Review content:
I do have to say that I was surprised as I thought he would increase my rent last year and I would have to move. I planned to search for a rental when my lease was almost up and saw that prices went down and wanted to get in on the bargains out there.
When I was contacted about renewing my lease I thought my rent would go up with the yearly rent increase. It didn't and after discussing a new lease, I was able to continue living in my same apartment and gave me a break on the rent. I guess it pays to be a model tenant paying rent on time !
My friend didn't have such a good experience with her landlord though, a different type of person altogether, they actually raised her rent and wouldn't help her so she went looking for a better deal.
I'm happy to see with this economy that my landlord, Ely, although a tough landlord/businessman, was considerate enough to make my rent affordable with this economy and keeping his tenants in place. Sometimes the worst has to happen in order for you to see that under that thick skin, Ely does have a big heart and conscience to do right by his tenants after all. It had to come down to this, with the economy so bad and people losing their jobs, I give kudos to Ely as I'm very happy with my building, my super is fantastic and I can continue to afford living in Manhattan.
