David Broadway Salon & Spa

I dont trust anyone with my hair because i have had many bad experiences. They either cut it too short or dye it the wrong color. I use to go to Kevin Charles here in Toledo before it closed up and that place was always nice. But after that I was never able to find a good salon. Ive tried everything from a booth rental stylist, to cheap salons, doing it my self, and David Broadway. I've been to David Broadway a few times and besides their expensive prices I have always had very good service. They always did my hair perfectly and even showed me how I could style my hair at home since I suck at doing so. But this last time I went their my stylist was some 23 year old girl. All I wanted was my dark brown hair to be a little lighter and she ended up dying it orange! this happened to me once before.... when I went to a Fiesta salon! I never would have thought this would happen at David Broadway....i mean i paid $90 for it! Now I dont know how I feel about continuing to go there and I have no idea if there are any other salons left in Toledo that are worth my business. Oh, and I agree with everyone else about how the workers act like they are better then everyone else. more

I went to David Broadway to get my hair colored red. They did not even have hair"Swatches' to choose color from-only pictures in a book. The woman who worked on me ended up dying my hair brown as opposed to red. When I saw it after it was dried, I was extremely disappointed. I told the stylist when she asked me what I thought. She was very nice in offering to redo it the next day, etc. I ended up paying for the service, gave her a nice tip and immediately went to a different salon. They did a gorgeous job and the stylist was wonderful. The place I ended up going to was Reve. I will not return to David Broadway again. In addition, I am in total agreement with the comments about the staff being snobby and above everyone. After all, it is hair styling-not brain surgery they are doing.In NYC they would be laughed at (I am originally from there so I speak with some degree of knowledge). It is also very noticeable that they are hurting for clients as barely anyone is in their parking lot anymore-people are sick of being riipped off... As a long time customer, I'm used to paying a premium price for service and atmosphere that has usually lived up to expectations. However, in the last 12-18 months the atmosphere is suffering. The carpets at the entry are worn to the point of nasty, the spa area carpet squares are peeling up and the general appearance is just all-over "worn out" looking. The service is slipping along with the facade. When you call, expect to be put on hold, yet if you are in the salon, you can see 3 people at the front desk area just standing around talking. I'd suggest they get rid of the "greeter" and put that person behind the check out desk. Let customers check in and out at one location. I understand the salon is managed by an out-of-town business partner. That could be the problem. Come on David! Give us back the old Grand Salon! I have read these reviews...good and bad...I just moved to the area and have been going to a salon in my area. The girl I went to was very nice but I never felt that the outcome really reflected what I paid for it. I have naturally curly hair and really need someone that specializes in my hair type and the ability to color it well. I have heard things about David Broadway, good and bad. Other than David, can anyone advise me on other options as well? Thank you! more

I moved to Columbus about 2 years ago and I REALLY MISS David Broadway! As, I read some of the other reviews I could not believe some of the things written, especially about being judged by the staff...that is ludicrous! When I lived in the area and was a client there I was about 25- every time I went in everyone was very polite and NEVER pushed me to buy product I couldn't afford and I never felt like I was being judged. Most importantly my hair always looked fabulous when I left, they know how to cut and color for your specific hair type! I live in a much larger city now with more options, but nothing as good as DB! Also, a lot of salons promote the stylist because of the amount of product they sell, DB does it based on classes they take and training done- So you are paying more for someone with more experience (not someone who sold the most shampoo), but whatever level of stylist you get you are sure to get a great cut! loved this salon. I was referred here, and was somewhat nervous as I have been seeing the same stylist elseswhere for 8 years. Anyway, I went in looking for a change, and I got exactly what I wanted. Service was quick and friendly, the staff was very nice, and they fit me in for a brow appointment on the spot, on a Saturday. I will be going back. I used to live in Toledo and have moved to New York City 2 years ago. While in Toledo I always got my hair cut at David Broadway Salon. I always had a good experience. The cuts were always what I wanted and asked for, the staff friendly and knowledgeable. No one ever treated me with disrespect. The prices are reasonable as well. For those complaining about the cost and or rudeness you should come and check out Manhattan salons!!!! And for those commenting that only beautiful model types get hired: My stylist was maybe a little on the heavy side and for sure not a "super model" but always well put together and an inspiration. You can't blame a business like this to not want to have frumpy people around. I wish I had a salon like this nearby now!!!!!! I have been coming to DB salon for a long time and love it. The salon is absolutely beautiful and everyone I ever worked with has been super friendly and competent. I usually get Highlights and the color department does a fantastic job. My hair is straight and fine and I always feel like a million bucks when I come home. I have also had manicures, pedicures and other spa services. I have never been treated rude or pushed into services I did not want. The staff has always been friendly and professional. David is an absolute doll and always takes the time to say hello in person. I know that a lot of the people that work there constantly go through more training and take classes to improve their skills. They have won a lot of awards and you don't just get those handed for nothing! I can only highly recommend this salon to anyone. I asked the girl for a trim. I wanted to keep my hair long. I told her to take off an inch, and the dead ends. She started cutting my wavy hair WET. She started cutting and I knew she took off more than an inch. She took off like 4 inches. SHe didn't realize that when you cut WET hair, it becomes shorter especially with wavy hair. Then she layered it too much in the front and I came out with a drastically different haircut. I just wanted my hair to be shaped up, but the stylist was too busy chatting with me to pay attention to her work. Then they tried to push another appointment and a product I didn't want on me. There is no way I'm ever going back or recommending this salon to any of my friends. Then, when I called and complained, the manager just offered for me to come in for a consultation. I didn't want a consultation or these people touching my hair ever again. I should have been offered a refund or free products but instead they wanted more of my time, and as a busy person, I didn't have time to give. So I just told her to forget it, to which the manager merely responded, "Are you sure? I feel bad!" And the matter was forgotten. I don't recommend ANYONE going to this salon. It is supposed to be a ritzy salon, but it's just low quality haircuts in an ambiance or decor that don't reflect the salon's inflated prices. The reception area was nice, but the haircut I got was really mediocre. She didn't know how to dry my naturally curly hair, and it came out in a huge frizzy mess. I told her that it was bigger than I usually like my hair, and she went over it with a flat iron with no improvement. I had requested somebody that can work with curly hair when I made my appointment. Usually I can go to a salon and leave with sleek straight hair. When I left, I was pressured to make another appointment and the price was pretty high, especially for the bad styling. My colleagues had good experiences, but I felt it was over priced and pushy. I took the recommendation of a coworker to go to David Broadway. I spent $50some dollars to have less than an inch of hair cut off and to deal with rude, pushy staff members for the whole half hour I was there. I was told at another salon that she had been interviewed at D.B. by the owner and that unless you're gorgeous, you basically don't get hired. I tried to put that image away and went to my appointment anyway. Although I am younger and make more than the majority of the people I saw in there, I was still being judged like I was not good enough for them to be in there. They are fake, rude and try to push you into buying and booking more appointments. I would never go back. I prefer salons with friendly staff who don't roll their eyes at their clients.
