Yes, they are very expensive, but so is going to the emergency room yourself. They do have a credit card that you can apply for, aka, a payment plan. If there are no other veterinarians open, I'd be willing to pay whatever it costs to find out what is wrong with my pet. I had my chocolate lab there three times in one week and the total bill was about $1700, and I'd find a way to pay it again. I also had to take my yellow lab there and shelled out $450 for xrays and meds. I would recommend this place in an emergency situation because they take every measure to make sure your pet is okay. more

If you value your furkid's life, please don't take them to AERC of York, PA. I took sweet Alma there on Sunday 1/6/2013 for an obstruction. they did surgery and removed what they told me was a bone fragment. Upon my dissection of it, i found no bone, but a mass of grass, plastic and a sliver of a stick. Her intestines had been perforated and she needed a resection. They sent her home on 1/8/2013 while she was barely eating and had not had a bowel movement yet. After she appeared to have difficulty trying to defecate and again showed no interest in eating, I had her back in on Wednesday 1/9/2013 but Xrays were inconclusive so they sent them out for analysis. I never got a call back that night. While in the office, they told me it would be another 5 -10 grande to open her back up to determine what was happening inside of her. After maxing out my Care Credit for her first surgery, I had no money left to do much more. they sent me home with her to monitor her through the night. Around 4 AM on 1/10/2013, Alma vomited up everything I'd fed her the previous morning plus a large mass of hair, grass and plastic. i called AERC and told them what happened and asked if they had checked her stomach during her surgery on 1/6. The E-vet had never checked her stomach. She still had a blockage!!!!!! I ended up taking her to her regular vet on 1/10/2013 and she was admitted and more xrays and tests were done to determine what was going on. On friday 1/11/2013, after Alma neither improved nor worsened, her vet and i decided that we had no choice but to open her up again to determine what was happening inside of her. about 45 minutes after i got home, i received a call. It was bad. as the vet explained the situation, she began to cry. 2 liters of fluid was drained out of her abdomen, her resection had failed and the rest of her intestinal tract was not looking healthy. I had to give the authorization to set my poor girl free while she was on the operating table.Over 5 grande total spent just at the E-vet for her care and she passed on 1/11/2013 while in surgery at her regular vet's practice when I refused to take her back to AERC after discovering they had not checked her stomach while she was in surgery on 1/6/2013. Please don't take your animals there if you value their lives. Find a vet who will be open or keep emergency hours. R.I.P. sweet Alma, you are loved and missed so much. I'm so sorry that i took you to AERC sweetie. you didn't deserve the negligence you got in their care. i'm so sorry sweetie. more

Just Like A Family Member (: 2/1/2011

My cat had been in a cat fight and had injured his little paw and could barely walk, so after much debate I took him to this animal hospital after talking to the ladies in the office and being denied for CareCredit, I didn't know if I could afford the emergency rates. When I got there everyone was so sweet to me and my cat Kojo, they treated him like he was a part of our family which made me feel more at ease. They didn't try to talk me into any testing, they merely presented me with options and reccommended tests but there was no pressure what-so-ever. In the end my bill came to $166 and I outright told them that I could not afford that amount at that time, and they vet tech worked with me and actually in the end only had me pay $75 for the emergency examination fee and sent me and my kojo home with free antibiotics that originally costed over $70. I am very grateful to them, and I really only had to wait 45 minutes to be put in an examination room, but that was only because they had some emergency surgeries. I would reccomend this place to anyone who really cares about their pets well-being. Yes, it is pricey but what can you expect in an emergency room? Its the same as a normal hospital, so really it's not as outrageous as everyone previously quoted! I was very satisfied! Good job Animal ER of York! (: more
