Say, does anyone know what a texturizer is? Well, it is simple to do. Put a little relaxer in the hair, lets say for about 5-7 minutes, wash hair, condition it, put a little curl activator in your hair and walk out the door. No need to sit under dryer, no need to thermal curl. Easy as pie, right? No, not for her!!!! First of all, a texturizer is for a short cut...I had at least 6 inches of hair. I kept telling her it needs to be cut--she didn't want to cut so when she completed it. I looked like I had a afro from the 60's with a weave sewed in. She tried to fix it up. I told her nothing she could do would make it work it needs to be cut. So she preceeded to cut it, still left me with 4 inches of hair. It looked ok, I thought maybe I could work with it but I will never come back again; but it wasn't what I expected from a "DIRECTOR." I was there for two hours when it should had only been for 45 mins. So, I left with a whopping $172 less. What the f***. The next day after I took a shower---what did I look like; no not what I looked like, but what did my hair looked liked? My hair looked like it belonged to a drunk, a wine ole, a crack head. I can't even go to work today. I'm typing this review. I'm pissed. I can't wait until they open. I'm counting the hours and minutes. more

Can't reach my expectations 2/3/2011

I used to go there. I believed the ads UNTIL I went a few times and was never impressed with the cut I got or the style. Old style, drab, no pizazz. Columbus is barely out of the hay-seed era and these people don't care or keep up with fashion forward. If you disbelieve, look at the party pictures in Columbus Monthly. Would you want your head to look like any of those? Me either. Every hairstyle is just like the person standing in the same picture. No flair, no creativity. If you want long, straight.hair go to Penzones. God only knows they've had enough practice on that cut to be able to render it on your head. The last time I went I waited in the lobby for an hour for my appointment. I decided I'd use my time by watching what Penzone produced as they paid and left. In that entire hour, I never saw one hair cut or do with any personality to it. I've never been back but patted myself on my back for realizing that before I proved it to myself that last wait. Whereas, in contrast, my family was walkng the Boardwalk Mall in Annapolis? forgot the name. I also didn't remember the name because I did not expect to get much for the money and the hub-bub. . A salon that just cuts hair was jammed with people. I walked in thinking I'd have a horribly long wait. They took me right in and I got one of the best most up to date hair cuts for almost nothing that I've had since I've lived in Columbus. FAST The kind of hair cut that fits my face, just falls into place that Columbus or Penzones has no knowledge of? You know the one if you've ever run into someone who has the skill. Everyone got a great hair cut personalized just to them. A wonderful place, just too far to go once a month. It can be done and it does not need to cost half your salary Man, I wish I could remember the name but I bet if you know people in Annapolis they could tell you! Its in the wooden mall overlooking the bay. more

Both positive and not so positive 1/22/2011

As I am shortly to begin a new job, I decided to have my hair style and make-up evaluated. I went to Karen, a senior director at Charles Penzone Dublin, for my hair, and Abby for my makeup. This experience was a mix of both good and not-so good. I'll list both pros and cons. Pros: Abby was excellent. Although the hair stylist had gone over her time and Abby was rushed during my appointment, she not only listened to what I was saying, but suggested items and techniques for me to do which were not only do-able, age-appropriate and flexible, but worked within my budget. The experience was worth every penny - not only for how I looked, but for a raised level of confidence I had about being able to myself maintain a more flattering makeup regimen. Cons: Karen was the first senior director I have visited. Throughout, she was very rushed as she was juggling multiple clients. I was left in the chair periodically, was asked to hold and pass her foils while doing my highlights, and throughout she was also giving directions to a student hair dresser about other clients. It was a little disappointing. I do not often spend extra money on myself and though I realize things can get busy in any workplace, when I am paying considerably more for this level of stylist, I do not expect this type of service. As mentioned in the pros, she also did not check the services printout so continued to take other clients, making me late for the makeup consultation, which was cut short by about a third of the time because of it. While Karen did have me return after the makeup to finish up, the entire appointment took an added 2 hours+ and I missed a family birthday dinner because of it. While she did a good job with highlights, the cut itself is one which is difficult to maintain - she herself had some difficulty getting my hair to lay correctly. I have wavy hair and a few cowlicks (which I pointed out to her previous to her beginning). As a result of the cut, my hair is unfortunately now more unruly. So while Karen herself is pleasant, I have had far better experience and results with a stylist or director, have spent less time waiting - and have paid considerably less. more

Charles Penzone's Grand Salon is not so Grand! 1/21/2011

I went to Penzone's regularly for two years to get my nails done. They always lifted and the tech ( In two years I was shuffled around to at least 5) always said it was my nails. For the past year and a half I have been going to two other salons with no lifting problems. During the holidays my regular nail tech was on vacation and I thought I would give Penzone's another try. My nails started lifting the next day. Here I am two weeks later (going to my regular today) my nails look terrible. Every nail is lifted. What a waste of money. I will never go to Penzone's anywhere again. Lots of pretention, but they just don't back up their ads. more

"Sonny hooked me up" 6/22/2009

I have been going to Penzones to get my eyebrows waxed since I was 16 years old but recently made the switch from waxing to threading. I was very nervous at first but Sonny was so careful when explaining the process and gentle during the treatment that I felt completely at ease. When I saw the reults i was amazed at the precision. Thank you Sonny- "you hooked me up" Pros: Full service salon and spa more

Best Salon/Spa in Columbus HANDS DOWN 11/19/2008

I have been to Charles Penzone on numerous occasions and have NEVER had a bad experience! My Designer-Danica-is amazing. She really knows what she is doing and always listens to what I want. I have never left her chair feeling uneasy about my cut or color and everyone always asks me who does my hair! I have also had multiple massages there and LOVED the experience. This salon makes you feel like you are their most important client, offering you a drink as soon as you walk in the door-and taking care of your needs every step of the way--you MUST try this salon!!! Pros: DANICA!!! Cons: Price more

They pretend to be cutting-edge 3/27/2006

The atmosphere is cheesy. The stylists, well, I've been to several--all Senior Directors--and none of them have any idea how to cut short hair. The most recent stylist bluntly cut my ears out (unevenly, I might add) when I asked her to cut my hair short so that it swept forward around my ears, then proceeded to tell me that a swept-forward look is achieved only through styling. Well, I can't sweep my hair forward because my hair is so bluntly cut around my ears that it won't do anything but fall straight down. It looks like I took kitchen shears and cut a straight line of hair out over my ears. I will never go back to Penzone's. They might be okay with a simple bob or trim, but not a cut with any edge or personalilty to it. If you want a "vanilla" haircut, this is your place. Pros: Plenty of parking Cons: Lack of originality, Lack of skill, Cheesy atmosphere more

Went in excited..came out DISAPPOINTED! 3/9/2006

I had high expectations after reading the reviews but now I feel nothing but anger and depression because I look worse than before! I should not even have gone there at all! The ironic thing is that it was a Senior Director who cut my hair. I've had many better cuts than this for a lower price and from people with less experience. She did not explain to me about the new style she did for me and certainly did not tell me that I needed to use hairspray for the style (which I dislike). I kept telling her I don't like it this way and she kept insisting that it looks fine. When I came out, my friends did not even say a word about my hair meaning that they were embarrased to admit that it looks horrible. I am now very mad and will never ever return there. more

not going here is a mistake 1/13/2006

Pros: cutting edge, freindly, well trained Cons: busy, ran out of product, na more

They like to get you in and out 12/1/2005

I went to this salon for a full day of service, I had a manicure, pedicure, facial and massage. The facial was pretty much pointless for the $80 I was paying. I could have done more for my skin at home. They basically gave me a cleanser and a mask, massaged my feet and hands and sent me on my way. I know this sounds harsh, but if I am paying this much money, the experience should be amazing. When I went to get my pedicure and manicure, I felt so rushed. While she was finishing up my nails, she excused herself to go set up her next appointment. I would never go back there for any service. Pros: clean Cons: no value for $, rushed more

Girls day out:) 3/14/2005

I had Johann she did really good on my hair a little bit shorter than I wanted but it will grow ... My daughter had Leigh my daugher has half and half natural curl and I think it may have not worked the way the cutter wanted it too. Her bangs are a bit funny thin in the middle and well it is okay but she is only a little girl the have to have an appt for under 12 got me... but in the end I didn't cry and my daughter is very happy with her hair and the fact she got to be a big girl for a few minutes:) Pros: products Cons: price more

If you need something just to make yourslef feel better or you need to make those former cheerleaders at your reunion to cring with envy when they see how beautiful your hair and make-up looks. This is the place to go. Customer service is awesome. They offer you a soda as soon as you walk through the door. A little peice of heaven for you or a loved one well worth the $!! And may I suggest: Audrey for hair! You know how every woman pratically searches for the perfect hairdresser for them? She is it for me, totally awesom. I'll never go to anyone ever again.
