Avenue Diner

Good: Breakfast selections are average to above-average diner fare. Italian sausage is good.. Bad: Where do I start? Last time we went, our soup was served luke warm (waitress didn't come back for 15 minutes - so long appetizer), the cole slaw was like soup, my hamburger was overcooked and dried out, my wife was told the vegetable was a medley with broccoli and was then served corn, the stuffing which came with the chicken was undercooked, mashed potatoes were luke warm...just a disaster. The time before that I found a partial toothpick in my roastbeef club and bit into it-luckily I didn't break a tooth.. Improvements: We started going here when it first opened and it seems like it has got progressively worse. We have given it every benefit of the doubt yet have been disappointed each time. The service has always been spotty with a high turnover rate. The food quality is sorely lacking. All in all, this place needs new management.. Other: Sometimes we wonder if our standards our just too high, but we have given this place multiple chances to prove itself. If you're not fussy and are just looking for typical diner fare, you might not mind the inconsistency. If you expect a little more for your dining dollars (both with the service and food) it's my humble opinion that you will not be happy with this choice.. more

The closest thing we have to an ACTUAL diner in the area is this place. Good, solid choices cooked well. They start by bringing you out a free snack plate - melon slices, crackers and cheese spread. Very nice touch. Menu is huge and it is very difficult to decide. We both ended up with the meatloaf and found it very good. More gravy would have been my only complaint. Soups were homemade. Entrée portions were very big. Service was commendable and prices are good. Eat here for a nice change of pace from the chains. more
