When it was announced that Julius? Castle was reopening, I decided to give it a try. I?ve lived in North Beach for many years, and have seen restaurants come and go. The first clue, upon arriving for Sunday brunch at 11 AM, was only one waiter taking care of several tables of guests in two rooms. Our order was taken, however, without too long a wait. A fruit cup was promptly brought out, mine topped with a moldy raspberry. I had ordered an Irish coffee, and when it finally arrived, it did not have the required topping of whipped cream. I pointed this out to the waiter, who said they would make some. Ten minutes went by before he came with a small bowl of whipped cream. I had not touched the drink, and it was of course cold, which meant returning it for a hot one. When the second one was brought out, the cream had already sunk to the bottom. I had asked the waiter if the eggs in the Benedict could be prepared well done, not runny, and he assured me that was OK. When it did arrive, the eggs were runny, which meant sending it back to the kitchen. Meanwhile, my brunch companion had nearly finished his crab melt sandwich, which consisted of a slice of sour dough with crab meat spread on, topped by a slice of melted cheese. No seasoning, no sauce, nothing to bind the crab together. How original was that? I should add that a second wait person did arrive while we were there, and none too soon, as the room was filling up. We paid the bill and left, to wait for another reincarnation of Julius? Castle. The views have not changed?.still great!
Pros: Great Views
Cons: ill-prepared food
