I once went hunting for a needed audio/electronic component for my sound system. I went to the first, large, national electronic component chain store that comes first to everyone's mind. They didn't have it. I went next to the national consumer electronics chain store down the street, but they didn't have it. Both times, I was referred to Pacific Electronics, a small shop in downtown. There, I found the part I needed!
I've had more, similar component-hunting experiences ever since, but now I know better. Pacific Electronics has a larger selection. Their prices are significantly cheaper than the national chains, and the quality is comparable. If they don't carry it, they will order it for you.
So if you need a part for your home audio, theater, lighting system, etc., consider Pacific Electronics before you check the other shops.
