I moved to Memphis last year from Washington DC and did not know what to expect from stylists in the South. Being bi-racial and maintaining a short, naturally curly style, I had a really difficult time finding a happy medium. I usually avoid African-American owned salons as they always want to perm my hair and often don't know how to manage my natural curls. The problem that I encounter with Caucasian owned salons though is that they often get overwhelmed with my tight curls. I went to about three different salons in Memphis and they butchered me. Finally, I came across Cloud 9 and have found my hair heaven! Rebecca is so fantastic with short cuts and Angela understands bi-racial hair so the two of them together work wonders on my style. And I love the Brazilian Keritan Treatments (pricey but worth it) and the LSB hair putty - it makes my hair super, super shiny. I will never og anywhere else as long as I am in Memphis. Being a newcomer to the city of Memphis I have been looking for a while to find a place where I could go get my hair cut. I have been looking since right after Christmas and have had one bad experience with a salon WHOM I WILL NOT NAME. I ran across a matchbook with their phone number on it and gave them a call seing as how there was no way in hell i was going back to the last place I had the DISSpleasure of going to. When i called the first time I didn't recieve an answer, but i waited about fifteen minutes and gave it a second try and Andrea (can't remember if that's correct) answered the phone and was MORE than polite, and willing to scedule me an appointment. I told her I could be there in fifteen minutes and she said I was on the books and could come on in. when I got there I was greeted warmly by the girl behind the counter and was aked to take a seat seeing as how i was early and the stylist was busy with her previous client. I waited about fifve or six minutes and was then taken to the chair and COMPLETELY catered to. The stylist (lambeth) asked me what I wanted to have done and followed the directions TO A TEE! "And that aint easy given my untold amount of COW LICKS! LOL" i told her about my previous experience I had had with the other salon and was assured that I was not the first to have a bad experience. She kept the conversation flowing and made me completely comfortable wile in the shop. WHICH WAS VERY CLEAN AND WELL DECORATED! Very rarely do you find both in the same location LOL! After she finished I paid the "gal" behind the counter and was on my way. Getting out of the parking lot was a little tough, but given the professional service I recieved in the shop I did not mind. I would recomend this shop a million times over and would let anyone who is in the area know that Lambeth does a great job! I called at about 4:15 on a Saturday afternoon and she was able to work me in. Then, I got there and had no idea what I wanted. She was able to create a look that I love and I get constant compliments!!! And, I had fun the whole time I was there. What a great place!!!!! Pros: It was all great!!! more

WAY OVER-RATED!!! I found this salon on here on city search, and read how fabulous it is. My experience, however tells a different story. The woman who answered the phone was abrasive from the beginning. I asked for Amber who I read so many reviews about, and was told she no longer worked there, but they would "take care of me". I fell for it and made an appointment. Forget the parking, the service was lacking. The owner seemed rude and scary. It was dark and desolate, and I didn't feel like we were on the same page! well I should have spoke up, because I paid 200 bucks for an uneven boring haircut, and bleached out highlights. what a nightmare. Trust ME! You don't want to waste your money or time here!!!!! Pros: easy midtown location Cons: terrible customer service. bad hair outcome. terrrible hours. scary location more

I went here to get my hair cut and colored before my wedding and Rebecca did such a wonderful job that I've been singing her praises ever since. She discusses what you want the moment you sit down in her chair and she actually listens and knows what I mean when I say "NOT PLATINUM BLONDE!" My haircut was also so perfect. She fixed what another girl messed up and I looked like a million bucks on my wedding day. Can't wait for her to make me beautiful again! My haircut was a little less than a year ago. I was new to the city and recommended by a friend to see the owner (I think it was Rebecca) at Cloud 9. The reviews online were great so I thought I'd give it a try. Her client scheduled before me came late (after I was already there) and work with that client first, so I wasn't started until 45 mins after my scheduled appointment. I have a lot of patience so I wasn't upset when it was finally my turn. Unfortuately my experience only got worse. She would ask me questions about my hair then cut me off before I could answer. She ignored anything I told her only later to imply that she should have listened. While cutting my hair she was very rude to her front desk worker. I've never seen anyone treat an employee like that in front of customers. After she had finished my hair looked aweful. My layers were very uneven and blotchy. It was the worse haircut I've ever had. It's the only time I can remember ever leaving a hair salon unhappy. for all my cyber friends, i wanted to share with you a wonderful experience that has made my confidence soar. my new beauty secret is Amber at Cloud 9. A friend refered her to me. The end result was amazing, I almost didn't recognize myself, and it took a little getting used to my update, but wow. My husband says it's the best my hair has ever looked, and my friends compliment me now. She colored my eyebrows and waxed them, which gave me a mini face lift. I never had anyone cut my hair like she did. It now has so much texture, and makes my job styling it so much easier. Thank heavens. She is a perfectionist, and she took her time with me, unlike other stylists who rush through my appointment and leave me disappointed and confused. I'm so pleased. i have to admit, i was a bit nervous, but had many friends refer Amber to me at Cloud 9. She took the time to actually consult with me and discuss what i didn't like about my hair. i had just lost my stylist of many years because she moved out of town, so i was okay with the way it was, but i definitely wasn't getting compliments. Until Now. I'm blown away. Amber gave me more than I was looking for. She cuts hair wet then texturizes it when it's dry, which really helped me have more of a style with texture, rather than a cut, and my color looks like something that slipped off a celebrity's head. Amber took her time with me, and that, I absolutely appreciated. She customized my haircut and color, and now all i get is compliments more

I have short hair and I always have a tough time finding good hairstylists when I move to new places. This place is a total dissapointment. I dont believe I went and got a haircut at this place. It was one of the worst haicut I have got so far and the most expensive one!!! And the end result was really dissapointing. Take my opinion and choose another place. Cons: Expensive and slow. more

I spent the day at Cloud Nine getting everything done as a gift from my Husband. AMBER cut and highlighted my hair....I was ready for a change. Well Amber did it for me and did a FANTASTIC job. I just LOVE it. Courtney did my manicure and pedicure.....wow what a treat not to be rushed through.......and also a FANTASTIC job! I also got a massage, facial and spray tan. Not only do I look like a NEW WOMAN I feel like one too.... All the service was great they are all so friendly they make you feel right at home. I couldnt think of a better way to spend my day or a better group of people to spend it with. Definitely a place I will be glad to go back too. Amber anwered the phone when i called cloud nine one day and made me feel like I was going to get a great service when I went in to this new Salon. Well I did indeed. I had heard she was an "Artist of Hair design" from a friend, and my girlfriend was correct. My entire time with Amber was what I call a "Wow!" She made me feel like a million dollar's, and I left looking like she said I would on the phone. I was so pleased, I can't say enough!! I'm so thankful my girlfriend told me about Amber. She had her training in New York and Chicago which made all the difference. The only hard thing was the parking out front. But the service far out weighed that. I highly highly recommend Amber to anyone needing an amazing trustworthy stylist who knows her stuff. Finally someone who has it together. Thanks Amber!!! I'll be back!!! I began getting my hair cut by Amber about 4 years ago and even followed her to her new salon where i met Rebecca. Although i was Amber's client I admit to sitting in Rebecca's chair a few times when Amber was not available. Now ladies, we are finicky about our hair and who we let in it so i was a little skeptical at first. After a few times... I have found..... The Best 2 Hairdressers Alive... and they are in the same shop. I never have a hair emergency because if one is not available the other is. They are always there. I think i have been blessed. If anything ever happened to Cloud 9 or either of them... i might go bald. Pros: I dont have to worrie about no being able to get an appointment Cons: .......There is noone else like them. No others as skilled... they need to be cloned more

I thought I was in heaven when i met Rebecca and Amber but then they introduced me to the nail specialist, Courtney. I normally go to those stop and go shops you know like Roses nails or something and was convinced there was no other form of nail care and that all nail specialists were the same, until Courtney. She showed me what nail care really means. Instead of a water manicure and a polish and go, she soaked my hands in hot oil and gave me a tea tree treatment for my cuticles all at no extra charge. She also educated me on how to care for my hands while i am at home. I guess it is true what they say, yo uget what you pay for but in this case i have found a bargin. Pros: Manicures are exquisit and her pedicures.... you have to experience it for yourself Cons: if you dont come here, you are missing out. more

Everyone seems to have good reviews about this place so maybe I just caught them on a bad day. With that said...the hair cut I received was terrible. TERRIBLE. I asked for a touch up on my layers with no length taken off other than what was necessary and I walked out with butchered, uneven hair that was three inches shorter and substantially uneven on each side. I had to go to another salon the next day and have it "fixed" - meaning may hair that was previously shoulder length had to be cut almost to my chin to even out the damage. It took about 5 months of work with my new stylist to get the length back with the style I had asked for in the first place. I am not the type who hates every hair style I get and I have no problem asking a stylist to fix something I'm unhappy with. However, I didn't want her to touch my hair after that and I certainly wasn't going to have her attempt a fix. The staff was very pleasant but I will never step foot in there again. Be careful! AMBER is her name!!! She did my hair like no one I've ever had do it before. She took one look at it and transformed me into a new person! My husband was shocked at my new beautiful look! Her training in New York and Chicago was the reason for her skill she told me, but I have to tell you that if you happen upon a magical moment with this beautiful person, you will get a true Artist, not just a hair stylist. I was a first timer at Cloud 9 and was a little nervous about getting my hair done by someone new. I went in to get a cut and highlights. I took a picture of the haircut I wanted and it came out exactly how I wanted. I was very happy with the results and the price is very reasonable as well! All the staff is very friendly and very easy to talk to and get along with. If your looking for a new place to get your hair done go to Cloud 9 and ask for Rebecca or Amber! more

I had just about given up on finding real hair talent in Memphis after relocating from San Francisco. Rebecca came to the rescue. She's a talented artist who takes pride in going beyond giving a good haircut... she details the cut until it's perfect. Highly recommended... this lady's a find. For the past two years, I have been growing out the worst haircut of my life.... It's not as though I really loved it before, being curly, thick and coarse, i just dealt with it the best way i knew how. I also had it colored, but it was so overprocessed, that i just gave up and let it go to my natural color and hoped the mullet like haircut would someday have hope.... I saw a woman with beautiful curly hair and had to know her secret. She told me about a girl named Amber at Cloud 9 and how she gave her the hair she never knew she could have. So I got some guts and made an appointment for just a cut, and to my excitement, she KNEW her stuff. I learned styling tips that were invented for MY HAIR! I received tons of compliments, didn't have to throw it on top of my head any longer, and felt better and more beautiful than I had ever remembered. I then set up an appointment to cover those silvery pieces I despised but was afraid to color because my hair had been so trashed from past color jobs. The haircolor is so beautiful, the products they use are imported from Italy, and wow, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I can't stop bragging about it, Now I have my first date in a long time, and feel so much more confident! The salon was beautiful inside, and the customer service was outstanding. I recently went to see Rebecca for my usual haircut and to check out the new place, very cute! She has done an outstanding job on the new spa. Rebecca suggested that I talk to Lisa (her new esthetician) about some skin issues I have, and I decided to turn my haircut into a "spa day". Lisa did a great job with my skin, she is very knowledgeable. After an hour, I came out of the facial room with my skin glowing and looking great, and I got to take a nap while Lisa did her magic. She has a very relaxing massage, and as a new mom, I needed the break! I would recommend Lisa to anyone! Pros: reasonable pricing, they care "not a chain", awesome staff more
