Editorial review from Citysearch 8/1/2012

Went there today for lunch, this would make my second visit. I will not be back. Service was horrible. We waited 35 minutes for our food to arrive, portions were very small. We never saw our server again. No water refill and we had to ask the door person for our bill and a to go box. I ordered the Steak Hibachi and my fiance ordered the Bulgogi Don. Both were very bland, had very little flavor. I wouldnt even think about ordering sushi their prices are crazy high. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/30/2012

Food OK. Watch your bill! -- A group of us from work went for lunch last week (July, 2012). I had the yakiniku Bento lunch - yakiniku beef was bland. Service was OK - no major issues. We were expecting a gratuity of 18% to be added to the bill since we had a group of 6 and since that is stated on the menu. When the bills came, 20% was added to the bill, calculated on the AFTER-tax total. No mention was made of the percentage charged -- you had to calculate the percentage to figure out you had been overcharged. I felt this was dishonest. I wasn't surprised when I saw other comments on this site about being overcharged. I won't be going back. more

Great food, but watch your bill!!! 9/21/2010

My family and I went to Asuka last night for dinner as a celebration. The waiter was very courteous. The food was amazing. We ordered uni which they not only had, but served quite generously. The tempura was crisp and light. The boat platter we shared had not just salmon and tuna, but escolar, unagi, and snapper in generous portions. So why the 3 stars? Two of the items we ordered we were overcharged for. The uni should have been $7 and we were charged $10. The shrimp tempura should have been $6.99 and we were charged $8.95. As I said this was a celebration and I wasn't in the mood to argue the prices which are clearly stated on the menu (and the web site!) so it is very possible they would have been willing to remedy the bill, but I shouldn't have been put in that situation in the first place. more

Great Sushi & Kitchen Food 8/30/2010

I've been coming to asuka for little awhile now, I've always had their sushi which is great however, I tryed their kitchen item for the firest time. I must say it was unexpectedly pleasant experience. I ordered the Coconut Flounder and it was crunchy with bites of coconut and very fluffy and moist fillet of flounder inside more

EXTREMELY BAD SERVICE 7/19/2010

I went to this restaurant with a group of co-workers for a birthday celebration. First it literally took 30 minutes to place our order and another 1 1/2 hours to get our food. When we received our food it was cold as if it had been sitting. There were 2 to 3 other parties that arrived at the restaurant after we did and received their food before we got ours. When we complained about the food being cold the waiter offered to microwave the food. Who would want microwave shrimp??? The helper who brought out the food got an attitude when we tried to inform him what each person had ordered since he wasn't the the one who took the order. He rolled his eyes and set our food down on the table behind us and walked off. When we were leaving we asked to speak with a manager and was told that there was no manager and that he had left. I will like to advise anyone who is thinking about eating at this location to please not do so. You can eat at any local McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, or Bojangles and receive better service. To make matters worse their rating is a ""91"". Cons: POOR SERVICE, COLD FOOD, RUDE WAIT STAFF more

Horrendous Service 7/13/2010

We've had the sushi at Asuka a few times but only take-out and it has been very good. We decided to eat in today and the service was among the WORST we've had at a restaurant. Aside from being really slow, the owner (who would only speak through our server and not show her face) should not be an owner of any retail establishment. We ordered a bottle of wine that was clearly spoiled/oxidized - very apparent upon the first sip and visual appearance. The owner (again only through the waiter) initially did not want to take the wine back. We had to argue with the waiter to not be charged for the wine. There was no offer to replace the bottle. We gave up and thought that was the end of it. Then, the waiter comes back again with a message from the owner telling us we were wrong and the wine is fine - stating ""that is just how that wine tastes."" With respect for the winery, I will not mention the name since I am sure they would be appalled to have their wine served in a restaurant that can't admit that they had a bad bottle. Honestly, this back and forth went on for 20 minutes with no offer for a replacement bottle. After that, forget it. We were marked as a table to not be waited on. Shame on the owner. The cardinal rule of owning a business ""the customer is always right."" And that was broken. Second, wine goes bad. It happens. Any other restaurant would have immediately opened a new bottle. Third, if the bottle was replaced and it was fine, the restaurant would not be out any money since the markup on that particular bottle was about 60%. Throw out the bad bottle, customer buys new bottle and you still make 10%. Simple math. Fourth and most important - and this is for the pathetically cheap owner-we will not be back. You lost us for good - and possible more customers after they read this review - all so you could try to save a buck. Good luck staying open another year? Pros: Good sushi for the area Cons: service, the owner more

Very Disapponting 7/1/2010

I was excited to try this place after getting a coupon and seeing reviews online. After getting into the nearly abandoned strip mall where Asuka resides and stepping inside, it looked like it would be great. We ordered two sushi rolls, stuffed mushroom app, and a chicken hibachi dinner. The stuffed mushrooms came out first. They were good, not great. Next was the sushi. Both rolls had standard presentation, nothing fancy, but were huge. Not the good kind of huge, but huge because they were STUFFED with way too much rice. Razon-thin slices of fish sat atop the dragon roll and you could hardly taste the inside because there was so much rice. Terrible. The hibachi style chicken dinner came out next. $15 - as much as a REAL hibachi place charges - and there was hardly anything on the plate. Skimped on the veggies and rice, and the chicken was so dry I had to take a drink after each bite. It was worse than three-day-old leftovers from a good hibachi place. Awful. I had a 50% off coupon and I still felt ripped off. Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: Bad food, high price, iffy service more

Very Friendly and Welcoming 4/25/2010

Had a few hours to kill before a flight at RDU. In less then 5 minutes I arrived at Asuka, a very inviting, modern atmospher sushi bar. Pros: Very tasty and extremely attentive and friendly staff more

Good if you've never been to Tazu or Shiki 3/12/2010

Half size rolls compared to better sushi in the area. Shiki Sushi near Southpoint mall and Tazu it's sister restaurant in Brier Creek are amazing. Asuka is good but just doesn't compare to these other places. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Very small rolls more

Amazing Food! 2/26/2009

I just visited there for the first time, and not only was I very impressed by the presentation of the food - the taste was fantastic! The atmosphere is terrific for bringing friends, and the price is unbeatable for the quality of the food. I'm not entirely knowlegeable as far as Japanese food goes, but I found that the waitresses were very helpful in finding me the perfect dish. I will definitely be returning as the experience there was outstanding in all aspects. Asuka is very clean and well run, and I highly recommend eating there! Pros: Great food and great service Cons: None off the top of my head more

A Place to Go for Sushi 2/26/2009

A friendly environment, great service, and perfect food. Pros: What a deal on sushi price Cons: I can't say there was one more

Average sushi, nothing spectacular 1/13/2009

I had bad experiences here before and wrote a horrible review. After I returned a few more times, since my work place is very close by, I wanted to change my review since I felt it wasn't fair to keep a horrible review after I've been going back a few more times. The food is not bad at all especially for buy 1 and get 1 free special, I won't complain anymore, it beats the hell out of shiki sushi. A good place to get good rolls at good prices. But when I'm craving quality nigiri sushi and sashimi, I'll be else where. Pros: Nice remodeling. Buy1 get 1 free rolls more

Kitchen really messed up, but it was ok the next day. 1/8/2009

Took a coworker here on 1/7/09 and was pleasantly surprised to see the 2for1 roll prices. I've been here many times for lunch as their food is always good - if a little pricey. Note that the pricing is much better now. Staff is ALWAYS very nice and very friendly, but sometime not working on all cylinders. Wrong order delivered, delayed, etc. Pros: food, staff Cons: service delays more

Disregard the reviews below 8/10/2008

Please disregard the pretentious comments below. Asuka is regarded as a hidden treasure of sorts; a great sushi place tucked away between Morrisville and Cary. It is far and away the best sushi / Japanese restaurant in the Triangle. To say that they should have no overhead costs because they're in Morrisville and not DC is arrogant and ignorant. The prices are fair considering the high quality of the food and fantastic service. For the previous reviewer to say that they ""felt taken advantage of"" sounds like a toddler throwing a tantrum, and to leave the restaurant after seeing the menu is, well, just plain rude. I highly recommend sushi lovers make the trip to check out all that Asuka has to offer. more

Plain and simple...Bad buisness 6/7/2008

We ordered take-out from Asuka, where we really love their food; however, when we presented the owner with a gift certificate for the order he REFUSED to accept it! NO WHERE on the GC did it state ""dine in only"". To our dismay we purchased the food to not be wasteful, but vowed never to go again! The owner of Asuka not only lost our business, but we will be telling EVERYONE we know not to go there. What's the point in giving a GIFT if it will not be accepted. Pros: great food Cons: does not accept gift certificates for take out?! more

GREAT PLACE 1/16/2008

I got to go here for the first time the other night and must say I was very impressed with everything. The sushi was delicious and the service was friendly. I love sushi and would have to rate this one second or third on my list of places that I would recommend to a friend. I am not big on asian fusion type sushi, but I did like this. I am more of a traditional sushi person. I will definitely go back to eat again and I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends. Pros: Not an over crowded place. It's a secret place in Morrisville! more
