Kathy and Gerry were great when I came in to discuss ordering a soapstone countertop for my kitchen reno. Gave me a general price of $95/sq ft; sent me to the stone yard to pick my material; and accepted my $1000 check as a deposit to hold the stone for me. Then I got the estimate - $3200 for a 20 sq ft countertop. And they forgot to include the backsplash. This was much higher than I expected based on the original $95/sq ft price. I decided I had to cancel the job. No problem they said. We'll refund the deposit. It's 30 days later and no check in sight. My own fault for not using a credit card, but nevertheless. The run around and the excuses are never ending. Visiting in person gets me nowhere. Calling gets me nowhere. Much as I try to patronize local stores over big box or national chains, it's an experience like this that is disillusioning. Small claims, here I come.
