The Shaw's in Allston is a horrible bigoted establishment where sad and ignorant people work. Their management is rude and poorly trained. I will NEVER shop there again. It is an overpriced Yuppie trap and I should have known better than to attempt to shop there. If you have any standards you won't bother with this place. more

banking and groceries all at once 6/4/2006

This is a great supermarket. It feels like a step up in class and selection from Stop and Shop without an increase in price. It has a little liquor store located inside the supermarket, behind the registers, that acts separately from the Shaw's. It closes a bit earlier than regular liquor stores, perhaps 10pm, and i think it might even be closed completely on Sundays. The deli and fish market is fresh and competitive too. My favorite is buying things there and using the cashback option. One time I bought an iced tea and took $200 cashback (the maximum) and went to the casino. The money was from an out-of-state bank account, and any other bank would have charged me 3 bucks or so....and at the casino, every bit counts. more

Terrific Selection, Convenient Location 3/22/2006

What a godsend this market was when it opened up a number of years ago, filling a void in this neighborhood for a supermarket. They have a very large prepared food section, with pizzas and stir fry made to order and a large salad bar. Catering to many of the foreign students in the area, they have a good assortment on "world foods." They also have a very good meat section, where I've even seen ostrich steaks and buffalo in the past. The parking lot is a little small, but the rapid turnover means that you can always find a spot with a little patience (and depending on the time of day there are also metered spots nearby). It's also right across the street from a B line T stop. The Smoothie Bar/Juice Bar has a wide variety. more

What a great supermarket! Besides being really big and having a great selection of all the standard foods and really fresh produce etc. this Shaw's has some great features that are unique. The major one is the bundle pick up - where you have them bag your groceries into bags and then put them into these baskets. Then you drive your car to the area where a guy (free of charge) will put the bags into your trunk. This way you don;t have to carry them out of the store or push the full cart through the lot. This just tops off a great shopping experience! more
