Last week, Oklahoma got hit by an ice storm. I was stuck at work for three days and when I did brave the icy roads to drive home, the normally 45 minute drive took three and one half hours. Much to my dismay, I had no electricity at my house. No electricity meant no heat. After a few hours, we decided that it was too cold to stay in the house. We decided to try to find a motel to spend the night. We knew we wouldn't find a place in the nearest town - the whole town had no electricity. We started calling motels in the next closest town. Most motels were already full of stranded motorists and others in the same situation as we were. We finally found the Claremore Days- Inn. They had a room open, and when we explained our predicament, they said they would hold it for us. I didn't expect much. The room rate was $55 for the three of us. I was pleasantly surprised. The clerk was friendly and got us checked in quickly. The room wasn't real big, but it was clean and warm. They even had a coffee pot, microwave and refrigerator. The Days-Inn offered a breakfast including waffles, cereal, muffins, fruit and coffee. I was grateful to be in out of the ice and darkness of home. This Days-Inn was literally a beacon in the dark.
