I have had a bad experience with all the staff at Dyersburg Patterson Center known as Developmental Skills Center. My adult was enrolled there for approximately two years and our experience was a nightmare. My adult had night mares about returning to that place. After much discussion with the director and other staff members my adult and family decided this is not what we wanted for our loved one. Our loved one is a person and not a robot as they wanted her to be. Believe me they do not know anything about retardation and how to deal with problems. After much research and speaking with state personnel I discovered they do not have a high rating with the state of TN. and I understand why. My loved one is no longer associated with CSPatterson and is doing much better. She still has fears of some day returning there but that will never happen. Several persons in Dyersburg have the same opinion but are afraid to talk about it for fear their adult will be treated badly if parents speak up. I was told if I did not like the way they run the place I could take my loved one home for there is no other place to help with her problems. I took the director's advice and have never been happier. Maybe someday the state will see that changes need to be made.
