We came to Portland to visit our son. We booked a room for 5 nights at UP. We flew into Portland very late, took a cab from the airport ($45 with tip) and were greeted by a friendly staff member when we arrived at the hotel. We had a king size with balcony looking over the outdoor pool and courtyard. Our room was very clean and appeared to have been recently updated. We would have appreciated a small fridge to keep drinks and take home leftovers. The onsite restaurant had a decent breakfast menu ($20 for two) and the staff was great. The location makes it very accessible to the street car and bus (which is free for a huge part of downtown). We came and went at all hours and noticed that the front desk was always staffed and we were always greeted personally. I would recommend leaving the "do not disturb" tag on the door until you are ready to have your room cleaned-the cleaning staff were up and working rather early. We used the streetcar and Max line to get back to the airport-which involved a one block walk and fare of $2.05 each for the Max line as it goes out of the free fare zone-took about and hour. We would definitely stay here again.
