http://www.lrb.usace.army.mil/WhoWeAre/MMD/MMD.html This is a beautiful, teaching, hike. Every year my family (extended, aunts, uncles, cousins) get together and tour the Mt. Morris Dam. We started this one year for a reunion. We all live in the area but none of us kids had been. The dam is the largest "Dry concrete Dam" west of the Mississippi river. It is located deep in the gorge of the Genessee River near Letchworth State Park. The dam was built to protect farmlands, residential, and businesses in the lower Genessee River Valley (Rochester included). There are guided tours each day, 2 times a day on the weekends at 11 am & 3 pm-- Limit of 25 people.. so call ahead if you have a big group. The guided tour takes you outside where the scenery is beautiful in the Fall-- letchworth park trees with a sea of color. The guided tour takes you below in the inside of the dam.. Its cool in here and very neat- Pretty amazing how things work. located at the dam is a visitor center, this has an atrium, museum, theater (which shows short videos that relate to dam and what it does), picnic areas, bike trails, hiking trails, and a great are to watch for wildlife. Its a pretty neat place... If you're in the area visiting Letchworth Park (which you should).. don't forget the Mt. Morris Dam- Great scenery and a bit of a history lesson.
