Review content:
As always when new restaurants open, I wait a few weeks after the opening for the cooks to settle in; invariably for me, first week food at a new place ruins it for me. And so that's what I did with Sumo Sabi when it opened on Pensacola Street.
If one is going in for a traditional sushi experience, this is NOT the place for it. It's a line press of sushi: a machine mashes out the rice and seaweed, then a chirpy blonde girl adds the necessary ingredients from containers behind the counter. Yes, it's a lot like Subway or McDonalds for sushi.
Each "roll" is then cut into eight small pieces and is served up for a minimum of $5.75 each. Unless some other sushi places, they don't even pretend to make enough to be a full meal. And let's not even mention the salad dressings for sushi sauces.
It's decent food, but if you're planning on a meal, I'd recommend Jasmine Cafe instead.
