The Avon Theater on Thayer Street has been home to scores of independent and short-run films for years. I finally got to experience this theater first-hand recently, and I fell in love with it. The theater itself is gorgeous, with comfortable and roomy seating, and an elegant ambience that makes you feel you're in an upscale live viewing. The ticket prices aren't too high, and the concession prices are pretty in line with large chains. My only major complaint is the sometimes-confusing movie schedule, which can change in a day. With only one theater, owners are forced to show different movies in a single day, but sometimes the choices are less-than-prime and the time changes can be confusing (after midnight, etc.). Other than this minor qualm, this theater is really quality.
