Businiess name:  Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center

The Walters State Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center has lots of activities in the fall, but its horse shows are tops! The center is much different than most horse arenas. It's climate controlled, it's very clean and there's plenty of room. It is an arena and with the lay-out, every seat in the house is good. I think for many of their shows, organizations simply rent the facility. Regardless, admission prices are always reasonable (sometimes as cheap as $3 or $5) and the prices to show are usually competitive. Many of the shows here offer generous rewards. You can check the calendar at Walters State's Web site, www.ws.edu. Click on Business and Community and then on the link for the Expo Center. You'll see the link for calendar of events. I think charity horse shows are scheduled every weekend in October. There's a few horse shows in November, but the national BMX races is always held over Thanksgiving weekend. It's great as a spectator and it's held inside the arena. Concessions are sold at most events. You don't usually have to worry about getting a ticket, but if you're traveling a good distance you might want to call ahead. You'll definitely want to call ahead if you're staying overnight - not just for tickets but also for lodging as near-by hotels are somewhat limited and book up quickly.
