Cool River Cafe - Dallas

I try to visit cool river when i have business clients in town and it never dissapoints. The steaks rock and the cigar lounge, a dying breed in most states, is a hit with the boys. I also have California clients that love the big wine list. I think they have been there 10 years and its almost like it getting better! Pros: Food is great, cigar lounge baby!!!! more

Had a great banquet for my clients and we were able to give an informative presentation followed up by a fantastic meal. We were impressed by their great $99 wines by the time menu. Where can you get Silver Oak for so cheap? I was able to entertain my guest and not use up my budget. I look forward to having another event at Cool River Cafe. I love the bar in this place. The cigar lounge is comfortable and classy and they have 10 different fuente opus selections. 35 beers on tap, big wine list, and football is awesome on the big screen! Pros: HD screen, Lots of beer on tap, cool cigar lounge more

Everytime I'm in town I go to Cool River. The food and service are always the same. Excellent! The bar is cool and they have live music on the weekends. There is a bartender there that always remembers my name and what I drink. That goes a long way. Pros: Great food, Lots of options more

These guys do everything right. The staff is friendly and good looking. The fine dining service was on point. The filet was unreal. We went to the bar after dinner and watched the Rangers on the HD bigscreen. It was better than being at the game! We will be back. I met a few friends for cocktails in the bar and WOW! I had never been here before and was blown away. We traveled back to the dining room for dinner. It is really a country away from the bar. Excellent dining room with dark woods, white table cloths and dim lit. My friends had recommended we try the tuna appetizer and we were not dissappointed. The seared tuna had a nice lemon wasabi sauce, a hoisin made with Meyer's rum and a wasabi slaw with jicama, apple and daicon. The waiter had mentioned a steak feature that I wished I ordered. My date did order the steak oscar and gave me a bite. The crab and bernaise smothered over the steak was melt in your mouth. I was not disappointed with the Chilean sea bass, I shared, and we both liked the light sweetness from the Frangelico sauce. Dessert had us sharing a bourbon pecan bread pudding. It was more than we could handle. The sauce was great and I was glad to see the absence of raisins in a bread pudding. The service was really polished and timely. Our waiter made a great choice for wine but the wine steward was slow getting to the table. \r \r We went back to the bar for a cool band from San Antonio named Chris Boss and the Fuss. It was a three piece band that was heavy on the Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimmy Hendricks influence. They Rocked! I was plesantly surprised by this evening being able to have a great meal and be entertained under one roof. I'll be bringing the guys from the office back to enjoy the cigar room at a later date. This destination can be skipped. Perhaps the worst (so called fine dining) experience I?ve ever had. We started with reservations for 5 celebrating 2 birthdays. We sat down immediately and seemed to be off to a good start. Ambiance is great. Drinks arrived and after 10 minutes the waiter was walking by and I inquired as to where the restrooms were located. He said, ""Oh I was going to begin taking orders , I can just come back in 10 minutes."" Naturally I quickly sat down and said, ""By all means lets order now."" So he then proceeded to walk to the opposite end of the table and take orders from the men. Salads were served without dressing and after a request for croutons was made a delivery of 2 individual croutons came out plated. The men were once again served first and 6 minutes later the women's dishes were delivered. The birthday boy's venison was overcooked and the manager merely made excuses. If it wasn't for the sports bar and late night live music afterwards the night would have been a wash. We have no intentions of returning. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Food more

The Cool River sports bar is probably better off serving bar food than expensive steaks which are below par. The wine list is extremely pricey and the restaurant caters to the people who have money to spend but not on quality.\r Service was bad and the waitresses have no knowledge about wines and yet they serve wines that go from 50-700 and probably more.\r I had ordered the ahi seared tuna that was average and came with a thick sweet sauce that seemed like teriyaki. \r Overall the place is too expensive, loud, below par food, expensive wine and bad service. if you want to have a beer, pick up women and watch sports then it is probably a good place to visit. more

This is the only upscale restaurant I could find in the area, and it does not disappoint. The seared tuna is wonderful, and be sure to order the III Forks Salad with your meal. Unless you want to attend the meat-market on the right side of the restaurant (with loud music, TV's, and LOTS of smoke), be sure to make reservations on the left side. It's lovely, upscale, classy ... you'll never have to see the ""other side."" But, if you're looking to meet a guy over some drinks and appetizers, you may want to go to the other side. Great service, great atmosphere, fabulous food. Take your girlfriend here if you want to make a good impression. Highly recommended Pros: Fabulous menu, service, and ambience Cons: Pricey.
