Elk Mountain is located in Union Dale, PA and dates back to 1959, when Elk became one of Pennsylvania's first commercial ski areas. There are 27 trails, snow making capabilities, and ski school programs. They offer baby sitting on weekends and holidays at an hourly rate, first come basis.
I did not see any snowboarders at Elk Mountain or Tubing so I presume this limits the amount of visitors. Both of these sports are very popular now and perhaps they will offer both of these sports in the future. Elk Mountain is for the serious skier though.
After skiing, be sure to check out the Winter Garden Restaurant for a bite to eat. The food is reasonably priced and very good.
Elk Mountain Ski Resort is located north of Scranton, Pennsylvania, easily accessible from Interstate 81, off Exit 206.
