Good for Local Student Rentals 4/22/2011

I've used this company since 1998 and it's a decent place for student rentals, some sheet music, and local instructor referrals. Their repairs are overpriced, slow and not that great. For repairs, I highly recommend Best Instrument Repair on 14th street in Oakland, Their shop is across from the Oakland Federal building. I've used them to tune my son's flutes and sax for many years. They looked over a used sax we were considering buying and helped us make a decision. When I asked C&L if they'd help with this, they just sneered at me and said used instuments are never worth it. Which is probably true if you buy junk to start with. more

Would you support a local arrogant man that cannot do his job correctly? 12/7/2010

I thought that if a shop seemed a little overpriced but was family run and local, I would like to support it just because I live within a couple miles. = WRONG\r \r The service was poor at best, my horn still has a leak and is only slightly better than when i took it in. A COMPLETE waste of my money, which is a terrible thing to do in a recession.\r \r I asked about subsequent repairs and the owner was arrogant and insulting\r this is their website where I found them: http://www.c-lmusic.net/\r \r I would not recommend this store to anyone that has ever or will ever play an instrument. more

DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS STORE - THE OWNER [MARK] IS EXTREMELY RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND CONDESCENDING. \r \r THEIR WORK IS MODERATE AT BEST BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS PATHETIC.\r \r THEY SAY THAT THEY ARE A FAMILY OWNED COMPANY BUT THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR CUSTOMERS - THEY JUST TRY TO GET MONEY OUT OF YOU.\r \r Please do NOT support such a rude store. more

very happy at C&L 6/21/2010

After researching many years for my sons bass clarinet I came upon C&L. C&L had the best price and the staff was willing to do anything they could to help me. I now have a five year service plan with my purchase. I left with a bass clarinet, a great deal, and a happy son. what more could i want. more

Over Priced 2/24/2009

I bought a beginner's flute from them, and later I found out that I paid twice as mush as if I would've bought from other places. And when I brought the instrument over to get an estimate for repair, they estimate $125. So I paid them $17.50 for the estimate and took it to A&G music in Oakland. A&G charges half of the price C&L would, and they estimate for free. So it is not a place I would recommend. more

Excellent service 9/3/2008

I've been doing business with this establishment since 2001. The owners and staff have been consistently courteous and helpful. They have quality instruments at a reasonable price for rent and excellent repair service. I did need to go elsewhere for a bassoon rental, but have been completely satisfied with the availability of more common instruments. more

Horrible Experience with C & L 6/29/2008

Upon returning the instrument I had paid for in the beginning of the year the owner treated me very poorly. He was rood and offensive not only to be but to my children. I will never give this company any business nor will I refer our elementary school to this company. I have heard of other parents say the same about their experience. more

quaint place 11/2/2005

This store has a great selection of musical instruments if that is what you are looking for. I, on the other hand, was looking more for sheet music and theory guides to help me learn more, of which they didn't have that great deal of a selection. Very nice place, though, with very knowledgable and helpful staff. more

Quality Instruments 8/10/2005

C & L offer instruments in great condition. The instruments play well, hardly anything breaks (other than reeds, naturally!), and the price is very reasonable for what you're purchasing. The staff assits and makes you feel comfortable as you first enter the store. They sell music books, stands, everything one needs to begin playing an instrument. more
