great experience in 1999 5/8/2009

1999 - I think they now closed and moved from Bayside to Brooklyn. I went here with my bridesmaids & we all got exactly what we were looking for; Dresses & accessories. The staff was excellent & they gave us a discount on all the dresses. They also had a very nice selection of dressy gowns. Much better than most of the other stores I had gone into. more

out of business 1/21/2009

This store went out of business, but before it did, i bought some dress pants there, i should have bough more since i can't find any more like them. the reviews are right, they have very poor service, maybe that's why they failed. if anyone knows where they went please let me know. i would go there more

What?!?!? I had a great experience here. 3/16/2007

Wow...I'm actually really surprised by everyone's reviews. I had spent a horrible time looking for my wedding dress at other boutiques in queens, I am not a size 2 and trying on dresses was very difficult due to the fact that most of the boutiques I went to didn't carry my size in their samples, however Charmet had a lot of sales gowns in a variety of sizes and the staff member I dealt with was a sweetheart and extremely helpful, she helped me stay within my budget, my size and found EXACTLY what I always wanted. When I had the dress on and told her it was the one she quickly got me a veil and tiara to help me imagine the big day. I got my dress for 50% off at $300 with tax.(I guess the staff member you should try to look for is a woman in her late 30's, early 40's with long brown hair) more

Pissed off Bride 2/5/2007

Hi, I the bride decided to take my mom to Charmet after going everywhere to find the perfect one. The service at the time was fine because we had found a dress we liked at Macy's Manhasset but since my mom doesn't drive it was easier to get it from somewhere closer to home. We ordered the dress in January and was given a first fitting date in April. Well April rolled around and when I called to confirm the appointment the sales associate said it wasn't in, and to wait until next week unless the dress came in and they would call me to set up an earlier appointment. I didn't mind so I waited! They never called, so I called again the next week they gave me the run-around that the owner wasn't there and that he would have to call me back because the dress was stuck at the airport in Customs. Mind you this around April 25th and my wedding was May 8th. Again, no one called me back! At this point I was PISSED-so I called about 3 times a day and still no owner available to speak with me. So I took it upon myself to call in a favor with a patient of mine who works for Customs. He explained to me that there was nothing addressed to Charmet Bridal!! He looked through several boxes and nothing. I proceeded to call Charmet again and ask them about the Customs situation and how we would go about finding the dress. Finally they told me that they are waiting for the manufacturer to call them back. They eventually called and said that the dress would be in by Tueday. I asked the owner "if the dress comes in by Wednesday May 4, would you be able to dye the shoes for my mother because I don't think it can be done somewhere else?" He said no problem. The dress eventually came on Thursday May 5th. My mom was mortified she felt so bad that I had to go throught this. Like I didn't have anything else on my mind. She scheduled a Fitting on Friday and they would have the dress altered by Saturday and ready for pick-up. I brought moms shoes with me to drop them off for them to dye and the owner said "No, only shoes that are bought at this store I can dye-not if you bought them from somewhere else." That when the shit hit the fan!!!! I basically called the owner every name in the book. This was the first time in 27 years that I lost my cool especially in front of my mother and other customers. Everyone must have thought I was a truck driver due to the foul language that came out of my mouth. This was the only thing that stressed me out about my wedding of 350 people!! Anyway I ended up taking the shoes down the block and paying extra for the guy to dye them for my mom. The dress was ready on Saturday for pick-up even though the seamstress did a horrible job. I will never refer anyone to this store due to the lack of communication and the nasty staff they have working there!!! I think people should think twice about going there. Hope this comment helps someone else. more

Horrible Staff 1/21/2007

I went there with my best friend, to help her look for her bridesmaid dresses, and we actually found the one we were looking for in the store. But the service was horrible, knowing that there were two large groups in the store, one sales person walks away never to be seen again, and the other who was on the floor was just mean. If we asked to look at samples of the fabric for the dress she looked at us as if we were asking the world of her and took her sweet time to get it. We got so frustrated we left and brought our dresses from another bridal shop that was willing to take the time to help us out. more

Great store, Good prices, and Fabulous Alterations 8/24/2005

First off I have to say that the above poster is right - they have a VERY small selection of bridal gowns and only an OK selection of bridesmaid gowns. BUT they are one of the best decisions I made for my wedding in September. I shopped for my gown all over trying to find the best price & alterations. When I called Charmet they said they didn't carry the gown in the sotre but they could order it for me. All their dresses include the alterations and my gown was $450 less than any other store in all of Long Island, NYC, NJ, CT, & DE. Believe me I called every store listed on the Maggie Sottero web site and was willing to drive a bit if it kept us in our budget! I've been for all my fittings and Emelia is a pleasure to work with. Also she altered my girl dresses (bought at a larger fancy bridal store on LI) after the seamstress there ruined the zippers, one of the hem lines, & stiched one girls top seam of the strapless dress into a "V" shape neck line when the original look & other dresses were a square strappless straight line. She replaced all the zippers, had 6 fittings alone on her off days with my "V" neck BM and made us feel very comfortable. My advice - go shopping at a bunch of large fancy bridal stores until you find what you want. Then go to Charmet to order the dress & get your alterations done! Unless if you want to pay more for the same dress and a fancy store.... :-) more

Not the greatest selection 7/28/2005

Charmet Bridal was one of the first bridal shops I looked in when I was looking for a wedding dress, and I was very disappointed in their selection. I had a general idea of the style of dress I was looking for, and they really didn't have much to show me at all. The sales staff seemed very disinterested, and overall, they weren't very helpful. I was pretty disappointed that I wasted my time going to this store. more
