need to get off their high horses and teach a class. They act like bitchy highschool girls and have their favorites and it's OBVIOUS and ridiculous. They put their favorites in the front and least favorites in the back. I feel like I'm in highschool and it ruins the dancing. Also, the staffs family gets special treatment. One of the owners daughtters gets ridiculous special treatment including student teaching below the required age and being in 'starlets' below the age....she's 9. She isn't even very good but anyway this is my final year do to the bs and many other people feel the same way.It's changed and I hate it the only teacher this doesn't apply to is ms. Cathy. The rest act like their 15. more

I am a 13 year old student at ella marie school of dance and i love every moment of it! you feel like such a professional, it ranges from being very strict to a lot of fun.i have danced there for 11 years and have loved every year in its own way, its always changing! Also the recital in june is always absolutely amazing!<3 more

Ella Marie is an okay dance studio if you are not too focused on dance. It is more of a dance for fun, social hour rather than a technique-learning dance school. I would recommend Ella Marie to people who want a little dance education or who want to have fun, not to people who have plans for being a dancer. If you are interested in becoming a great dancer you may want to go to a more professional studio, but if you are interested in dance for fun, you can have a lovely experience at Ella Marie. I attended Ella Marie for a long time and then I attended a more professional dance studio for two years. I'm sorry to say that I learned more in those two years than I learned at Ella Marie as a whole, but I had fun at both studios so it's your choice! more

ella marie school of dance is located one block south of the LIRR between broadway and jerusalem avenue. It is nice because they have their recitals held at hofstra playhouse each year. Each class meets for 45 minutes one time a week. They have been in business for more than forty years and also have dance supplies to purchase in their own little store. they have adult classes in tap and jazz also. more
