  • Dr. Golden received his BA from the University of Chicago in 1977 and received the first-ever pre-doctoral Master?s Degree in Ophthalmology awarded by that institution. His doctorate degree was awarded at Saint Louis University in 1984. He continued his training in St. Louis with internship and residency.

In 1991 he became interested in refractive surgery and took the first course on the then new ALK machine followed by a fellowship in Houston. The use of the microkeratome for flap making in Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty made it the precursor of modern-day Lasik. As one of the early pioneers in the making of flaps, he taught and proctored ophthalmologists in the technique of Lasik, nationally and internationally. He has been hired by a number of different laser companies to help them open laser centers around the United States because of his extensive experience and careful attention to detail. Additionally, he has been a medical director of laser centers in Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and Indianapolis.

Dr. Golden is a well known teacher of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and their staff. He has lectured at meetings such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery, American Academy of Optometry, American Optometric Association, American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators, EyeQuest, State of Washington Optometric Association, State of Wisconsin Optometric Association, and the International College of Surgeons. He gave monthly continuing education lectures to local eye doctors for many years.

Honors include board certification in Ophthalmology, Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons, The International College of Surgeons, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Golden also holds the role as director of the Division of Ophthalmology for the International College of Surgeons and is a Vice President of that organization. He has been the medical and surgical director of several laser centers and sits on the board of several eye care companies.

He has an extensive and broad experience in refractive surgery. In addition to his expertise in Laser Vision Correction, he has experience with Radial Keratotomy (RK), Astigmatic Keratotomy (AK), the placement of Intacs (Intracorneal ring) for the correction of low amounts of nearsightedness, Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) for the treatment of presbyopia and Phototherapeutic Keratectomy (PTK). He is frequently asked by eye doctors to perform their eye laser procedures.

Dr. Golden?s describes his practice philosophy as careful attention to detail and the care of each and every patient as if they were a member of his own family. He works hard not to have any patient wait for care in his office and believes in the importance of communication with primary care doctors.
