The Georgette Klinger spa partnered with Johns Hopkins and is now more of a "medi-spa." It's located in the Collection at Chevy Chase (on the parking lot side--you can't see it from Wisconsin Ave.) I scheduled one of their package deals with a gift certificate I received for my birthday. The "Beautiful Beginnings" package, $135, included an introductory facial and manicure. I am unsure what the real difference is between the intro facial and one of their advanced facials, beyond the price--an advanced facial will put you back $165!
Before my facial I received a skin diagnostic, wherein the elasticity, hydration and sun damage of my skin was determined. This included sticking my face in a small pod-like contraption that took my picture and frighteningly showed all my sun damage and enlarged pores. (If for some reason you don't have this image burned into your memory, the staff thoughtfully prints one out for you to take home.) This diagnostic is then used to tailor your facial to what you need.
On a recommendation from DailyCandy, the aesthetician I tried was Pegg Hoffman--I thought she was great. The spa waiting area is quite small, and there are about 3 treatment rooms directly off of the waiting room. Luckily Pegg's treatroom room is down the hall and well away from the flow of traffic and chattiness of the waiting room. (On a side note, I was pretty disappointed with the waiting room refreshments--bottled KAA water and little packets of Crystal Light.) The treatment room looked hospital-esque with it's all white decor, but the bed was super comfortable and once the lights were out it didn't matter. As part of the facial, you get a hand and foot massage too.
The best thing about a medi-spa is that you can get pharmaceutical-grade products. I am in love with the Obagi-C products that Pegg recommended to me (and yes, as mentioned in the other review, there is still a heavy sales pitch on all levels). Next time around I will skip the manicure--nothing fancy and the area is right off the busy hair salon floor so it's not relaxing in the least. I did get a complimentary make-up session, which was pretty nice. They use Nars products.
If you visit KAA, make sure you bring cash for gratuities. I paid for my services on my card, but then had to walk about 3 blocks down Wisconsin and cross the street to get to an ATM.
