JD Bowers is everything you and your hair could ask for! JD himself is a charming, stylish, bright guy who happens to wield a mean pair of scissors. He cuts hair well and thoughtfully, and his cuts hold their shape beautifully. JD's been cutting my hair for over 7 years and I can't imagaine my hair without him! He listens, asks the right questions, makes suggestions and, seemingly effortlessly, incorporates all this into haircuts that I'm happy with, that are easy to style (thanks to his genius tips), and literally have strangers stopping me in the street to ask who cuts my hair. more

Amazing Coloring Done by Mary 8/16/2011

I absolutely love my highlights. and color. Left on my own I have what I refer to as mouse brown hair. I have been following Mary for a few years and love what she does for my color. She paints on the highlights so they blend in and look more natural and then usually does a glaze over the whole head to deepen the overall color. I get compliments all the time. The salon is very relaxing and the staff is super friendly. Highly recommend. more

Amazing highlights with Mary Curran 5/14/2011

Mary is INCREDIBLE. I recently went to get to my highlights and hair cut at Tosler Davis, and was very happy with the results. I am very picky about my highlights, and have been following Mary from salon to salon for three years. She has the magic touch. My highlights always come out looking very natural, and my hair shines. Mary always knows how to pick and mix the right colors, and follows up with a great glaze that leaves your hair looking so healthy. I have fine blond hair; so the color and texture of my highlights matters a lot. The salon is also great and the staff are extremely professional and pleasant. more

I go to Patty and I have aboslutely nothing bad to say, she is so nice and always does a great job! She deserves 10 stars out of 5! My hair always looks great and she is a joy to be around. JD's Great reviews don't lie! 5/10/2010

A friend of mine had gone to this salon awhile back and came out with the most amazing haircut I had seen on her. When it came time for me to cut my waist length hair I thought of this salon and having read JD's reviews on Citysearch, booked an appt with him. Now there's a reason why I waited so long to cut my long hair...I still wanted to have long hair once I left the salon! JD immediately made me feel at ease, taking the time to listen to me first and then offering me his recommendation. Not only did I go in for a haircut but walked out with a wealth of information about how to maintain and improve my color processed hair. NO one takes the time out to explain the vital information needed to maintain healthy, beautiful hair as JD has. I loved my modern, sexy cut and received bountiful compliments...and ended up booking a blowout the following week for an upcoming job interview because I had so many compliments. I work in fashion so I need to look fierce and JD does the job...to an easy T. And...w/out the attitude you may find at other high quality salons! Awesome, talented staff 1/14/2010

I LOVE this salon. I have spent years bouncing from salon to salon looking for the perfect cut and color. Some gave me a good cut but lousy color....others the color was good and the cut sucked. But @ Tosler Davis I have found the best colorist, Beth Ann. She listened to what I wanted and then suggested what she thought would be best for my natural color and skin tone. I have received so many compliments!! Then came the cut...... I had an appt. with Patty and I was looking to do something totally different. She made some suggestions based on my hair type and voila, a great new look for me. I've never been happier with my hair. Hands down the best salon in NYC!!!! J.D. is patient, listens to what the client wants, is so much fun to talk with and overall an awesome hairstylist. I've been going to J.D. for years and would follow him anywhere (most recently from Eva Scrivo). He's everything you want in a hairstylist: he does your hair beautifully and is always on time, he's a consummate professional who not only listens to your requests but makes thoughtful suggestions, and he's a great conversationalist. I always look great and feel great when I leave his chair. more

Wonderful spot! 4/16/2009

I recently followed JD Bowers here from Eva Scrivo and love this place. It is in a wonderful location and has an extremely relaxed feel. Everyone who worked there was so nice and accommodating. JD is the BEST!!! I have been switching stylists for two years now and finally found him and it is the best haircut and color I have ever had!! I was so sad when I called Eva and they told me he was no longer there (and wouldn't give me his info) but I persevered and tracked him down on facebook!! I would recommend him to anyone and everyone and I LOVE the new salon! more

Ask for JD! 4/12/2009

I've been going to JD for about two years and can't say enough good things about him. He recently left Eva Scrivo and is now at Tosler Davis and it was a no-brainer for me to follow him to the new salon (which is a great space and super convenient -- close to union square and lots of subways). He always does an amazing job with my hair (cut and color), always listens to what I ask for, and the cut is so good that the layering looks good even when I let it air dry. The last time I got my hair cut and left the salon someone actually stopped me on the subway to ask where I got my hair cut b/c she liked it so much. He's a total sweetheart and very down to earth -- I'd bounced around from stylist to stylist before my friend recommended JD to me and I haven't looked back since! more

Most amazing haircut EVER! 2/25/2009

I needed my hair cut and was recommended to Patty. This turned out to be the most amazing experience! She not only gave my uncooperative, frizzy hair the perfect blow-out, but she listened to exactly what I wanted and created exactly what I needed- even though I wasn't even sure what I needed (and for only $80!). To top it off, the entire staff was warm and the environment inviting. I live in Brooklyn, but will make the commute from now on. Patty is the best and I can't wait for next time! Best Colorist in NYC! 11/23/2008

I had been going to the same colorist to have my hair highlighted for years and she suddenly decided to move back to California. I was devastated! I friend recommended that I go to see Sean at Tosler Davis and I am so glad that I did. Sean is amazing with color! My hair always looks natural and healthy. I have never received so many comments has I have had since going to Sean. His assistants are great as well and will give a great blowout which is included with any service. I highly recommend Tosler Davis! Pros: Amazing color, great ambiance! more

Beth Ann - best blonde ever 7/31/2008

I went to get my hair done at TD right before Memorial Day weekend... Alan cut my hair which was great, but what I left there beaming about were the highlights that Beth Ann gave me. I have always gotten blonde highlights - all at nice expensive places, first in DC where I used to live and then to a few nice ones up here in the city. Usually when I tell a stylist that I want to go blonder, they make it too golden or too ashy, and never ""blonder"". Beth Ann did this beautifully, and almost 3 months later, it has held up very well. It was the perfect shade of baby blonde but it looked very natural. No brassiness and no gray or beige. She is so so nice and easy to talk to during the appointment. Also gave me good tips about products. Pros: BETH ANN! more

NYC's best kept secret hair salon 5/14/2008

If I could give more stars I would. TS is hands down the best kept secret in town. Everyone that works there is down to earth and sweet. I have been to Bumble and Bumble and John Sahag - NO ONE compares. Alan is a hair cutting rock star but totally unassuming. I leave the salon looking like a celebrity. I've been getting my hair done at TS for 9 years now and still go there all the way from Boston with my toddler in tow. I'm completely addicted and you will be too. more

1 great experience, 1 not so great 4/2/2008

Had one of the best cuts of my life (i have obnoxiously fine hair with a very odd wave in it) from Tuula; rebooked 8 weeks later for trim to find she'd left! If only I'd known. Liz did next cut and while it was good, was nothing like the first cut - didn't understand my look or what I needed so I went in with cool Sally Hershberger like layers and came out with a boring, but precise, bob. more

Best Color and Cut I Have Ever Had! 3/25/2008

Just came from my second visit with Sean and Alan at Tosler Davis. The first time I went in my hair was in need of drastic help. I have been going to high-end salons here in NYC that claim they cut hair based on your lifestyle and shape of your face, that was not the case. I found Tosler Davis on-line and liked the reviews and was impressed with the awards they had received. I am so glad I did. I started with Sean who said the color and highlights needed to be changed and he did. He gave me the most amazing color and highlights I have ever had. Alan came over before Sean started, took one look at my hair and said ""I know exactly what I'm going to do"". He gave me the most amazing cut ever! Both Sean and Alan were polite, professional, and know their stuff! I got so many compliments I went back again today. I don't know how it's possible but my hair looks even better this time! This is an amazing salon and I will never go anywhere else and always to Sean and Alan! The reviewer that was so critical of Alan must have been in a different salon or was having a really bad day! If you're looking for a new salon you owe to yourself to give them a try! Pros: Professional, Clean, Friendly Staff, Best Cut and Color Ever more
