Review content:
I have never written a review before, but I felt my experience at Crave, and my hope that this restaurant stays around for a while, warranted one.
First, I have never seen Top Chef, so I didn't know who Dave Martin was until I was looking for a restaurant to go to the other night. Upon learning his background, I assumed that this was probably his first restaurant and given he is in the public eye, would take every means necessary to make sure the food was excellent.
Second, let?s start with the bad (which I think the other reviews captured). Other than Dave helping us at the bar (great wine selection) and stopping by every table, the service was average. The decor is nothing special - lose the christmas lights, change the walls and most importantly do something about the floor, that's what bothered me the most and cheapened the room - personally I would put in some hardwood flooring (real or fake), it would give the place more of that "bistro" feel. But again, I was here for the food. The location didn't bother me, everything in NYC is a taxi ride away (i.e. deal with it).
Third, let?s talk about the food. It was incredible. I like to keep my expectations low going into a new restaurant and this is the first time in a while that I was truly blown away. We shared the mac and cheese, scallops, bacon / goat cheese salad and mushroom ravioli special (I wish we had room for the pizza). For entrees we had the sea bass and the pork. For dessert we shared the chocolate cake. The flavors literally exploded in your mouth. We're a picky crew when it comes to our food and everyone was impressed. This is one of the few places I can see myself going back to every few weeks just to try something new. Crave deserves its shot, I highly recommend it. Thank you Dave.
